Gage rolls over, his mind straying in and out of unconsciousness as the light of day shines in through his window. Since his room was on the second floor he didn't get the luxury of having the buildings across the street block the sunlight for another thirty minuets before it hits his room and whites it out. At first he hated it, the morning light forcing him up and at it before he wanted but soon he grew to like it, the sun acting like a more reliable alarm clock than anything that he could buy from a store. Slowly sitting up in bed he wipes a bit of dried saliva from his lip, his dream being quickly wiped from memory as soon as he tries to remember it.
Getting out of bed Gage slips into his extra thick house slippers, the cold wooden floors no longer bothering him as it did when he first moved in. Back when he first got the lot he would spend at least an extra thirty minuets in bed, avoiding the cold floor and the chill that it would give his bare feet. After waiting far too long he eventually went out and got himself a pair of house slippers, the cozy cotton feet keeping his feet toasty. Heading to the bathroom Gage turns on the hot water letting the cold water out of the lines and getting the entire bathroom hot enough to steam out the window.
A beep at his laptop catches his attention, a notification that he has received a new email being he only thing on his laptop that makes noise. Looking back at the laptop he considers for just a moment that he should answer back but he likes the idea of a shower more. Hopping into the scalding water Gage cleans up, the heat of the water being enough for him to wake all the way up, and hops out toweling off. Walking over to his desk he checks the emails from the night before while he slips into a pair of shorts.
Tatsu had been in the world of the living for a long time, he studied them a bit, the new way of living was different to him, all he remember was soul society, maybe that was for the best. He had been stationed there to keep an eye on the holes and act as a field medic, he had been doing a fine job by his standards, even though these holes were making his job very hard. During his work Tatsu had met quite a few number of humans, and he made a point to himself to keep a tab on him, sometimes when hollow activity happens they tend to leave a mark for other hollows to smell.
It was a fine day, very sunny, few clouds in the sky, few cars in the streets, all in all it was very calm, even with hollow activities, and so Tatsu allowed himself to get a shut eye, being a medic was very hard on the mental state of one's person, considering that you don't sleep if someone is injured, needless to say with everything going on currently Tatsu was very tired, he's had very little sleep ever since he met Gage.
By pure coincidence, Tatsu had decided to remain in the same district as Gage for this night, maybe it was in a hunch, maybe it was to learn more about him. The fact was, that being a member of the 4th division was a thankless job and that maybe having a potential drinking buddy might be a good activity to do once in a while. He wasn't exactly hiding, or compressing his reiatsu, he was actually letting it out, in case of a hollow attack he wanted to be the first one to know.
Gage finishes getting dressed before he flops down on his desk chair, propping his head up on one hand and opening his email one after the other until he finds one that catches his eye. A message that comes from his direct employer has reached him, Polarity being a 'for hire' hollow extermination group. They have just received word from Iceland that some odd activity in one of its more popular tourist attractions has lead to the vanishing of several humans. Now that the numbers have reached five tourists have slowed down with their visits, fearing for their own lives now that the new has reached the papers. Gage has just received an offer for Holy shit, that is a lot of money! a lump sum of $22,000 roughly with the proof that there are no hollow on site.
Grinning like a mad man Gage stands up, the back of his knees kicking his rolling chair away to skid to a stop. By the time that the chair has come to a complete stop the whole email was printing with him throwing piles of clothing out of his dresser onto his bed. Grabbing his suit case and throwing it onto the bed Gage yanks all the cables out of his computer, sliding it into his laptop case. Shoving his clothes into the suitcase and zipping it up he starts throwing on a set of clothes that would be mildly comfortable for a plane ride, loose jeans and a soft tee. Grabbing his printed plane ticket Gage looks it over, the flight being in two hours he throws the strap to his laptop over his shoulder and slips his wallet into his pocket.
The shinigami had an eye on the human ever since that fight the other day, and curiosity had gotten the better of him, kinda like when you're waiting on someone, but you know where they are, you tend to look even if you don't want to. He couldn't help himself from noticing that gage was getting his things ready in a hurry, almost like he was running out of town. And so, the shinigami 'Stepped' in front of gage's front door and knocked. A simple Knock knock knock, nothing over the top or anything.
Tatsu was dressed up properly, his shinigami garb was clean, his sword sheathed, his hair combed properly, his glance was calm, he even had half a smile. Not something out of the ordinary, but completely different from that time when they fought together against a hollow in front of the arcade. ''Gage? May I come in? Its Tatsu'' Tatsu said, in all honesty he was a bit worried by his friends activity, he was surely hoping he wasn't leaving town in a hurry, and if so, why? ''I was wondering what you were up to..kinda sounds weird right?'' He chuckled, he was absolutely bad at this kind of things, he wasn't subtle for two cents, of course he had been keeping an eye on his friend, but he didn't want him to go thinking he was stalking him or anything, of course he hadn't been stalking him, but merely keeping tabs, on everyone he saw that day, he knew there were reports that some injured turned into hollows and he wanted to make sure he had successfully defended his allies from that day.
Gage stands there, pats his back pocket and feels his wallet, holds up his plane ticket confirming that he is holding it before it sets in. "Passport. Duh," walking over to his desk Gage rifles through it and finds his little blue American Passport, stamps filling it so much so that he is almost having to put in for a new one, the little book only having six blank pages left. Putting it in the front pocket of his computer bag he buckles it in with his ticket so that there would be next to no chance that he could miss place either of them. He could always take to company plane but 'Polarity' tends to charge your for the fuel to go anywhere. On a flight that far for a direct route and landing at the nearest air field the paperwork says that they will charge $600, something that most Hunters would be willing to pay but Gage had a bit of a penny pinching issue where he would travel as cheap as possible.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK The knock snaps Gage out of his little dollar counting in his head. Looking at his door he see's it closed, as it always is. Walking over and opening it up he hears a voice from behind him. Turning about he spots Tatsu, a Shinigami that he had met the day before in a skiff with some hollow hole that opened in front of the town Arcade. Walking over and opening his double windows Gage waves him in,"No of course you can come in Tatsu." Stepping aside Gage waves his companion in. Its true that they did not really know each other that well but a life or death situation will make you bond with someone in ways that years of friendship will never do.
It was kinda nice that someone in Karakura town was taking him leaving seriously. "No, its nothing too serious. I got a job out in Iceland that is needing some Spiritual Assistance. They think a Hollow infestation is taking over a big tourist attraction and the region has put down a lot of money to get the problem taken care of. My company was called and I am getting sent out. Why? Do you want to come?" Gage looks up from his bag once more as he makes sure that his things wont fall out and scatter. He wouldn't mind the company and having reliable backup is always something that you can appreciate.
Tatsu came in as invited, naturally he took a little look around as he entered a new place, it was a force of habit to always know everything around him and every gettaway locations he could use in times of need. ''I hope you to well'' He said entering, obviously worrying a bit about the man, anybody who knew anyone and saw them prepare to leave so fast had to be worried. ''And you are going alone?'' He said at first thinking about the situation, giving it time to sink in. ''Let me get this straight first, you work for a company that sends you..and hopefully others, to deal with our work, most probably because these holes are giving us hell and back?'' Tatsu tried to look for somewhere to sit down. ''Well, I don't want to force myself into your affairs, but I'd double down on going alone, even us two it might be risky...but better, if you would have me, I would gladly come to watch your back''
Standing back up he tried to look for a kitchen or something and as if trying to break the mood, he looked at Gage. ''Do you mind if I help myself? I'm a tad thirsty'' Not expected Gage to say no he started making his way towards the kitchen, and if allowed, he'd come back with a glass of water. ''I'm guessing that you want to be there as fast as possible and that is why you prepred to leave in a hurry?'' He'd say after emptying his cup and putting it back in the sink, to be cleaned. He made his way towards the door as if not wanting to keep the man back. ''Do you have any information about the situation that could be useful to us, or do they send you in the dark in those kind of situation?''
Gages room was actually not too decorated, he was a bit of a minimalist but messy at the same time a scattered chaos spread out over his room. He keeps a lot of tools and gadgets on his desk with small parts nearby but there are no posters or clocks hanging on the walls. In all honesty it looks like a office where someone would go to get work done more that looks like a room, the only thing signifying that he sleeps here being the bed in the corner. "Well I would really appreciate the company, I don't like traveling alone. I have done it before and I don't care for it too much. The work itself isn't too dangerous. I have handled jobs alone before, the situation is getting a little bit sticky but nothing too serious, or at least nothing I can't handle. If you are interested in coming I can get us a more direct flight there." He was telling the truth, if his companion was really thinking about joining him that he would be more than willing to put down the extra cash so that they would not have to ride with a plane full of civilians.
"I'm not going to lie a lot of the time they send us in the dark, the most information we get being a visual explanation of what we are looking for. This time though it seems like the hollow has been causing enough of an issue that there is A general summary of the events in the area. There have been six disappearances in the last four weeks. Of those disappearances three of them have been under age girls. All of these it appeared to be happening inside a tourist location. Some kind of haunted castle out in Iceland. Someplace called Witch Wood castle."
Tatsu paid little heed to the mess the man was living in, he was already envious the man had a place of his own and didn't need to live in a barrack accompanied by countless other shinigami. He took a moment to look outside, thinking about the whole situation. ''I'll come, for multiple reasons. There could be a hole nearby, and as we both know, those are -very- dangerous to deal with, specially since the situation is about what? For weeks old? I can sense a pattern here. And second, for personal reasons, I'd really hate to see a friend injured or worse'' He offered an honest smile to the man as it was absolutely true that he didn't want to see him injured. ''Why don't you like travelling alone though? I'm rather curious, I mean I haven't known you for the longest time, but it doesn't seem like you don't enjoy being alone...unless someone shares that bed with you?'' He tried not being too pokey, but he was a curious man, he enjoyed knowing things. ''Are you saying that the situations in jobs are getting worse with time? Or is that something that happened in the recent times... maybe I can find something that matches with recent shinigami activity...not that I'm allowed to share this information...sorry.'' Tatsu took the time to think about the more direct flight, it might be an advantage for him to come and go faster, before his time in the relief effort in karakura-cho was done, if they knew he was leaving to deal with a hollow in another part of the globe, they might get angry at him. ''Well, if you are willing to spend the extra money on getting there faster, I won't refuse, I'm not absolutely allowed to tag along, but I'm not absolutely forbidden to accept your offer, so I'll come.'' He smiled once again. ''Plus, you wouldn't want people to see you talking to yourself during the whole flight.
''Being sent in the dark isn't the best of situations, but don't you think it's rather dangerous? Wouldn't you want to work for people that know what they are doing with forces that know what they are doing, led by people that know what they have been doing...for atleast a millenia.'' He offered, Tatsu knew there were other substitute shinigami out there. ''I mean, I don't know nothing about pay or anything, but there's a great deal of respect comming, and most important of all, backup.''
Tatsu thought about the situation once again. ''A hollow, bound to an area, that's not something unseen, he may have worked there in the past and quote on quote haunts the place, the weird part is that he only takes little girls, and seems rather light on his meals, perhaps this one knows how to think? We will have to be extra careful, it may be a bait, chances are we've got a smart hollow, who knows how to think and choose its prey.'' Upfront like this, Tatsu may seem like he overthought things, but to him, he tried to understand the situation from the start to the end so he atleast knows what to expect, normally this train of thought is kept to himself, but he shared it to Gage, his partner in this situation to see what he thought about it. ''What do you think?''
Gage finally took a moment to look around the room, it was a chaotic order but it was a mess to anyone's eyes but his own. Walking around he holds the conversation while simulataniously he gathers a few miscolanious things off the ground and off tables that are either trash or some kind of tool, finding a different place to keep it. It hardly counted as cleaning really, more akin to reorganizing the mess really. "Well I appreciate the company," Gage keeps walking about nodding when Kyrel asks if the situation was four weeks old. "Aren't you a nosy one?" Gage's voice held a hint of sarcasm showing that he does not mind it that he was being grilled for information.
"No there is no one else. I keep this bed alone, you should know as well as me that having even an ounce of spiritual pressure makes you stick out like a sore thumb in a city where normal people walk around all the time. That makes the hollows come running every chance that they get. I mean," Gage cuts himself off before he denounces women," there was one girl, she was amazing. Fast, Smart, dangerous. Oh man was she dangerous. But she just vanished one day, I havn't been able to get a hold of her for months now. I have looked all over the place but she just seems to have vanished." She was it, Gage knew it. There would be hundreds of other women in this down but none could ever even touch her. Then Kyrel asks about the work, something he is still grasping, every mission being like a new one.
"No the work isn't becoming more dangerous. Its just that...I don't know. I have seen some good hunters get out of the game because they no longer want to put up with the hassle of worrying about some Solo hunter getting them killed. Show boating is basically a long term execution," Gage waves off Kyrels apology about not being able to share information about Soul Society investigations,"Oh don't worry. I understand what it means to have commitments to a group that requires loyalty and a moral compass.
Gladly accepting Kyrels offer to join Gage shakes on it. "You know what? I think I had already decided on how I was going to talk to you in front of every one too. I was going to pretend to be on the phone, like you were some guy back home or something. It would have been hilarious, not sure where you would have sat though." Gage listens to Kyrels comments on Polarity and their operations. "Well its not like they choose to keep us in the dark but the option of being informed does sound appealing. Honestly, if it weren't for the travel and the pay I would be doing something else, probably closer to home. I can't say that I dislike the feeling of knowing that I am helping others though. Backup does sound like a blessing though." Typing up a message he gets the private plane ready for flight, letting them know that he will be going with a plus one.
"I think your right for the most part. I can look into it for some more details on the flight but that's basically how this works. Until we get there and can look around though we are just assuming. For all we know it could be some out of his mind mad man that feels like he needs to get his hands on some blood."
Tatsu leaned against the wall as Gage took a moment to look around his mess, of course Tatsu made no comment of it, that would be beyond rude! He kept a mental note of the tools he took and tried to understand what their use could be. Tatsu laughed a bit at being nosy. ''I'm curious, I have to admit it'' He lifted a hand to his hair and scratched the scalp of his head in embarrassment, he picked onto his sarcasm though, so he knew he hadn't stepped out of bounds or offended the man, which was a good outcome. ''Yeah, even in soul society you can stand out for the spiritual pressure you have, luckily, I'm just an average joe'' He chuckled a bit at that comment. ''Have you lived through a lot of hollow attacks in the past? Considering it seems to be your job, you live a very dangerous life!'' He kept his smile up as he kept teasing the man with his petty jokes. He crossed his arms at the comment concerning the woman.
''What was her name? If she's as dangerous as you say, she's surely fine right?'' He kept his smile up. It was in his personality to always worry for people, even though he didn't share it to anyone, but he strongly believed that the strong survive, and that they in turn, must help others reach their level. ''Sounds to me you admire her. Perhaps after this job you should double down and look for her, seriously.. with nothing else in mind.'' Tatsu was rather jealous, to chase after a woman you admire so much is a noble deed, he was also jealous because he himself fought for the survival he cared about, but no one was that important to him.
Tatsu nodded and smiled at the wits of this man, he liked how he thought ahead of things and voiced them when they were important to be voiced. ''That's a very good idea, let's just hope there isn't another spiritually aware being over there. As for the plane...Do you think I could've stood quote on quote ON the plane'' He laughed a little at the idea of being sitting on the plane.
The shinigami nodded at the answer about the man's company, it was shady work, but then again the world o the living seemed to be that way, Tatsu didn't remember anything from when he was alive, but he surely hoped people were more honest than that. ''The pay? Is it really that much? I mean, I don't think Soul society pays that much, enough to get me the sake I enjoy so much'' He 'Hmm'd a little at the thought of sake right now. ''I think you could enjoy seeing the soul society once in your life, the city itself I hear is quite marvelous to look at for someone who hasn't been there before, and the vast expanses that encompasses it are bright and amazing to look at even for me. '' Tatsu left a bit for the good memories of himself satisfying his wanderlust inside the soul society on his days off.
''You're right, the thought of helping other people is somewhat what drives me forward, I want to stop people from getting hurt, and that's why I learned the healing arts, I also want to prevent people from getting hurt, which I why I learned how to fight, even then it feel's like I am lacking in comparison to others, luckily, there is alot more room for improvement.'' Tatsu was still young and very hopeful for a shinigami, he had big dreams for the future, and he hoped he could be strong enough to pursue them until he either reaches them or dies trying.
Nodded at the confirmation of thought that Gage believed the same thing as him. ''We'll have to be careful, specially with both of our spiritual pressure, we could be sticking a stick inside a bee's nest, we can handle mad man also right? They can only be that strong'' He laughed a little trying to lighten the mood. ''Although I don't think I'm allowed to do that...I'm not sure, so if it happens...I'll leave it out of my report'' He chuckled a little scratching his scalp once again. ''Wouldn't want to end up in trouble for our little escapade!''
"Average Joe, that's insane. Your already so much stronger than me and I have yet to find normal humans that are even close to me. If your the common person in Soul Society maybe it would do me some good to go and work for them instead. I don't think that I would be willing to die for the job though. I tend to care for living, the option of dying just for a position being a bit extreme to me." It was a little more than extreme. It was almost literally what you would imagine 'dying for your work' means. If the Soul Society was really that good then they would have to wait until he passes either of natural causes or when a Hollow finally gets the better of him.
"Nah, Not too many. I am sure that you have had more than me, I have only really started getting involved with hollows like...three years ago I think?" Gage picks up all his things and heads out the door, locking it behind Kyrel and heading down the stairs to his Cab, the airport to far away to take the bus and to close to take his own vehicles. The topic casually turns towards his female friend, the one that he cant seem to find.
"Her name was Ariu and she was...is good looking, definitely someone that I would like to bring home to the parents," more of an expression than anything, his mother having died at birth and his dad passing four years ago from smoking. "Her name was Ariu and I would look harder but its not unusual for people like us to vanish, just up and leave whenever we feel like. I did it when I moved here from the states. She may have done it to get away from something. For all I know it could have been for family."
Gage laughs at the image of Kyrel standing upright on the wing of the plane, the image quickly replaced with the image of Kyrels face trying to get peeled off by the sheer force of the air. "I don't think that would have worked, I know you guys are spirits and all but I haven't seen you guys ignore the energy from the elements. I mean, you can feel the breeze right? Why wouldn't you feel the wind on the wing? Can you let that stuff pass through you?" It was an honest question but one that he had never thought to ask before.
"Well if the pay enough to get by I might take them up on the chance of employment after I lose at being a Full Bringer. If it looks as amazing there as you say though I think I would love a chance to get around the place and give it a once over. If your clothes give me a hint to what it looks like at all I bet its going to be...historical." Traveling has really gotten into the top five favorite things that he does, the chance to go to the world of the dead being to big of an opportunity to pass on. "I wouldn't worry too much, here in the human world humans ignore energy while the hollows that tend to hang out nearby are either so weak that they hide or are so strong that we should want them to get out and leave the normal humans alone."
Sliding into the back of the cab after tossing his bags into the trunk Gage hand the cabbie a few buck and give the driver the address of the airport.
Shrugged at the thought of being stronger. ''I'm really quite weak..I can't do amazing stuff with the earth, nor can I make gauntlets from reiatsu.. I can't make my hair turn blue or make a gun out of nothing. Although! I can go fast and I'm quite good with a blade!'' he says with a laugh that tried to hide his insecurity over a complex that very little humans had, a power complex about not being strong enough. Tatsu looked at the man and arched a brow. ''I don't know much about substitute shinigami, do they really have to die? What if you're dieing? would that be a valid escape?'' He wondered just expanding on the subject. ''I'm sure there's accomodations possible that aren't as extreme as that'' Tatsu never considered the sacrifice the substitute had to go through to do their job, maybe it was something that he should look into, to be aware, to have an opinion on the matter, he wanted to learn.
''Believe it or not, that, yesterday was my first hollow confirmed kill''It was indeed his first assignement outside of seireitei ever in his life, this would be his second. ''Although I've had a long time in the academy'' He'd say as he left outside the building and moved aside so Gage could lock the door. He followed him to the first floor where the cab had been waiting. ''Ariu..I'll keep an eye out, perhaps if I see her in my travels.'' he trailed on offering a smile to the man. ''Or a safe house, I bet we can find her if we worked together, was she spiritually aware?'' He asked casually, trying to learn more.
He took on a pose as if he was withstanding the brunt force of the air on the wings of the plane and laughed out loud. ''This would be more than a breeze, I'd fly off, but I'm sure I could keep up with practice. I'd be a sad man if I couldn't feel the burn of the sake down my throat or the breeze in the morning.'' He gave it some thought and shivered a little about it, that'd be a sad life indeed. ''Don't worry, I'm not a ghost, I'm as alive as you are, I bleed, I drink, I sleep'' He nodded and chuckled.
The shinigami frowned a little. ''You'd be a lucky man if you remembered anything after you lose at being a fullbringer, Sorry to inform you, so don't think you've got two lives, you do have two, but they are very seperated and you won't remember anything in between.''He laughed again at the historical part. ''Yeah, its rather big..and very historical.'' He offered an honest smile until the talk of hollow was brought up. ''You're right, hollow have a primal instinct that I need to understand on a better level.'' Tatsu 'Stepped' inside the cab as the door opened, so that the taxi driver wouldn't notice him stepping inside. ''Do you know how long this flight might take?'' He asked as he might enjoy his first ride in an airplane. ''I also wonder what a castle in that part of the world looks like, iceland...This'll be new for me'' The shinigami said in an almost excited voice, he had a smile on his face and he looked down the road, doing this like an ordinary human for once!
"Ha, well if you're weak I can't imagine what the rest of souls sorry looks like seeing as you're faster and stronger than me. All I can do is say that I've had a good amount of experience in the field playing cat mouse with all of these spirits. I'm not one to brag but I do know a little bit about the blade but certainly not enough to be confident enough to be wielding it during the middle of a fight." Gage himself is had some exposure to training with a blade, one of the things that polarity insists on with all of its hunters is that they are all able to at least maneuver each other's equipment without injuring themselves so that should one person fall his gear can be picked up and put back to use instantly.
" I think I would be willing to become a soul reaper if I were already dying. As long as I am already dying though. If I can survive I would very much rather stay alive, especially if I can become a soul reaper at any point during death," he meant it too, if there was really a chance that he could keep living to a ripe old age of 30 then he would do it, the afterlife can wait for him.
" Well we're about 30 minutes from the airport and we don't have to go through baggage claim so when I go straight to the plane and is going to send us off right away, I imagine the flights going to be about 5 1/2 hours. The good news though is that we get a complementary drinks service and free snacks," turning around the cabbie looks back at him, probably trying to figure out who it was he was holding a conversation with.
Grinning Gage smiles at the cabdriver who awkwardly turns back around to the road. " you never told me that that was your first Hollow. You should've let me know and I would've taken us out to get some drinks or something. Look at me, poppin' cherries left and right." Gage can remember his first hollow kill. It was a monster of a beast, he had gone with three other people out to some remote mine in the eastern part of Russia. It took a day and a half just to find the hollow since it could fly around and all of the hunters were unable to move that quickly. Eventually though they caught it inside it's den and put an end to it there. It's a short little story that gauge chai and put an end to it there. It's a short little story that Gage shares before they get to the airport.
''Heh! You'll see, we'll become stronger than most, I can feel it in myself, I didn't picture myself reaching the top alone, and I can't share the top spot with another shinigami, so you'll have to live old!'' He chuckles a bit as he makes himself comfortable in his seat, after all, a cab was no place for a weapon, specially not a zanpakuto, and so he put it on his knee's, a plain old, black scabbard zanpakuto, even the handle seemed plain, probably as plain as they came. ''Hey, I could show you the ropes, fighting with a blade I mean, I'm pretty good at it, I bet I can help'' He smiled, the thought of having a friend was pleasing to his ears, so why not trade steel too. He nodded confident now more than ever about the situation, after all, WHAT COULD GO WRONG!
''Here's a promise, as a healer I swear by all I'm worth, that I'll keep you up and kicking by any mean's necessary, but if I happen to be a liar, I will make you a shinigami, or atleast not allow you to be in pain....but being honest...even if you became a stump man, I could heal that...'' he chuckled a little, as discomforting as it was, it was true. True that Tatsu would go to any length to see his friend die of old age before seeing him die, and the healing part too, he was a much more gifted healer than he was a fighter.
''Hm, so we'll be there in more or less six hours, and in between we have snacks and drink service? I'm even more in, hell I can always enjoy a drink in such a fun time.'' He smiled, it was obvious he enjoyed drinking alcohol, maybe a bit too much, but then again who was to blame for his bad habits other than himself. Tatsu couldn't help himself but chuckle at the sight of the cab man not understanding one thing of the situation. ''I'm guessing right now you're playing the insane as a brick card?'' He laughs a bit once again at the mere imagination that this cab driver could be having at this moment. ''It's insane right...the mere fact that he can't see me, right now you're the one sounding insane to him, but look how much more open your world is...'' Tatsu trailed on at the mere thought of what -he himself- could be missing, what could be invisible around him.
''Hah, it wouldn't of been humble, saying it was my first as the first thing after a battle, after all I did try to lead a bit, not my forte... yet.'' He grins a bit as he leaves his train of thought at that, letting the man wonder about what his ambitions was. ''We've plenty of time on the plane to drink right? We can have a toast or something and enjoy life before we go risk it.'' He smiles again, he was all smiles this day, he guessed that it was due to being with a friend or something, he didn't have many, the fourth division wasn't regarded highly. ''I'll always remember the fight we had together the other day, it was my first tag team battle ever'' He trailed on at the thought that he was about to have another. ''I mean, that wave of energy you use, that's not something I can do, not yet atleast, if you knew what the captains could do, you'd be surprised..'' He remembered merely being too close to the captains office had felt like, its not a feeling he enjoyed too much, but one day, he'd surpass them..or atleast equalize them.
Laughing out loud Gage slaps his leg a little bit," Well I feel like thirty is as much as I have in me so you and I might be working together sooner than you think." Checking his email he makes sure that all of his money was refunded for the flight he had just booked. "I like that, it sounds like it could be something to pass the time with on the flight. They don't have a whole lot of headroom but they definitely have enough room for the basics. I know that also reapers have a names for their swords, what is yours called?"
"Stumpman? Do you mean that you can heal amputations? I have never lost or been in danger of losing a limb but if you can fix that maybe I will be a bit more reckless and see if you are worth your salt." Yes well he may be right. The human world has so many wonders that have not been discovered. They are everywhere all around and all you have to do to find them is really just open your eyes. Truly he loves living here, there is something new to do every day and always someone to help. Being blessed with so much strength he could only feel like he would be wasting it if you did not actively use it to help everyone else.
Truly he loves living here, there is something new to do every day and always someone to help. Being blessed with so much strength he could only feel like he would be wasting it if you did not actively use it to help everyone else. Only two weeks ago he had saved a woman from A falling sign. Following the woman home he found out that she had a daughter that was two years old. If he had not helped at the mother had passed away because of the sign he would have to live with the fact that he left a two-year-old child motherless. How could anyone in the world live with that kind of knowledge?
"You know what? He is just a cabdriver. I don't even think I care." Looking back at the cabdriver Gage starts making a really weird face with one half of it super tense and the other one looking like he is trying to frown. " well it seems like a little skirmish has struck a chord with you. I'm glad you came over to check on me, company is always nice to have when traveling. It really does mean a lot to me, I spent a lot of hours flying and it can get quite lonely. I'm a little bit of a social butterfly. I don't need conversation more than most people but I don't seem to talk as much either, I guess it's really just the company that I like so much."
By this point they are pulling up to the airport, the taxi rolls up to a side gate where to arm guards open a rolling fence. Looking into the driver side rear window they spot gauge and wave the taxi driver in so that they can pull all the way up to the hangar doors. Climbing out Gage grabs his bags out of the trunk and tosses his computer bag to put over his shoulder. It was not a huge plane, it was a corporate jet that appeared to be able to fly very fast but could only hold 15 or so people along with the pilots. Standing just outside the door of the plane are two more guards dressed in black. Walking straight up to the entrance and up the stairs Gage throws his stuff into the front two seats and move to the middle of the plane and sits down. He was wrong, this plan was much too small to be doing any kind of sort play or training. The best he would be able to manage would be to talk over the theory but it's very hard to learn from just talking.
" I wonder why they gave me the small jet," comfy in his seat Gage pats the seat across from him so that they can hold a conversation. Inside the plane the seats lined the walls not facing the front but facing each other.
Chuckled along with Gage. ''Forget it, I'm seeing you till sixty!'' He says teasingly to the man. ''Then I'll think about having you as a partner'' He grinned as if it was such a bad thing yet. Tatsu eyed the man as he checked something, probably on his phone or another device. He was a bit curious as to how it worked properly, since it was his first time in the world of the living it wasn't a concept that he was used to dealing with, technology that is. Except when it came to medical technology, he could perform an open heart surgery on someone without much hesitation. ''Eeeeh'' He hesitated a bit. '' That's kind of what makes me a rookie, I haven't learned the name of my blade, I've tried but it always remains silent..'' He drags on, a bit ashamed by his situation and how things didn't always worked out for him.
''I could show you a neat trick about something else I can do but its really something you have to try, its not fun if I explain it'' He grinned a bit at his mischeviousness. ''But yes, I can heal amputations, but it takes a bit of time, so please don't lose an arm unless you really can't do anything else about it, I'd hate to have to save your life on the first job with such intensive kido'' He laughed a bit, but if he didn't have someone protecting him in a combat situation, he couldn't heal very well. Because it required all of his attention, he couldn't stop someone from attacking him while in the middle of his technique.
Tatsu leaned back into his seat and sigh, somehow this was way better to him than soul society ever was, the thankless jobs over and over again, the disrespect of men to whom he had save their life prior, but still, his loyalty remained strong to the ideology of seireitei, his own squad seemed fine to him, they didn't nag him, he was in fact a pretty good healer, and a good swordsman. Knowing that he volonteered for quite a few mission, and always had been refused until recently.
''Should we make him freak out a bit?'' He chuckled a little. ''Make sure your hands are visible'' He snicked a little as he leaned forward to lightly flick the man's earlobe. Just to see his reaction, he'd prepare himself to do it on the other side of the drivers head and he couldn't help himself from laughing. After that the shinigami listened to the man and nodded. ''Hey, if you ever need my help, I might be willing to break a few rules to help you out, but not too many!'' He chuckled a little. ''I bet we'll make a great team'' He nodded to Gage in agreement.
Leaving the cab Tatsu saw for the first time an airport, so he opened his mouth ajar and stood in awe. ''Wouah, its impressive isn't it?'' His impression didn't stop before he saw the plane. ''Well color me impressed, I hope this never hits me mid battle.'' He chuckled a bit as he looked at the guards, wondering if they could see him. ''Yeah, I don't think we'll fight properly in a place like this'' he chuckled a bit wondering what would happen and how this thing flew. ''Perhaps we should strategize on strategy and how to fight together better?''
So, you say that you can speak with your swords to? I'm not going to lie, it sounds a lot like you guys can use soul communication like I do. I mean honestly, that is all that I do whenever I control whatever is around me. I am simply using my energy as a form of communication and pulling on the object with that energy I can get it to do what I want. It's not through force, it's more through a sense of understanding and request." Gage has never really had to explain his abilities to anyone before unless it was directly tied to his full bring. It had never occurred to him until now how difficult it really was explained his ability to draw on the souls of inanimate objects.
Still now every few minutes it would stop and laugh at the antics that they had played on the cabdriver. It was interesting to see that a spirit was able to interact with physical objects, even those of a living person be able to see or feel his soul flicking them in the ear. Good has been a part of a few hunting groups perform, a ragtag team of people with no interests in common except for their final goal of killing an evil spirit. To honestly say that he was part of a team, team that had more interest in each other than 'If he dies this will be harder on me.' It was an odd feeling, he had not felt this type of camaraderie before and it was nice to say that he liked it.
" honestly any time that we spend making plans right now could be a huge waste. We have no actual information on what this thing is, or if it even is a thing. For all we know it could be a madman so I think that our time would be better spent resting and maybe doing some research. We don't know anything about the place where we're going yet so we could look into that and if you don't mind I think I could see about at least getting you in communication with your Zanpakto." In all honesty Gage had never done this with such an advanced spiritual weapon but it may work now. On several occasions while he's been by himself he has been able to 'communicate' with items that have existed for a decent amount of time.
There was even one point where he was able to look into the past of an old rusty knife that he had found in the dirt and saw its original owner 70 years ago drop it out of his waistband. From there he was able to see tons of years worth of weather and wind pouring over the blade, rusting and away, and eventually the dirt covered it up making it entire world black. Spending About three hours on it Gage was able to clean it up, rebuild the blade, give it a new handle and wrap then polish it up for a final touch. After that he could actually feel the blade be more satisfied with its new appearance. Now the boy now the blade is in a display box in his house hung up on the wall overlooking his living room. It has been through so much, that deserves it now the blade is in a display box in his house hung up on the wall overlooking his living room. It has been through so much, that deserves a bit of a break.
''The most talented of us can, on different level talk and be helped by our blade. See me as a grunt of some type, I'm almost brand new out of the academy, so talking to my blade is a farfetched idea right now, some say you require intense battle to awaken it, others say its meditation..I'm led to believe everyone's step by step process is different'' He shrugged a little finding himself a seat to sit in the plane, where he put his blade down so it wouldn't be in the way. ''Soul Communication? Is that what you used the other day? I have to admit I'm curious about knowing more about it.
Without further ado, as if reading his mind, Gage proceeded to explain the properties of his abilities and Tatsu was impressed. ''So the way that I understand it, almost everything has a spirit that you can reach out to and speak to, in a sort of way...'' He raised his hand to his chin and thought about what strengths and weaknesses such things had. ''Meaning most of your abilities are somewhat at range?'' He inquired, still wondering about the possibilities the man had to his potential. ''Ever thought about digging up rare stone?'' He shrugged, maybe it was something he hadn't thought about!
Tatsu also enjoyed the feeling of having someone like Gage around, it felt accomplishing to be around he fought with the day prior. ''Well on my end, I'm a talented swordsman, and healer, I also do pretty well with Hakuda, but I can still pick up some tricks here and there.'' He nodded, bracing his fists in front of him, boxing air. ''Yeah...'' he trailed on a bit thinking about it. ''Might as well make ourselves comfortable? I guess this is a perk to the job? Calm before the storm'' He grinned a bit as Gage went on talking. Surprised, the shinigami rose a brow looking at Gage, a bit skeptical, but he trusted the man, he took his zanpakuto and raised it, sheathed towards Gage. ''I'm willing to give it a try, not that I doubt you, but if you can succeed this, I suggest you keep it a massive secret'' He looked at the blond man very seriously, there is no imagining what terrible thing Seireitei could accomplish forcing a man with such an ability to awaken weak shinigami's zanpakuto to create stronger forces.
It was a scary thought that came to Tatsu's mind immediately, he didn't know what to expect to say, or what he was about to meet, if it worked at all, he raised his hopes in the prospect of meeting his zanpakuto, maybe he would even learn its name. What kind of blade would it be, with what kind of abilities, what could it do? WHat would be its strength and weaknesses...and above all what would it represent, such a powerful thing in the hands of a 4th division member, the thought of it impressed Tatsu, he started day dreaming about all the possibilities and a small smile appeared on his face as he extended his arm even further to give the zanpakuto to Gage, even more convinced than he was before.
"So its a little known fact that everything in existence has a soul. Even this," Gage picks up a pen and holds it up, green light sparking into it and holding it midair for a moment," As a pen this little piece of plastic and metal was molded by people to have a purpose, that purpose to write and that is all. However it does have a soul and sometimes that soul has plans of its own. They are not always 'sentient' like you or me but they do all have 'wants' and are able to conform to things that you ask it to do. I am able to use my own 'Soul' and insert it into objects, requesting that they do what I want. We call that 'Pulling' on an object so that it will behave how we want." Gage taps the pen with his finger and the plastic splits apart with small legs extending from the from, middle and back with a pair of tiny wings. Two small scythe like arms extends out the front making this small pen a little plastic preying mantis.
Gage takes the advice, willingly accepting that if this some how works and he can use his Soul Communication on the Zanpakto to communicate then he would have to keep it quiet, the Soul Society being likely to attempt to recruit him into their services or end him in case someone else tries to get a hold of him. Sitting back Gage closes his eyes, on hand on the sheath and the other on the grip of the Zanpakto. Taking a breath Gage does what he always does, using his own soul to draw on the soul of the object he is holding but this time he does it a bit different. There items have been proven to be sentient and he did not want to be too intrusive so rather than draw it out he used much more of himself in the initial push, so much so that he was able to push his consciousness into the blade.
Suddenly he is falling, a canyon wall whooshing past him as he fell, using his hands he tries to use his Soul Communication to slow his fall, regain control of himself but he cant. There is nothing there, he has no Soul to draw on, his body and spirit some where else. Panic is about to set in as he is falling, the appearance of a second canyon wall on the opposite side passing just as fast when he suddenly and with out a jerking motion is forced to a stop. Standing upright he is now stop a rope bridge, the ends suspended on the canyon walls but the distance swaying farther and closer randomly. Gage wants to say that it is from the world shifting but he knows better, it is his own grip on reality, his weak hold making the laws fade in his consciousness. Suddenly Gage feels a hard, armored hand on his shoulder, gripping his shirt. "Do not return without Tatsu." With a shove he is overboard again, falling through the air as he catches a glimpse of a woman standing much farther away watching him fall. Rotating midair Gage is able to catch a peek at his assailant before his consciousness is shoved out of the Zanpakto with force rivaling that of a tackle.
Slamming back into his seat Gage shakes the seat so hard that he strains the bolts, gasping for air and sitting upright. Apparently he was in only but for an instant but that one instant had used up all the oxygen in his body leaving him feeling like he had just run a mile as fast as he can. "I think I saw him, Your Zanpakto. He told me that I cant come back...that I shouldn't come back...without you...He asked for you by name Tatsu...They are there waiting for you." Gage didn't realize the significance of his words, one that he was able to enter the world of a Zanpakto and the other being that there were two of them.

Tatsu took a moment to think about the fact that everything had a soul and meaning, this would change him a bit, force him to respect things a little more even though he had no way to communicate with said beings, simply knowing this would change the man for a very long time to come. He looked in amazement as the pen turned into a plastic mantis with scythe like claws, it was something impressive to see, even for for someone who could sew limbs back together without that much effort. ''So when you say, always sentient, sometimes they are?'' He asks out of curiosity wondering if the golems he used the day prior were smart enough to 'willingly' defeat the hollow.
Tatsu nodded as Gage accepted the advice, he didn't expect soul society to do such a thing with a human, but one was never too careful. The 4th squad member kept a close eye on Gage as he tried to speak with his blade, this was something surprising even tos ee someone try it wasn't something Tatsu ever expected to see in his life. He watched the blond man lay a hand on the blade and blank out for a moment or two. Worried Tatsu leaned forward and put his hand on the man's shoulder. ''Gage?'' He simply said, wondering what had happened, worrying a little. Suddenly, a few seconds after he had put his hands on his shoulder, Gage slammed back into his seat with surprising strength. Tatsu listened to the words of the man, his heart skipping a beat, of course he didn't know what he was saying, and without knowing, its like he told Tatsu that he had won the hardest possible lottery. ''You...went in?'' He asked a bit surprised, starttled a little by the result. ''They? There's more than a single spirit in there?'' The responsibility of having a double zanpakuto was a scary prospect, the two shinigami who had a double zanpakuto had been trained personally by the captain commander of soul society and today they were captains.
The amazement was obvious in Tatsu eyes, but still then, he tried to remain composed, never mind calm, his heart was racing and the smile on his face couldn't be ignored. ''Is that something you can do? Bring me to see the spirits within my sword?'' He asked, trying not to be pushy or forcing towards the man, but then again he wanted Gage to accept so much. ''Its really important to me'' And it really was, to him and to every shinigami, having his own shikai was something worth respect, something that nobody could ignore, a shinigami with his shikai was many folds stronger than a dozen shinigami without. This was the first step onto the path of captaincy that Tatsu was dreaming about.
