| Moriko Koboyashi | MUWAHAHAHA! | Mori, the dark mistress of paperwork || female || non-rogue || 1st 17 || None || 448

APPEARANCE link
PERSONALITY Outwardly the self described "Dark Mistress of Paperwork" is a whirlwind of energy and Saturday morning cartoon supervillain style hamminess, but beneath this lies a cold and calculating intellect. From a young age she came to understand and appreciate the subtle power that little numbers written down in a book had to shape the course of history even in a world of Bankais and world twisting Kido. She made it her hobby to learn how to play these numbers like a musician would pluck the strings of a harp.
Few ever realize the depths of her intellect though. She's no Vizard but she wears a mask of mischief and good humor. She's infamous in the 1st. When she shows up you just know it means that there's some bit of paperwork that you didn't fill out just right that she's more than willing to hang over your head to mess with you, however an important thing to make clear about this is that she only does this out of mischief, not maliciousness. She's frequently willing to accept bribes of her favorite things, human world stuff, to overlook minor mistakes or even help you fix things. Some even come to her to try and use her bureaucratic to their advantage.
Still... Mori always felt like there was something missing. Even when surrounded by her large family she's felt a disconnect. When other kids played house she played the banker who held the mortage to their house. She became a shinigami but only because it's what was expected of her. Truly, she never found herself fully believing in the cause of Soul Society. When she found out that she was adopted and that she was originally from the human world she thought that maybe the answer lay there prompting her interest in it, but so far the emptiness remains.
So far she's only found one thing that partially fills the emptiness she feels inside, a sheer sense of disgust over the plot that her relatives the Shiori and by extension her own family the Koboyashi attempted against her cousin Tiru. It's not that she disagreed with their goals or that she had any particularly strong feelings for her cousin. It was their methods that she found supremely foolish. The sheer risk that they put the families through both physically and socially... It was just fool's luck that the family's standing escaped unscathed and that those responsible should just get away unpunished? That does not sit well with her at all.
HISTORY The daughter of Koboyashi Naozane and his wife Izumi, Moriko was born into a life of wealth and privilege. Though the Koboyashi are a branch family of the Shiori, her father’s ambition and pride meant that he would accept no less than to match the Shiori. Nothing short of the best would satisfy him.
To this end Moriko seemed like a great success. She was a quiet, dutiful child, surprisingly competent and smart. If everyone else saw her as cold or were even afraid of her unchildlike intellect then it was merely a sign of jealousy.
In truth there’s an emptiness that lies in Moriko’s heart. It’s not like the emptiness of a Hollow, but it’s an emptiness all the same. Mori knows about this emptiness. From a young age she was well aware that she didn’t fit in with the other kids, that there was a disconnect which couldn’t be just attributed to her birth to the leader of the Koboyashi.
It would have been easy for her to become a monster. She could have embraced that emptiness and become a cold, soulless machine only doing what she was told. Frankly, she would have become a great weapon for her family.
Ironically it was the same sort of ambition that she learned from her father kept her from that fate. She would be denied nothing. If something was missing from her heart then she would obtain it. It was as simple as that.
To this day she’s never really filled that emptiness. Still, she’s learned to wrap a persona of energy and mischief around herself like a blanket. Though the emptiness remains, she can forget about it for a time.
Mori went to the shinigami academy as a matter of course once she was old enough. There it quickly became clear that she was never destined to be some great warrior. She wasn’t bad per say, but no where near a prodigy when it came to fighting. Even her Zan looked to all appearances to be useless for fighting. Instead it was her mind that shined through.
A wicked sharp intellect, something of a bad habit of getting into trouble looking into things that she shouldn’t, and an instinctive grasp of the sort of supply lines and number works required to keep a massive organization like the Gotei 13 running. Frankly she would have been useful in any of the divisions, but instead she went back home to work for her clan’s business interests.
Already wickedly competent in such matters, the addition of real world experience caused her bureaucratic abilities to soar to new grand heights, forging her into the Dark Mistress of Paperwork that she is today.
“Of course something like that is just par for the course for Koboyashi Naozane’s daughter.”
It vexed her at times how HER accomplishments fell under her father’s shadow. It lead her to start playing her little game. It was nothing overt. She lacked the experience or influence to truly compete with her father, and even if she didn’t, well, he was still her father! So, little rebellions. Passive aggressive little tricks which no one would ever notice. Just Mori herself knowing about it was enough.
These tricks had some other effects too. An investment in a somewhat risky business in living world artifacts sparked a love of anything from the living world that drives her eccentricity, while a few subtle other investments in her own name sneaked into the sides here or there ended up giving her a nice seed of her own money unconnected to the clan.
This arrangement lasted for a couple centuries until the Shiori plot. Her position as the daughter of Naozane let her to know about it. Mori did not exactly disagree with the goal of increasing the Shiori influence, but she wasn’t exactly comfortable with the how they proposed to go about doing it.
Mori’s involvement with the plot itself consisted mostly about keeping quiet about it and using her bureaucratic abilities to keep it quiet in general. Otherwise she just kept her hands off and waited for the whole thing to inevitably blow up.
Which, needless to say, it did. Not only that, but it was only by pure dumb luck that the whole plot didn’t completely ruin their family and that her father got through it untouched. Mori was, in short, completely disgusted with the whole affair and any faith she might have had in her father was shattered. Still, she knew better than to burn bridges, so she did what she always did and wrapped another persona around herself.
She was the good little girl, inspired by her cousin Tiru’s noble sacrifice to leave behind her family works to help work for the good of Soul Society as a whole. She set her business affairs in order and joined the Gotei 13. Historically the Shiori went into the 10th. That she went into the 1st caused some controversy, but the combination of her father’s reputation and the simple fact that her administrative abilities were better suited to the 1st quelled most of the rumors. As for her father himself, well, there was a certain prestige in HIS daughter being in the 1st that must have appealed to him. Personally, for Mori herself the decision was prompted by a combination of wanting to put some space between herself and her family’s old stomping grounds and the first seeming to be the best place for her to quickly amass influence and power.
In the twenty years since she’s been a whirlwind running through the first division, righteously smiting those with the temerity to improperly fill out their paperwork with the full force of mighty BUREAUCRACY!

CUSTOM KIDOU
Name: Tier: Class: Type: Range: Incantation: Description:KIDOU SPECIALISATIONS Eishōhaki (詠唱破棄, "Incantation Abandonment"): is the skill in which a Kidō practitioner skips using a spoken incantation completely, but it drastically weakens the spell. This is applied as a 1-2 tier drop in the spells power depending on ones Kidou mastery, 2 for Beginner up to Advanced, and 1 for Mastered and above. However this also lowers the spells cooldown to match the lowered tier, to a minimum of Tier I.e.g A Tier IV Kidou be cast with Eishohaki as a tier II, its cooldown will also be the same at 0 posts. BATTLE SKILLS Name: Stroke (incomplete) Class: Weapons Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: Melee Description: The first technique in a sword style meant to apply the grace and precision of calligraphy to the sword. All things start from the first stroke of the brush. The user makes a weapons attack that seems light, almost gentle, but which deals surprising damage, even able to mark solid steel or other suitably hard things. At Mori's current level of training she can only use an incomplete form that's tier 3. Despite this it still has a 1 post cooldown. Name: Denouncement Class: Hand to Hand Tier: III Type: Offensive / Defensive Range: Self Description: The first technique in a spiritual martial art first developed by a cabal of astrologer ninjas that embodies the idea of judgement. Only usable by those with spiritual power. The user calls out a target for judgement. Against that target and that target alone their hand to hand attacks deal tier damage and hand to hand based defenses (blocking with your forearm and such) gain tier defense. Both when attacking and when defending phantom letters in every language that has ever existed spell out from the point of impact, proclaiming the user's judgement. The user honestly has to believe that the target deserves to be punished to activate this technique so it's not particularly useful in a friendly sparring match without some mental gymnastics. Has a 7 post duration Name: Drawing the Blade Class: Hand to Hand Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: Self Description: The first technique in a martial art designed to apply the principles of sword fighting to hand to hand fighting. Though a hand to hand tech, since it's based off the principles of sword fighting if the user's weapons mastery is lower than their hand to hand mastery it treats their hand to hand mastery as if it was the same level as their weapons mastery for advantages. The user uses spiritual power to harden their limbs to steel and attack with them. These attacks cut or pierce as if made with a sword since that's basically what they're imitating. It deals tier damage. Duration: 7 posts Name: Class: Tier: Type: Range: Description:Name: Class: Tier: Type: Range: Description:Name: Shunpo (Flash Steps) Class: Stepping Type: Stepping Range: N/A Tier: I Description: A movement technique that allows the user to move extremely quickly over short distances. The focal point that determines the basis of this technique is speed. Therefore what determines the level of skill in a user for Shunpo is best characterized by how fast one can get from A to B in the least amount of steps. ITEMS REIATSU FEATURES ZANPAKUTOU |

SEALED FORM Shi Dafu's sealed form is pretty much completely useless for fighting. It takes the form of a fountain pen. Admittedly the nib of the pin has the classic wave pattern of a katana and the body has the diamond pattern of a katana hilt, but it's still a pen. It never runs out of ink though which is nice. SPIRIT APPEARANCE There's two parts to Shi Dafu's appearance. The first is a tornado of ink and steel hard and razor sharp paper. He can control this tornado, calming it or allowing people to pass through unharmed, but it's very much his body just as much as someone's hair. His main body can be found within the calm in the middle of the storm. From the waist up he's a twelve foot giant in the style of an ancient Chinese scholar while from the waist down he's an equally large 50 foot long serpent, all of which is made by more paper layered over and over itself. SPIRIT PERSONALITY Shi Dafu is a reflection of Moriko. The tornado that surrounds him is the mask of mischief and energy she shows the world while his inner body is closer to her true self. He's cold and calculating. Always looking for a way to turn things to his advantage even if that's just weakening others so that they are less of a threat in the future. Still, he's been known to have a dry sense of humor at times even if the vast majority of the time he's the only one who knows that he even made a joke. Normally his relationship with Mori could be best described as playful in the same vein that a cat might play with a mouse that he's found, but he's incredibly harsh when it comes to failure whether Mori's or another's. Well, that said though, despite his harshness he's pragmatic enough to offer second chances. He's also a huge bibliophile. He hoards any form of knowledge, books, or other literature like a dragon hoards gold. INNER WORLD Perhaps unsurprising Mori's inner world is a Chinese imperial palace stretching from horizon to horizon that's completely made out of paper. Despite it being eternal night enough sourceless light illuminates the place that vision is never a problem. Up above in the ink black night sky stars of calligraphy stars spell out ancient secrets and in the middle Shi Dafu's throne tornado constantly tears the place to pieces before just as easily rebuilding it.
SHIKAI SHIKAI APPEARANCE With a swipe of her zanpakuto's sealed form she creates a blade of ink to fight with. Along with this the pen itself changes, lengthening and widening slightly to serve as a proper hilt but it's still a rather light weapon designed for one handed fighting. ... It becomes an ink lightsaber. SHIKAI ABILITIES Name: Ink Shadow Class: Zan Spirit Tier: II Type: Passive Range: 10m Description: Shi Dafu's ink blade isn't completely solid. As Mori fights the ink shadows it, tracing across space like the stroke of a brush or rushing ahead like modern day splatter art. This ink is still a part of the blade and basically increases the reach of the weapon to 10m, though the ink is limited to 10m and cero speed.
Name: Black Typhoon Class: Zan Spirit Tier: III Type: Defensive / Offensive Range: 5m / 50m Description: With a slash or two of her blade Mori calls up a typhoon of ink to surround her. It surrounds her in a whirling sphere with a radius of 5m around her that provides tier defense. She can choose to cancel this tech early to cause the ink to explode in all directions away from her at half-bala speed out to 50m from her, dealing tier damage to what it hits. Duration 7 posts.
Name: Surge Class: Zan Spirit Tier: II-IV Type: Offensive Range: 100m Description: An extension of Ink Shadow, for an attack it causes the Ink Shadow to extend out to a full 100m. The exact form this takes can vary depending on what sort of attack launches it. For example a thrust might lead to a simple blast of ink while a slash might lead to a flying slash. In either case it deals tier damage and how fast it goes depends on tier.
Name: Receding Tide Class: Zan Spirit Tier: II / IV Type: Passive / Offensive Range: 100m Description: The ultimate tenique of Mori's Shikai. Since its blade and all it's attacks are made of ink, they tend to leave ink splattered all over the place even if it doesn't deal damage. This is the passive effective of this technique. The ink is just normal ink and can be washed off. By activating this technique she calls back all the ink left behind by her previous techniques and attacks, painfully ripping it free from whatever was painted. This affects a 100m 90 degree cone. The ink furthest from Mori is first affected and the effect comes towards her at Cero speed until all the ink is absorbed back into her blade. This deals tier damage to whatever has the ink ripped from it, though Mori is immune to this effect.
