Rasen, As pictured above is a kind faced, open hearted fellow. He doesn't let the big man control him too much which is shown through his ample amount of hair kept in a loose but clean braided pony tail behind his head. His hair is a soft brown that is full and healthy which shows that he does take the time out of his day to make sure that he is keeping up with his appearance. His outfit, neat and tidy shows that he keeps it cleaned every night and that he tailors his own. The collar of his Robes instead of being and open necked like the stereotypical outfit is actually closed necked similar to how a priest looks but the wrest of the outfit is standard save for that he uses a grey rope around his waist to keep Yamakyojin at his side, a large knot on his right hip with his Zanpakto at his left.
PERSONALITY
Rasen in death has not lost his spark of life, searching for the right social environment to spread his wings and flourish. His actions, shaped by emotions that he sometimes lets get the better of him, lead him to find and read in-between the lines to find the true meaning of what is happening or what is to happen. Unlike socially withdrawn people who see the world as a two-d puzzle he sees it more as a three dimensional prism that is made up of all the different lives of everyone around him. Even though so much of his life is dependent on the lives of others he finds that he is still able to function rather well when he is alone, the bursts of stability and solitude making his days more predictable leaving him free to play or experiment.
His high strung energy and devotion to getting the right work done has however placed upon him a rather mundane routine set of tasks as a member of the Gotie 13 that he finds to be 'drowning' him in its repetition. When ever he is set upon his daily work he finds himself searching for free time or even a place to get away where he can let his mind wander or practice some other tasks.
Rasen is curious, wandering away from work on more than one occasion to look into something that he has seen or heard. He is observant, believing that no action be it in conversation or in battle is for no reason. Everything has a point or meaning and it is important to notice all these things. He is an excellent communicator, having strong people skills and being able to get his point across without stepping on too many toes in the process. On the other side of that coin though he is a bit of an under performing planer, his actions being more fluid and spur of the moment than planned or rehearsed. On top of this he has a bit of a short attention span, his attention drifting away should a conversation be stagnating or drawing on too long. The top of his list of issues though is his independence. He absolutely hats being micro managed, his life drawing on his need to be free and un restrained. When the heavy hand of law sets in on him he finds that he would rather sit under a tree and be useless than take orders that control his life.
HISTORY
Rasen's history is a bit of a quite one. Little is known of it to many and even less is know about his past to himself. As a child he was born into a farming family, growing foods and gathering what resources that they could to etch on by but it was never enough. One day his father, normaly a good man except for when his drinks, a bit of a demon coming out that is as insane as it is aggressive. One day when Rasen was only three years old his father, after drinking far too much wine, set upon him and his mother yelling and screaming about the dishonor of a wife that was not more beautiful and a son that was only going to become a farmer. A twist of fate would have it that while throttling his mother he slipped and hit the back of his head on a rather sturdy vase severing his spine instantly.
Rasen did not know what to make of it, his mother hurt and crying over the body of this limp man while he himself was standing by and watching. Eventually a week passed before she took her own life, hanging herself in their locked home with Rasen sitting one the front steps outside. Orphaned and alone he was out on the middle of the farm lands, the nearest home miles away. After the following morning and a great deal of childish crying he found himself walking to the nearest home where he was adopted by their family. It was nice at first, they all taking him in with open arms and feeding him like their own but fate would not have it. He eventually got sick, falling into a fever and growing weak. Unable to buy him the care that he needed he died, the young age of 7 being the best he could muster with his efforts.
Little did he know that this entire time, ever since the death of his father, a woman had been watching him. looking over his shoulder and tending to him the best she could in her after life. His mother, finding that even in death she could not leave, tended her son until he become so sick even her with her supernatural powers was unable to do anything but watch. When he passed she ran and wept, the loss of another family member too much for her to bear. Just as she was returning though, several hours later she was interrupted by the arrival of a Shinigami who took her son away and swept him off to the spirit world. Filled with anger and rage that was the last time that she was around her son for quite some time.
As for Rasen he was taken into Soul Society and given to a family that would take care of him as his last family did. He was wary, feeling that he has lost too much to lose again but he eventually warms up to the family. With time he ages, almost at a 1 to 10 year ratio until he was about 90 years old. By this point his family was truly his everything, him dedicating his time and efforts to making them all comfortable. When his appearance changed from that of a 7 year old and he hit 90 his family in repayment for his efforts and appreciation of his work gifted him with something that would change his life forever. Using a great deal of saved money they bribed a teacher to allow Rasen to take the Shinigami entrance exam and if he did well enough then the teacher would vouch for him on their behalf letting him attend the academy.
It was a close call but Rasen made the cut, the teacher having decided on their own that if Rasen made it into the top five students that tested he would accept him. If not however he would keep the money and boot him out. Making the cut by a hair Rasen began his life as a student, getting the basics down of how to be a Shinigami but sometimes the details escaping him as he would have a hard time paying attention in classes about Kido or Reiatsu manipulation. He did however manage to excel in the physical arts, drawing pride in his skill to fight on part with the older students.
As often as he could while in school he would go home to visit his family, even if that really only meant once a month or less, finding out how much he really put them out of money by having to bribe that teacher to get him into the school. In his head his entire life he has never felt like he was owed anything by anyone but these wonderful people had placed themselves into an extreamly uncomfortable position for him to attend this school. Doubling down on his work he began to cover the ground that he had lost in school, getting his Kido up to a little less than par.
He even learned what it really meant to become one with his blade and meditate with his Zanpakto. By the time that he was ready to graduate from the school he was one of the top three students in his class, save for a female with an odd ability to study and a naturally skilled student at kido. Finishing his class he graduates, Yamankyojin as his Zanpakto, advises him on what he should do about a squad. Revealing to the teacher that he truly appreciated the opportunity to make a difference he was going to allow his teach to decide what Squad he should request to join. Not an hour later a letter of demand was delivered to him so that he would report to his new squad, the Battle Squad 11.
There he performed the general patrols that were demanded of all its members while every now and then being tasked with traveling as an escort to another squad so as to provide security. From there he served his time up till the present day and makes his way all the way up to 7th Chair. With his rank and title he does however get a few privileges that normally are not allowed, for instance he moved hi family from the poor district to the middle class and even found his father a better paying job that allowed him to start making back all the money that was lost in the bribe.
Name: Hadō #33 Sōkatsui (Blue Fire, Crash Down) Class: Kido Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: Long (70m) Incantation: Ye Lord! Mask of flesh and bone, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, Upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws! Description: Fires a burst of blue spiritual energy at a target in a similar manner to Shakkahō at x10 Cero Speed, but over a wider area and with more power.
BAKUDO
Name: Bakudo #39 Enkosen (Arc Shield) Class: Kido Type: Binding Tier: III Range: <5 Meters Incantation: Unknown Description: Summons a large, circular shield of condensed reiatsu to block opponents' attacks. The user's Zanpakutō is used as the central focus of the shield. An Advanced or Mastered user can bypass this flaw and use it on any part of their body.
Eishōhaki (詠唱破棄, "Incantation Abandonment"): is the skill in which a Kidō practitioner skips using a spoken incantation completely, but it drastically weakens the spell. This is applied as a 1-2 tier drop in the spells power depending on ones Kidou mastery, 2 for Beginner up to Advanced, and 1 for Mastered and above. However this also lowers the spells cooldown to match the lowered tier, to a minimum of Tier I.e.g A Tier IV Kidou be cast with Eishohaki as a tier II, its cooldown will also be the same at 0 posts.
BATTLE SKILLS
Name: Judo Class: Hand to Hand Style Tier: N/A Type: Supplementary Range: Self Description: Judo it Ju-jitsu's father in the martial arts tree, acting as a more offensive-based locking and breaking martial arts. While Ju-jitsu and Sambo both have forms that one follows to utilize the martial arts, Judo is a completely free form style and actually lacks a style of any sort, no matter what part of Judo you look to. Judo's main focal point as a martial art is it's violent power behind it, which Ju-jitsu tends to shy away from, in no way is Judo overly offensive, but rather, it lacks defensive categories outside of disarming and locking people.
Training Judo is much like Ju-jitsu, meaning it requires a partner or a humanoid body to properly train. Commonly, Judo will utilize anything from throws and punches in sparring, often times sparring in Judo is considered a fight all it's own, proving the emphasis on the power of this style.
Finding a place to train Judo isn't hard, but it isn't a universal or sport martial arts. If you go to learn Judo, you're out there to learn self-defense, not to learn how to do it within a sport.
Name: Katame-Waza [Grappling Techniques] Class: Hand to Hand Technique Tier: II Type: Offensive Range: Self Description: Katame Waza are the grappling techniques of Judo, but they all fall down to the basic fundamental of grappling something or someone, and that is to grab and lock them. The use of this as a technique is simple, upon utilizing any grapple, the user can increase the power on the grapple itself and then proceed to twist the arm brutally, causing immense pain and then an eventual fracture in such a way that the arm is forced to stay pointed to where-ever the user had it pointed in the first place.
Name: Atemi-Waza [Striking Techniques] Class: Hand to Hand Technique Tier: III Type: Offensive. Range: Self. Description: Atemi-Waza are the striking techniques of Judo, but rather then Karate in which they have many variants, the most unique a Striking technique gets is how much emphasis you put into it. This is focused on by any Judo user who is in the situation in which they can land a punch, making them able to enhance it with their own power to increase their strength and deal an immense amount of damage in a single punch or graze, causing things from broken jaws to broken noses.
Name: Flashing Edge Class: Weapon Skill Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: Melee Description: The 'Flashing Edge' spoken of is from the glint of light from the weapon puts off as it swings at blinding speeds. This attack is always performed with two hands, the main hand used as a pivot and the rear hand used for the power. Attacks landed with this technique can rend metal, sever bones or maim opponents. At equal advantages this attack leaves a major laceration, -1 advantage is a large cut, -2 advantages is small cuts and scratches. With +1 advantage this ability can be fatal if a solid hit lands, +2 advantages almost certainly being the severing of what ever it strikes. This attack moves at Half Bala Speeds as far as the weapon can reach.
Name: Class: Tier: Type: Range: Description:
Name: Shunpo (Flash Steps) Class: Stepping Type: Stepping Range: N/A Tier: I Description: A movement technique that allows the user to move extremely quickly over short distances. The focal point that determines the basis of this technique is speed. Therefore what determines the level of skill in a user for Shunpo is best characterized by how fast one can get from A to B in the least amount of steps.
In its sealed form Yamankyojin is not that odd to look at, the blade and sheath of this weapon grey like stone and polished to a sheen. The blade is standard Katana length with a slightly shorter grip than a normal katana almost implying that it is to be used one handed. Only one side of this blade is sharpened so if the time comes he may brace the rear of his blade with his bare palm for more force. The base of the sheath is covered with a bronze cap that is embossed with a small landscape of a mountain side. The grip of Yamankyojin is wrapped with a grey thick ribbon, wrapped in a spiraling clockwise pattern so that each wrap that it goes down there is an equal sized strip of the wooden handle visible underneath. At the base of the handle a matching bronze pommel is set the same as the sheath, another mountain landscape set into the metal this one with clouds touching the peaks of the landscape. The hand guard is a set at an angle, a diamond shape but with one side mounted higher than the other by about thirty degrees. In the hand guard a second diamond is set into the metal but offset by 45 degrees so that it is a diamond within a diamond.
SPIRIT APPEARANCE
Yamankyojin himself is large in a word. Starting with height he stands at a massive 23 meters tall with broad shoulders to match. Covering his head totally his a massive helm that has large plates on its sides with cross weaved layers of metal on the face plate to see through that curve up and onto the top of the helm. The base of the helm is grooved with large squares of metal cut out that fit perfectly with the chest piece to seal up the neck. The chest itself is covered with three massive plates of metal that layer on top one another to form the front of a breast plate but only the front leaving the back bare and exposed. This exposed area is bare skin or hide more appropriately, white wiry fur growing in thick layers on this massive mans back. His waist is wrapped with a large golden cord that holds up several long plates of metal that drape down to his knees as a type of armored skirt. On his feet are two massive armored boots matching the breastplate in design, heavily armored in the front and exposed in the back, massive muscly calves showing from behind. On the shoulders two large curved plates of metal act as shoulder paulderons that are embossed with the same dwarven/celtic design that the wrest of the armor has. Strapped to Yamankyojin's back is a towering beast of a sword, chained with large golden rings of metal. The blade itself is a massive scaled up form of Rasen's Zanpakto in its released form.
SPIRIT PERSONALITY
Yamankyojin while a Zanpakto and has only Rasen's exposure to the world has a strong sense of idealism and morality, accompanied but a hefty amount of judgment. While he is a bit soft spoken he will talk and push his own opinion for so long that it is more often than not that Rasen will simply fold and do as Yamankyojin wants just to end the debate which is a trait in itself that Yamankyojin does not like about Rasen. That fact that he will not simply stick to his own ideals bothers the Zanpakto deeply to the core. His ideals are almost always for the 'greater' good be it giving extra money to those that need it more or spending time so that those that need money get the help that they can to find a better source of income. This judgment from the Zanpakto is not to create a better world but more to create a balance as he see's far too much 'evil' in the world taking its roots even in the Gotie 13.
Yamankyojin's conviction and will is so strong that sometimes even Rasen finds himself over exerting himself to assist others or placing himself in a situation where after the deed is done he is exhausted. This passion and determination is so strong and every now and then so oddly timed that it catches even Rasen off guard, suprising him with Yamankyojin effort to see a particular task done. All of this said Yamakyojin is actually a rather private being, letting his wants known but his actual detailed feelings stay unsaid and kept under wraps.
INNER WORLD
Rasen's inner world is a bit lonesome, a massive cityscape, worn down and cracked all over its streets. The buildings, made from large limestone blocks, are covered with ivy and hide a good portion of the city from view to anyone that happens down its streets. The maximum height of the buildings is four stories and are capped with large flat areas that seem to some kind of rooftop garden. In the middle of the city several square blocks have been flattened, the stone dragged away and piled into the rough appearance of a bed for a giant, somewhere to sit and finally what seems to be some kind of fire pit. The streets themselves are a cobblestone, no actual pavement in sight. There is one building that appears out of the ordinary in the limit of this dead metropolis though. A single building blocks wide at its base with a single winding stair case that leads up to a chapel that holds a single alter with a book on it. The book has never been opened and Rasen has no knowledge of what it could be for but he knows that the book is key in his life and if he ever wants to find out what is in it he will have to make his way to it eventually. Anyone that attempts to climb the stairs or that finds a more direct route to the top keeps finding themselves reappear back at the bottom or near the bottom no matter how the try to traverse to the top.
SHIKAI
SHIKAI APPEARANCE
'Rumble - Yamakyojin' and the fun begins. White light shines as Rasen's Zanpakto becomes white with energy and reforms as its released shape. First its length is increased, being a total of 6' long this blade is massive, even taller than Rasen himself but is now covered with massive nicks and gouges in the blade from what appears like previous combat.
The blade also broadens becoming a total of 5" in width looking something similar to a great sword but without the weight. Where the blade is within 1' of the hand guard the edge of the blade becomes rounded so that should Rasen need to he is able to grab the blade for more maneuverability or agility mid combat shortening up on it like a spear. The handle itself does not grow at all, staying the same length as its previous form but tapering outwards slightly as it get closer to the blade so that the transition of the blade to handle is not too dramatic in size. Set on the blades side itself is a small design that extends up its length about 10". Its is offset diamonds to form a detailed pattern that gives the blade a bit of a 'unique' look that sets it aside from all the other blades.
SHIKAI ABILITIES
Name: Colossus Fang Class: Release [Shikai] Tier: II Type: Supplementary Range: Self Description: This ability allows Rasen to scale his Zanpakto up from it regular size to a massive maximum of 36' or 11 meters. He is able to increase either the blade, the handle, or both simultaneously to give him the total of 36'. The extension of the blade can include but does not require that he also scale up the thickness of the swords handle or blade. On the other side of this he is also able to shrink the blades size from its Released state of 6' down to a minimum of three feet, the length mixed between its handle and blade. This shift can occur up to bala speeds.
Name: Colossus Impact Class: Release [Shikai] Tier: III-IV Type: Offensive Range: 30m Description: Colossus Fang while large in scale is unable to be maintained at any larger sizes for extended periods of time due to the amount of energy that is required. This ability is where Rasen is able to scale up Yamankyojin in such a way that the rapid increase in size can be used in an attack either extending forward to pierce the target or grow up to 30m in length to fall onto the target, this offensive type of attack not normally possible with just Colossus Fang. At Tier III this expansion is at half as fast as that of a bala and at Tier IV it is as fast as a cero.
Name: Shikai Strength Class: Release [Shikai] Tier: II-III Type: Passive/Supplementary Range: Self Description: As with most releases the users strength goes up with its activation. This follows that standard giving the user x2 strength when his Shikai is released showing more power, strength and overall physical resilience. When the time comes and Rasen finds that he needs that bit more 'umph' he is able to focus himself and draw on a well of strength that is not always there. This ability is Tier III and grants him a x3 strength for seven posts before reverting back to its x2 form.
Name: Shikai Speed Class: Release [Shikai] Tier: II-III Type: Passive/Supplementary Range: Self Description: As with most releases the users speed goes up with its activation. This follows that standard giving the user x2 Speed when his Shikai is released increasing his mobility, dexterity and overall combat prowess. When the time comes and Rasen finds that he needs that bit more 'Zip' he is able to focus himself and draw on a well of speed that is not always there. This ability is Tier III and grants him a x3 speed for seven posts before reverting back to its x2 form. This ability is activated simultaneously along side Shikai Strengths Tier III version.
