Theocelese stared into the open ocean ahead of him. Where he was exactly, he didn't know. Didn't care. It was some desolate island that took, at the most, an entire day to walk around completely. The only things here that he knew would chatter were the critters wandering about. Mostly birds and rats. Things that wouldn't disturb him. Since leaving Las Noches, Theocelese sought only solitude. From time to time he would humor other creatures that came to him: Humans that could see him, other Arrancar and Hollow, as well as Shinigami. Sometimes they came willingly, though those lots were Arrancar from Las Noches who either wanted small talk, or attempted a vain task to convince him to come back. If one was looking for him, all it would take to do so was time. He caused no destruction or havoc on the land and at the most, it was just his presence that others could feel. Theocelese's choice of beaches were always at a random. He would just take to the sky and slowly descend towards the first plot of land he saw. When his sandal covered feet touched the malleable ground, he wandered to see if he had been here before by looking for a number carved into an easily noticeable tree. If his number was there, he moved on. If not, he'd stay for a day. Sometimes three, but never more than a week.
What activities the Arrancar took part in could be considered mindless wandering and reflecting on the world as he once knew it. An age of bronze and honour, now a bustling and dying world filled with industry and cowardice. How he used to live as a man in this world, he felt almost...disgusted by it. But there were things he clung to, things a man simply cannot forget. His family...one that grew to be rather large in the spiritual side, but in the days where Theocelese's soul originally came to be, he was once a father back then just as he is a father now. For a mind to have existed many millennia ago, only to be thrust into the brain of a man who knew the modern world was nearly maddening. Two different men, two different personalities. It was fairly obvious what the Arrancar was going through, he was simply trying to find that “happy medium”. He would be a different person altogether when that time came, but who he once was in the time of the Old World gods and the simple, non-native chef of Karakura Town would come together to create something new...perhaps something dangerous. Would he be a man looking to regain his status in the time of the Old World? Or would he succumb to what most of his kind fell to—bitterness, regret, the urge to exact vengeance on anyone or anything he thought had wronged him.
For as much as Theocelese needed to find out who he would become, he needed others to help him decide what he would ultimately become. This “neutral slate” could only be affected by others, as Theocelese himself wants no real part in the affairs of others. Maybe he knows this. Maybe that's the reason why he always looked at someone intruding on his strange urge to hear the waves of the ocean crashing against his sand speckled feet with coldness in his eyes. Maybe he didn't know this, and that fact caused him to become a callous shell. Those who have had the pleasure of brief interactions with the Arrancar would not do. The Arrancar who came to bring him back did so, ultimately, for their benefit. The Shinigami who tried to do him in were either ignorant, or were of the mindset to get their own names in the history books of the Seireitei. That last part, he could respect to some extent. As for the humans who approached him...those who saw the sword and shield and were still brave enough, talked to him out of curiosity that most of the time, he dismissed. From time to time he indulged in the company of others....but none of this moved him, or touched him at his “core”. There was no “core” right now to reach. The only thing that determined that was simply....
Chandre was enjoying a delightful sunny afternoon doing what could be roughly defined as 'swimming' around a chain of islands. She was working on a project that she had a particular design in mind, and she wanted some raw materials. For this design she was looking for snails, and she had found some lovely specimens near the ocean floor. She was now swimming up toward a little island, breaching the surf and landing on her belly on the beach.
To an outside observer, it would look rather odd as a deranged looking creature beached itself. Chandre bore the front end similar to a hammerhead mixed with a goblin shark where her rear half was reminiscent of a giant squid with spider like legs instead of tentacles. She clawed her way onto the sand with massive condor wings and elephantine legs, shaking off the seaweed and water as she finally started walking proper. The patchwork sea creature melted and shifted into the form of a woman hollow, lazily inspecting the rather large snails she had gathered. She was about to open a garganta to make her way back home when she noticed a man laying on the beach! Now that she actually drew her attention away from the snail, she could feel this man, and he was quite a powerful hollow of some sort.
Bonne Journee monsieur! My name is Chandre Boucher, who might you be? She asked as she pocketed the snails, shifting her cloak to look more weather appropriate (a thin dress and top with oddly moving flower patterns). She took note of the partial mask and blade, clearly the marks of an arrancar, a sub-species she was very intrigued by.
With the time of day being at the hottest, and the powerful beams beating down on him, Theocelese's mind wandered to going off into the clear, blue water. More than that, he felt a strange desire to find and collect sea shells. His mother, the one who helped to raise the god of the forge, always used to make him necklaces of shells she found on the beach and in low depth areas. With a child of his own in these times, he wanted to do the same. He'd collect them from the surrounding islands in an attempt to have a variety, but how would he get them to her without undoing the problem of being affiliated with him? That was what kept him sitting down, the thought of his only child getting into harms way just as her mother did. Out of all the things for a man such as himself to fear, it was not another attempt at assassination from the sun god, nor was it any Shinigami or Arrancar. It was just the fear of making sure someone he loved stayed safe. He grinned sadly at the things love could do. All the good things, but the overwhelming amount of terrible things, too. The war he once died in was started because a man's missing wife, but that story is a public commodity to readers of the ancient texts.
For now, Theocelese would dwell on how to solve this parental problem of his and instead take to the ocean. It wasn't the water of his homeland, but it would do just the same. He rose with a lazy huff and started to undo the sleeves, blue robes covering his torso when a creature slithered onto the beach. It changed forms, spoke to him and continued to alter its appearance. It sounded feminine, looked somewhat feminine and had that feminine aura of politeness to it. His movements at this point were not subtle at all when it came to lifting up his sword. The shield remained face down against the hot sand. With his hand gripped onto the handle and his index finger placed on the flat of the blade, he held the point at the other Hollow. That made his intentions clear right away, he wouldn't be afraid to end this right now if he had to. Chandre could see it in the Arrancar's golden eyes and scarred face that he did not find remorse in killing. Given the emanation of her power, or what she could have just let out, this Hollow wasn't a threat. Then again, they were so far off from any spiritual hot spots that the only reason the Shinigami would show up was by complete accident, or he blew up the chain of islands. Theocelese's arm fell, and the blade found a new home in the sand. There was no need to be on alert here. It was just them, the island and its animal residents and the water.
“Nobody.” He said, not trying to reference his oldest of friends. “...That you know. “ This Hollow reminded him of some of the more....eccentric beings from his time. If he did not have the knowledge known to him now, Theocelese would have guessed she, or it, was the offspring of a sea nymph. “What brings you to the human realm, Hollow?”
She stopped in her tracks when he rose his sword up to where her nose would be if she bothered with such things. She would have let out a sigh of indignation, largely displeased with having to deal with the standard 'hollow greeting' package, though decided against it should she provoke him. She wished that she came across others of her species that had a 'talk first' policy instead of the regular bared teeth, growling thing where everybody puffs up and tries to convince the other guy they aren't worth the effort of a fight.
Is it too much to ask that we use our words like grown up monsters? She thought to herself, otherwise wondering if he was going to actually press forward with an attack or make an attempt at civility. Her plan in the event of an attack would be to run like a jack rabbit, knowing full well that fighting this guy wouldn't be worth the effort. She wasn't the sharpest rietsu sensor in the desert, but even she could tell this Arrancar was so far past her league, he wouldn't be able to turn around and see her with a telescope. Heck, even if he was more on par with her from a power point of view, she wasn't a fighter by any stretch of the imagination, much preferring to enjoy scholarly endeavours and intellectual pursuits. She was more than a little relieved when he brought his sword down listlessly, letting the blade rest in the sand. Saying that he was nobody Chandre would know was pretty easy for the woman to confirm. She knew very few hollows personally, and knew of only a handful more.
No grand feat to be unknown to me mon cheri, I don't generally follow the goings on in the grand desert, let alone the denizens there in. She said with a jovial tone, taking a seat in the soft sand, being careful to not plant her rear end on the freshly rested blade. I spend the vast majority of my time here on the human's realm. I find them much, much more interesting to be around. For instance, I've recently taken up biological engineering, a technological art that these humans have developed in the past few decades. She said as she pulled one of the snails she had collected out to look it over as they talked. I intend to turn these little fellows into something useful for instance. Though I do so largely for the form, not the function. I find it quite lovely. She said as the little creature lazily crawled along her slender hand. Chandre traced the spiral on the shell of the little sea creature, noting and enjoying every bump or spike.
What of yourself my very enigmatic Arrancar? What brings you out into the human realms? She asked, wondering if it really may have been something as simple as the view. Now that she actually took a moment to breath it in, the scene was very catching. The soft blue sky meeting nearly seamlessly with a ocean, making it seem as if one could merely swim to the brightly glowing sun in the noon sky. The smell of salt around her and the feel of sand below, there was no question why humans put such value to areas such as this.
It sat down next to him, no need for a swim just yet. The Arrancar's palms fell against his knees as he settled back in, taking in what the Adjuchas had to say to him. There was some truth to what it...what did it call itself again? Chandre, that's right. Chandre spoke some truth and was quite wise to remain outside the business of Hueco Mundo. It was a place for the damned, if being damned meant being weak. And there were a lot of weak things scuttling around. Thankfully, there weren't as many lunatics to try to take all the weak ones as meat shields on some quest for a “holy” agenda. The Adjuchas reminded him of someone. Two people, actually. The first person could help him out with his dilemma, and for what it was worth, he gave the Adjuchas a smile that said 'thank you', although the words did not actually leave off of his tongue. Moments like these, where just having someone around helped him without the person even knowing it, would do some mighty good in the long run.
“A wise decision, I would keep it that way. Just make sure you keep yourself hidden at all times. Better to run, than curse the road.” Chandre probably knew this, but it never hurt to remind another Hollow to always be on guard. Especially at that stage Chandre was at. Reverting back into a lesser being when there was just one last grand leap ahead was devastating to their kind in both the mental and physical aspects. The second person the Hollow reminded him off, he couldn't quite put the name to her face but given a little bit of time he would have it. Rather than bringing her up, he'd remain quiet, trying to give one short and concise answer without seeming like he was reading out of a book to a child at bed time.
“It reminds me of a place I once lived at. It is...peaceful. Quiet. Those two things are a sparse commodity for a kind like ours. To everyone else, you're either a monster, a servant or means for more power but only you yourself can truly dictate you are, and never will become any of those.” His left hand fell to the sand, letting the yellow stream fall in between each finger until the granules rejoined the millions of others once again. “I am....in dire need of those two things, more than anything else. Some semblance of normality, talking to someone else, I will admit is also helpful. I've been through much, and I've paid my dues for those I have wronged. Thank you for approaching me instead of fleeing, I do apologize for my behaviour before.” He nodded at the sword, then reached his hand out as if asking to hold one of the snails.
“When still breathed mortal air, I was told I made a dish called Escargot. Perhaps, if you're interested, I could invite...” He paused briefly, as if doubting the name in his mind. “...you and an old acquintance of mine by the name of Eleanor. She too, is an Arrancar. But I do think you could engage in better conversations than what I can offer.”
Chandre saw a smile cross her mystery arrancar’s lips, something that wasn’t particularly rare among those of her people who could manage lips to smile with at least. The odd thing of it though, most of the time, those smiles were maniacal, deranged, ear to ear and sometimes literally. This one? Small, honest, heart felt and sincere. If sitting alone on a sandy beach in the middle of nowhere staring off into the distance wasn’t evidence enough of his heavy heart, that smile was the final word on the topic. Chandre felt her own tempo shift, slightly away from the ‘carefree’ jovial tone that she usually put forward.
I know the value of staying hidden, and personally I find it a curse worse than the never ending hunger. She said, hugging her knees to her chest as she looked out to the ocean and its endlessly shifting surface. If there is anything that anyone should know about me, it is that I am an artist. I create things by my nature, and above anything, I wish for my art to be appreciated. In this world however? I can’t. I can’t show anybody anything because the moment I do, I am besieged by Shinigami, accosted by these powered humans or Quincy, or even attacked by my own kind who are too stupid or blood thirsty to care. She grumbled, though didn’t want to bog her new friend with her own issues, he seemed to have plenty of his own. It doesn’t stop me though. If I must make something, I will make it wonderful and those who can appreciate it will. I have learned over the years that they won’t stop, the tide of people who want to kill me is never-ebbing, so I can either cower in fear, or I can live this life as splendidly as I can. She mused with a slightly more upbeat spring to her voice, straightening her back and stretching her arms over her head. She could be killed or eaten today, tomorrow, or a millennia from now, it didn’t matter, so long as she made it worth the effort. She couldn’t help but wonder about the man beside her though, how he sought out peace and quiet, why he needed somewhere of his own to hide. Chandre could only find so much in stillness, her thoughts were endless and sometimes a little quiet was good to order things, but her hands couldn’t stay idle long. They rarely even stayed as hands for too long now that she thought about it. As she was pondering what he was trying to stay away from, he apologized for the whole… sword thing, which nearly floored Chandre. This man was truly and completely abnormal when she thought back to all of those she had come into contact with. He was powerful, thoughtful, polite and sincere. She quickly pondered if marriage was a thing that hollows could do, but dismissed the thought based on her knowledge of marriage as a thing (which was largely garnered from soap operas).
Oh, don’t worry too much about it. While I don’t really appreciate be threatened with death or dismemberment, it is sort of par for the course with hollows, no? She said, and looked forward to the next time they met (if that did happen) where in she’ll not be at a swords’ point at the outset of the conversation. Or at least she hoped not. As for coming over, well, you could call that my natural curiosity. I just can’t leave things alone, and I swear it will be the death of me someday. Besides, I absolutely adore arrancar, very fascinating creatures you are. I have several theories behind the convergent forms that you seem to share with Shinigami, but I have had contact with so few of you I can’t say I could reach any conclusions. She said, noting his outstretched hand before giving a little shrug and placing the snail in his hand. He made mention of his time as a living breathing man, which Chandre herself had to admit was interesting in and of itself. She could remember her life quite vividly, and her mortal self would have given anything to do the things that she did now. She also remembered escargot, often enjoying the savory meal with her family.
Escargot is a French meal mon ami, I have sampled many sorts from many places in my time alive and after. She said with a giggle, though now that she was a hollow she tended not to bother prying the little guys from their shells, just enjoying them like popcorn! She truly did enjoy human food in general actually, though there was a special place in that hollow heart of hers for French cuisine. I get the feeling that yours would be quite good though, so I would love to take you up on that offer. I would also love to meet this Eleanor of whom you speak, but you should not sell youself short, though I don’t know your name, you have been quite enjoyable to talk to. In all fairness though, most of the conversations she had were generally done while running from the thing she was trying to talk too, or killing it soon after for one reason or another. Being able to talk without the end of the conversation also ending with one of their deaths was just very freeing. So then, when not talking to lovely young hollows on sandy beaches, or cooking fancy French food, what does the mystery arrancar do? She wanted to ask what he was doing here specifically, but felt that she should get to know him a little better before going in deep for the hard to answer questions.
Theocelese took the snail from Chandre, letting it slither along his hand, bobbing its exposed body left and right as it inched along him. From what he was gathering of the Adjuchas, there was someone else in mind he could potentially introduce Chandre to. Eleanor, the last time he saw her was a Vasto Lorde. Their conversation was brief, but she was like Seran to him. Very intelligent, far more than him in the sense of book smarts, and when it came to crafting and tinkering with things. He knew how to work a forge, and while he still went by a mortal name he was able to reinforce his armaments to destroy his enemies, which as circumstance would have had it happened to be Hollow at the time. Rarely did Theocelese in that time have to worry about Shinigami. After all, they were there to protect him and his kind—humans, that is. Sometimes he was mistaken for a Hollow, but only once did it lead to any sort of altercation with a member of the Gotei 13.
The Arrancar watched the snail a few moments more before moving his arm back to Chandre. The snail continued onwards, back onto Chandre to leave its slime trail elsewhere. Theocelese wiped his arm off on his robes, then reached into a satchel that looked older than the both of them. The cracked, black leather had weathered all that mother nature could throw at it, and it was still here. Even the long, thick strap, as beaten as it was, did not seem to give way. From inside the personal bag, the Arrancar took out something wrapped in aluminum foil. Upon opening up the foil, Theocelese revealed something he baked himself not more than a couple of days ago. A dark chocolate brownie filled with maraschino cherries, fudge and topped with cream cheese frosting. The brick-sized dessert was set down in between the two, and while he hadn't planned on sharing this with anyone else...it was nice to be hospitable again. The only problem was, he didn't have a knife....but he had a sword. Theocelese pulled his legendary blade from its sandy sheath, wiped both sides of the sword's flat on his hakuma and then cut half of the brown into thin slices. He nodded to it, his mind still trying to figure out the question asked.
What did he do? And what name should he give her? Obviously the one all other Hollow, and to some extent, certain people in the Soul Society. “I go by the name of Theocelese now. Have been going by that for some time but I...” He paused, using this moment of hesitation to then wipe the frosting off the flat facing him. The whipped frosting, sweet and light. Not like conventional cake frosting, which he aptly named 'Tooth Rot' due to the insane, gritty sweetness. He savored the taste and it brought him once again to a better time. “I'm...” He paused again, only this time it was more apparent he was having trouble with his thoughts, especially with how late he flipped to the opposing flat, but didn't clean the frosting off just yet. After it was nearly clean, the sword found itself stuck in the sand next to his bag.
His tone softened dramatically, and again his eyes shifted to something more passive. “I've done a lot,” The Arrancar sighed softly, folding his arms behind his head just before his back touched the ground. “but for the time being I haven't done much. Just going from island to island, doing the same exact thing I was doing before we started talking.” He left it at that, and crossed one leg over the opposite knee.
Chandre took the snail back, putting it back in her ‘pocket’ which really meant re-absorbing the little critter. It actually went into a sort of little water filled cavern she had made in her chest cavity, just big enough for the three snails to comfortably huddle together. Chandre wondered what he was getting when he started rifling through the little leather bag he had brought with him. It seemed like that thing had seen better days, but definitely had been holding up okay. Chandre pondered making a bag of her own, something with a little dimension in it so she didn’t always have to carry everything she went shopping for in her body. She was starting to ponder how to wrestle another dimension into a bag when the arrancar produced a brownie and proceeded to cut it into slices with his sword. Chandre herself enjoyed chocolate, but for some reason or another had never been terribly good at actually producing anything with chocolate. She could manage and éclair, custard, puff pastry of all sorts, but when chocolate became part of the recipe, she could not produce something appropriately edible. It was a frustrating handicap that she didn’t know how to fix, and she would have brought it up, but something else perked her curiosity a little bit more.
Hmmm, I thought that arrancar viewed their zanpactou’s with reverence, but you would use it in place of a butter knife? She questioned, wondering if it were just a stereotype, or if Theoceles, as he introduced himself, just didn’t prescribe to the idea. He was definitely an odd one, so it wouldn’t really surprise her if he was just an outlier in terms of views. He seemed to be spacing out on answering her earlier question in favour of cleaning the frosting from the side of his sword, like it was an impulse control issue. She thought it was kind of cute really, even as he was finishing up and putting the sword aside.
Well, it’s necessary to take a break every now and again, just make sure you don’t take too much time, life isn’t something to be wasted. You’re a very powerful, immortal soul eating wonder of nature, and you only have all of the rest of time to do what you want to do, and with all of the things that you can do, it’s not nearly enough time. She said, imparting bit of her philosophy for Theoceles to chew on. She knew that she wanted to make art right now, and didn’t see a future for herself where her art was less important to her, but it could happen. In three millennia she could put down her paint brush for good and take up swimming as a hobby, gardening maybe, learn some martial arts or all of them, she didn’t know where her interests would go or how much time she had to fulfill them. She could die tomorrow or live until the heat death of the universe, she had no way of knowing. Yet. Maybe I could make a device to look into my personal future… She thought to herself, her mind wandering a little too far from the beach than was healthy for a conversation of any variety. She snapped back to reality, absent mindedly picking up a slice of brownie. In her hand formed a plate for the brownie to rest on, and a small fork in her other hand, both sporting the same filigree and decorative style. She picked a piece of the brownie up with the fork and brought it up to her mouthless mask before stopping for a moment. She looked over to Theoceles for a moment.
Since you’ve been so frank with me, I feel I should show you something. she said as her mask seemed to liquefy and move from her head, coming down to her chest and vanishing into her dress. In its place was the face of a young woman, pale, with soft petite features and large green eyes. To the outside observer, it may appear that Chandre had removed her mask, but in reality it was quite intact and covering her ‘real’ face. She had made the face that was where her mask usually was just as she would make another set of hands, it was a largely aesthetic piece. She re-aligned her vocal chords a bit, as well as he eyes and ears to be functional up there, but that was about it. This is what I looked like when I was mortal. As best I can remember it anyway. She said as she took the bite of brownie off her fork. Some would say that I was pretty, but every time I looked in the mirror and saw this same face, I couldn’t help but be revolted in its stagnation. I couldn’t change, if I was a piece of art, I was already made, and the artist had moved on. It was a pain I could not put into words. She said as he took another bit of brownie, talking in an almost bemused tone like it was funny. But now, I have whatever face I want, I am always changing, becoming whatever I feel is beautiful. I know a lot of our kind battle with the transition from being something ‘human’ to being a monster, but I find what I have become a blessing. What blessings do you have? Chandre asked, trying to cheer up her melancholy conversational partner. There was always something good about what you were, even if you ate souls like popcorn chicken.
The advice given to him by the Adjuchas was one he would take note of. Though sometimes he felt old, like when it was too cold or rained really hard and his knees, shoulders and wrists ached, she was right. Technically speaking, he had until whatever divine power that be decided to wrap things up or someone like that bastard Aizen actually succeeded in his goals to bring everything to ruin to do whatever the hell he wanted. Granted, he couldn't exactly go to college again to learn some new trade, he could sit in on whatever classes he wanted and take notes. As boring as that may seem for a “powerful, immortal soul eating wonder of nature”, he could still learn things and bring what was learned in conjunction with his notes back to place he frequented and called home. He imagined the look Seran would give him and couldn't help but form a devilish smirk. The strange man who built him a supernatural cellphone—not once, but twice, because he wasn't good with keeping track of the device and wound up breaking the first, standing there with a blank look on his face with a very subtle undertone of 'why aren't you doing something more productive'? That in itself...was a good question at the moment. Though making a new friend actually was something productive and worth while, Theocelese mentally dismissed the previous thought.
He couldn't help but chuckle at Chandre's notion of the sword being his Zanpakuto. He thought back to her earlier comment on her fascination of those of their kind who took off the masks which kept their true identity hidden. Every other person he met, Shinigami or Arrancar, their Zanpakuto were always weapons. More often than not, swords to some degree. But not Theocelese, his was...different, in all aspects. It could be said that in order to protect others, one must have a weapon of some kind to ward off those who meant to harm his or her loved ones. Such was not true about this particular Arrancar, history being what it was with him and the origin of his being, the shield was a staple of the soldier, who fought for the same reasons that anyone today fought for. Not only did it serve better to keep others safe, but it kept him safe from the threats of others as well. Like any fighter, Theocelese's dominant weapon was an extension of his own being. It was, however, a funny thought that his power should be contained inside of a literal barrier. Maybe he was too strong for his own good and grew to power too fast.
“That is not my Zanpakuto, the shield is.” He shifted to his side, facing Chandre to watch her figure beautifully contort and meld, exposing the face of the woman who came to be another one of the millions of Hollow in existence. The youthful look on Chandre's “true” face made Theocelese pondered how young she must have been when she died and while tragic if true, was just the nature of the world. Her opinion on her former features, however were more tragic than her death. Theocelese sat up once more to go digging into his bag and this time, he did not produce something to quench a sweet tooth, but instead a wallet that looked relatively new. New, but clearly used. From the double-sided plastic slips, a picture taken a few years before his death was removed and handed over to the Adjuchas. Theocelese looked similar in facial features then, minus the front-view of bone helmet. If he put on a tuxedo like in picture, he'd look almost exactly the same.
“What about pieces like the Mona Lisa, or Michelangelo's famous work in the Sistine chapel? Those have been around for quite some time and are a marvel to see in person. You should embrace yourself and take pride in that face. Whereas my face would be remembered for being worn by someone mean and vicious, yours would be for its ability to stun those who behold it. Should there be the day you decide to become an Arrancar, I do so hope you keep that face.” Theocelese fell back into his laying position, arms keeping his head propped up and his legs comfortably crossed. His eyes remained on Chandre's face, looking into her eyes now to see any reaction to his silver-marinated words. “You must also remember that while we're viewed as monsters, there is no living species as terrible as humans. We should know, we've been there. Even if you did not walk the same path I did in my human lives, the two I recollect any way.” He kept it at that, thinking on the blessings that were suppose to come with this life. As of right now, he felt cursed more than blessed with the recent events he was forced to endure. No doubt he would be involved in future conflicts, Theocelese just wasn't sure which side he would be with. It was a sad eventuality, just as a thief stole once but told to himself only once, and no more, the thrill was too much to contain. Theocelese held this mentality, he was born and bred to end lives. He excelled in combat, capable of holding his own in the midst of carnage and his former previous life, was renown for his uncontrollable rage.
“I suppose the only positive thing I can think of as a blessing something you already said: I have all the time to do whatever I want.”
Chandre was a little surprised at the notion that the sword wasn’t Theoceles’ zanpactou, seeing as the vast majority of the things that Chandre knew of were blades of some variety. She stole a glance at the shield lying behind the well-built fellow, wondering exactly how his ‘weapon’ came into existence. It was a subject that she drew quite a bit of curiosity from actually. Arrancar zanpactou were supposedly seals placed on their natural abilities, but the form and function of the zanpactou itself were determined by what? Personality? Stylistic choice? She was primed to question the arrancar more, see what choice if any he had in the form of his weapon, but she was caught by a question of his.
The Sistine Chapel? She said almost quizzically, trying to re-order her thoughts to what his question was. Of course if it art, and of course it is beautiful. I have taken so much time in this afterlife to peruse the greats, see what has been made and take pleasure in the collective beauty that artists new and old have produced. She said, not bothering to bore him with the details of how she ‘haunted’ the Louvre in France, or how she had basically lived with Salvador Dali as the man grew up. The arts, be they paintings, sculptures, music, animated videos or strange installations, they all had merit and they all deserved to be viewed. But think of it this way: I am immortal in many definitions of the word. I can visit that chapel and look over every brush stroke individually for two hundred years if I truly wished to do so. However, eventually and unfortunately, it will become placid to me given enough time. In the moment I first see it, it is wonderous and breathtaking, a gift that I could only hope to have been given. The second time I lay eyes on it on the other hand, is just a little bit less spectacular. She said sullenly. It was actually for this reason that she rarely revisited a piece she truly enjoyed, not wanting to dull the experience, to replace that first memory with something lesser. However, every time somebody wishes to look at me, I can be different. She said even as the ‘face’ she wore changed hue to be of a darker complexion, her hair becoming blue and her eyes a shifting prism of color. Her body and features changed as well, coming to look like a middle aged Indian woman with swirling filigree tattoos. In this way, I hope to be like the only artist I truly do admire: life. I know so many hollows who have such little respect for life, but in it I find the most exotic of colours and forms, each one changing in its own way, guided by life’s invisible hand. She mused, knowing it was the reason that all of her creations (artistic, practical or fuelled by her powers) were actually alive in some manner. She took so much pride in being able to forge life from something where the cold and lifeless materials of stone and steel were without merit to her.
Now then monsier Theoceles, I have a couple of questions for you. She said, shifting her pose to look more forwardly at her new friend, her posture giving away that she was very excited to learn. You are, obviously, an arrancar, and I have to admit that I am very curious about the whole process. For instance, you say that I hope I keep the face of my former life, but is that a choice I have? She queried, wondering if this whole process was as customizable as her own body was presently. As far as she knew, it was as simple a matter as taking a crowbar, prying off your mask and hoping for the best. That aside, she didn’t even know what the process actually was! She had heard tell of a device of some sort that has been lost to time and the sands that a powerful Shinigami had used to create arrancar, but they were also a naturally occurring phenomenon, so she knew it wasn’t the only means. Did it matter how powerful you were? If she yanked her mask off now, would she be transformed, or merely die without the proper preparation? She was very curious about the whole thing, and mostly from a scientific stand point. She herself had no real intention to become an arrancar herself, though she had no reason really not to either, it just wasn’t a concern to her personally. But the knowledge, that was very important to her.
After that though, I am very curious about one other thing you mentioned. You said past ‘lives’ as a human. I can tell by your name you have an ancient Greek heritage, but at the same time, that wallet is pretty new, as are the pictures in it. Did you come back to life somehow? She didn’t know what the implications of becoming a human were for a hollow, or if a transformation was even truly possible. He very well may have been masquerading as one much in the same manner that Chandre did from time to time. Still, curiosity gnawed at her.
It seemed that the perspectives of art differed here, though one of them was an actual artist and the other performed well in only one art, the art of war. The only way he could make a comparison was having the same dish over and over again that he liked. Over time it would lose its luster and he would want something else. It has happened before. Still, though, it would be nice to know that should that day of transformation come to Chandre, she would keep the face that he knew. Granted, he could probably feel her out for who she was but a face was something different. A face was definitely more personal, and strangely he liked to know someone's face rather than what their Reiatsu felt like. There were others that differed, but everyone was different.
“I'm not sure, to be completely honest with you.” Theocelese cast a glance over at the waters in front of them, his eyes holding there for the time being. “The story of that, for me at least, is that a Shinigami possessed something of great power. He told me that what I wanted the most would be mine, all I need do is accept his guidance. As an Adjuchas, I recalled bits and pieces of the life not long ago. I knew of my daughter's existence, and another Vasto Lorde, a dear friend of mine in those times when I still was human, made sure I did not attack her when all that I could fathom was devouring others. It's...funny to think about now. He could have killed me at any time, but he allowed me when I was human to sit him down and make him promise to me he would do that. Anyways...I'm rambling...” Theocelese laughed loudly at the thought of when Beastia actually came to visit him, always eager for conversation and some new, foreign dish.
“What I clung to the most, was who I was. I needed that information, even into my own Vastohood. The only thing that Shinigami ever did right was help me remember who I was. I suppose forced servitude was the price I had to pay.” And then it hit him, anything he ever really wanted-truly wanted, he always paid dearly for. They say his former name was one of eternal grief and sorrow. That made sense to him now. Hopefully all of what was spewn out quenched any lingering curiosities or questions the Adjuchas had in store. The next one, he chose to answer very carefully. Theocelese finally looked to Chandre, and in his eyes there was an intense seriousness that far-exceeded any emotion given through his eyes.
“I am the soul of he who died by the hands of a god, who was renown as the best warrior in all of my country. I am he who first landed on the soil of the very land I died in. I have been reincarnated, time and time again and have lived through many, yet I remember the life I can only recall is this one.”
His eyes lessened and a humorous smile crossed his face. The name he referred to in this way was already in the one given. Chandre just needed to research and dwell on it.
“...And that wallet was a gift given to me by an old Shinigami friend. Hand made in one of the wealthier districts of the Rukongai, she told me. As for the pictures, some are older. Some are recent within this decade, as I've only been dead for...” Theocelese made a face that suggested he actually needed to think about it. “Ten years, give or take.”
The answer of ‘I’m not sure’ disappointed Chandre a bit, she had hoped to have at least a little insight into the process. Still, despite the vagueness, she did gleen that a Shinigami had induced his change through the use of some sort of device. That was really promising to Chandre actually. She had heard of arrancar who went through the process ‘naturally’ and had come out the other end in a rather poor state. Knowing that the means to change into an arrancar was actually identifiable enough to construct a machine that can induce the change? That was reassuring. She had honestly been afraid that Theocelese would have brought up some esoteric thing like a spirit quest or meditative jaunt which would have been very hard to study indeed! She made a mental note to start experiments as soon as she could, maybe start by prying the mask off of some lesser hollows, see what happens. She personally hoped to evade the ‘price’ of forced servitude if she could manage it though, that sounded impressively boring.
His answer to her other question was… also pretty vague, but in a more cryptic way. She didn’t mind that at all, gave her something to riddle out, which was usually at the very least amusing. His mention of re-incarnation piqued her interest as well, having heard the line from the Shinigami about her collective souls being ‘returned to the cycle’ or something to that effect. Does this mean he can remember one of his past lives?[/i] She wondered, sort of curious if that meant there was some sort of extra planar record of these things. Does it mean if she dug deep enough into her own soul, she could riddle out her own past lives? The potential knowledge held there-in could very well be fascinating! What if, before this life, she had been the assistant to one of the greats? Actually been there when the Mona Lisa was being painted? What of her other lives behind the veil? Presumably she had been killed and lived some time as a spirit in her past lives as well, being in her current state sort of pre-supposed such action having taken place. What if she had been a Shinigami; seeking out and destroying the hollows which she even now considered a sort of extended family? That would be quite the comical piece of celestial irony. She was really enjoying this conversation, out of a few minutes of talking she had so many interesting ideas to tease out into experiments when she got back to her lab.
Then he mentioned that he was only about a decade old in his ‘life’ as a hollow, which nearly floored Chandre. She had celebrated her 223rd birthday just the other month, and without much mental prodding, she could tell that this man was leagues above her in power. Had she really been so lazy in her endeavour to become a stronger creature? Now that she thought about it, did she actually have any personal goals related to becoming stronger? Hmmm, I always pursued art and science more than gaining power of any variety… I don’t really look for opportunities to grow at all honestly… The thought to herself, only now thinking about how she ‘ate’ only out of necessity, and that it could really be more of an annoyance than a goal in and of itself. To be certain, growing in power and ability was useful in its own way; it helped her to fend off attackers and keep her work safe but never had been a goal in and of itself. For a warrior born like Theocelese, becoming a stronger being must have seemed like the swiftest road to accomplish his goals.
To have such a history in only a few short years, you must have been one industrious fellow. She said with a chuckle, wondering if going for power in the way he did was the reason he was sitting on this beach, trying to figure out what his next move was in the overall game of life. For instance: knowing a Shinigami as a friend? That’s pretty interesting on its own. I’ve only known a few myself and they’ve all pestered me to some degree or another. She said as her body reflexively changed while her mind sifted through the Shinigami she had encountered over her time dead. Her body changed from a petite girl with long white hair in a Shinigami uniform a few sizes too large for her, to a fairly average man with black hair and a neck tattoo that read “Bite Me” next to a tooth shaped scar. She moved through over a dozen bodies, each one in some variant or another of the Shinigami uniform before she settled on a rather large man, a good six feet tall and sporting silver hair pulled back in a neat pony tail was an English Longsword on his back. This one in particular really got under my skin! Not only did he ruin a months’ worth of work, he practically microwaved me with a Kemo therapy radiation device of some kind. I managed to escape with my mask intact, barely, but it remains a sore spot for me. She said, though it may have been a little eerie to hear her voice change to that of a 300 pound English-man from being a sultry sounding French woman. I mean, I would never dream of being prejudice, I’m sure there are some Shinigami out there that I would get on fantastically with, but so far no luck. Now I’m just being very cautious around them. She said with a humpf, feeling very vindicated in her decision. It’s still very difficult though, those blasted swords of theirs cut through pretty much everything I can change into without much effort. I have a design for a weapon to even the odds a bit, but I need something durable and organic to base the blade on. She signed, changing her body back to her original hollow form, complete with mask, flaming candles and French accent. I’ve heard of hollows with claws strong enough to parry the Shinigami swords, but I haven’t had the luck of… talking… to… She said as she realized she was talking to an arrancar, a species known for meeting Shinigami steel with their FINGERS to great effect. Um, I know you don’t owe me anything, but would it be too much to ask for a finger nail or skin sample? She didn’t know the etiquette for such things, it was very rare that she had to request help from other hollows, especially something as intimate as a part of their body. I understand if you say no, of course, I would just really appreciate the help. She said a little sheepishly.
“Well...” Theocelese began, putting a finger on his bearded jawline, pausing as if to recall the entire experience or...more still getting used to just what he saw. It was undeniable the things this man was capable of, constructive or destructive, he could level towns in one fell swoop, challenge at least three of the Gotei's Captains and come out the winner, he even unified a section of Hollow and Arrancar and made something of Las Noches...but what Chandre did, change from form to form so quickly and to take on the characteristics of those bodies such as their voices....It reminded him of a movie he saw growing up called The Thing. In the back of his mind, he almost felt the need to ask if Chandre was some kind of alien and not really a Hollow at all. His original belief regarding the afterlife, Jesus Christ and the Heavenly Kingdom, were smashed and the remaining fragments of his beliefs were incinerated when he learned that the gods of old actually did exist, and some of them existed to this day.
“You are right, there are some Shinigami who choose not to immediately draw their blades at us. In fact, the very Shinigami I befriended, her name was Hitomi...something....I can't recall the rest, but I met her when I was a human.” Theocelese began. Oh, the rant Chandre was about to receive brought him back to a different state of mind, so much so the thoughts that were bothering him were forced out of the way. “I believe that when the god who originally struck me down did so, he cursed my spirit. I am adept, more so than normally, when light has been vanquished. Such a thing affected me greatly in my most recent bout with humanity, and I did not have complete control of it, for when I found myself in immense trouble, it...just flicked on, like some kind automated fire. I am sure at the time some ruffians were in the process of mugging me and had struck me several times.
My memory in what I did to them is not much but blotches of still images, but I remember reading in the paper the next day they were all hospitalized. I nearly beat them into their graves, but Hitomi came. My energy signature was like that of a Hollow, that is why she responded with such haste. They say my rage was one that required several others to keep me restrained, and with an influx of power such as what I felt, it was worse than that. We fought, and it came to a draw. I bent her Shikai slightly, and we both suffered some grievous wounds, however it formed a strong friendship. She helped me gain a semblance of control over time, and I helped Hitomi hone her own skills.” Theocelese grinned widely, his thoughts now going back to when Hitomi and every time she came over she brought groceries so he could cook for her. He didn't know what it was about females in the Soul Society, but they always had a way of breaking his appliances. That was a story for another time.
“Of course...I knew many when I was a human. A man in the Third Squad...what was his name...Kira! That's it. He was close to the status of an officer, if I do recall. I also met Kaname Tousen, one of the Shinigami who served the man who enslaved me, as well. Well into my death, though, I met many more Shinigami and even a few Vizards—er...Shinigami who have been infected with a Hollow, and can use that infection to strengthen their own power.” The grin on his face returned, but bore a greater width this time. “I suppose I just have an Old-World knack for knowing people, one that could help you. And I will talk to him-” He took pause and let out a hearty laugh, reaching up to slap Chandre on the back. “Who am I trying to fool? He won't bother with what I have to say unless you meet him, and Chandre ma petite choufleur, it seems that I am just in a possession of a plethora of people you must meet.” This all meant that Seran and himself would have to go back to Las Noches to reclaim old technology, one that would help Chandre in her efforts and have some organic compositions to it. Theocelese was sure his own sets of weaponry and armor were still locked in his room. Now there was still the matter of addressing the French Hollow's last request, one he wasn't sure of. “I also suppose I could aid you in what you ask for....but why exactly would you like one-or both-of those two things?”
Chandre listened as Theocelese mentioned how he had managed to meet some of the shinigami he had befriended. She also noted the odd look she received with her body changing shape and made a mental note to keep that to a minimum for the rest of their talk. It was only polite she supposed, most only ever had to deal with associating a name with a single face, and she had already flitted through nearly twenty of them.
His mention of meeting several of his Shinigami friends as a human was both disappointing and heartening at the same time. Chandre was, clearly, not human by any stretch of the imagination so she doubted these more talkative Shinigami wouldn’t give her the time of day either. Still, she was happy to know that they didn’t reflexively cut down humans, or at least some of them didn’t. The fact that Theocelese had some sort of hollow like rietsu at the time gave her hope for someday holding a meaningful conversation with the black robed people. She could take on the form of a human with relative ease, but it was her rietsu that gave her away. She started thinking of yet another line of mechanical intervention, a device of some sort that could change the ‘flavour’ of her rietsu? She would more convincingly be able to take on the visage of a human or even a Shinigami if she really had the inclination to.
At his mention of being ‘cursed’ and having an amount of power even before he had died, Chandre figured that it may have been a contributing factor to his lightening quick assent in the hollow evolutionary ladder. She was also a little curious about his blind rage! She herself had never been so angry as to black out and not remember what she did! The thought was actually quite terrifying to consider as she was always very in control of her faculties. However ‘frightening’ being a feral attacker may seem, she always considered being in fine control of oneself to be the better option in a hairy situation since instincts can be very, very wrong sometimes. She wondered if he still had that issue, if his temper still drew him in and stopped him from acting appropriately.
Then he slapped her on the back and mentioned another person she should get in contact with. She took a moment to compose herself, Theocelese was certainly a strong fellow, and while Chandre could lift a bus like a tonka toy, the slap had caught her off guard. She corrected her posture, sitting up a little more dignified as if nothing had happened before looking over to Theocelese.
You certainly are a well-traveled man with quite the network. I have to admit I am somewhat surprised to see such a social butterfly sitting all by his lonesome her on the beach. She said with a smile that was hidden beneath the featureless mask she wore. I am sort of curious how I would even actually get a hold of any of these people ‘I simply must meet’ considering I don’t exactly have a phone number. She mused, though the snails she was going to be working on later were hopefully going to solve that little issue for her. Still, she had pondered getting a phone for some time, but the things needed human interaction, which was a feat she couldn’t manage at the moment with predictable results. When he brought up why she would need a nail or skin sample, she had to think for a moment how to explain without sounding like a mad scientist.
Hmm, well, with the Shinigami attacking me pretty consistently, I need a way to defend myself. I have a design for a device that could produce for me a weapon, but I need a sturdy organic material to base the weapon on. She said as she brought up her hands, a little pool of wax forming in the cup of her hands. From the wax started to form a creature, roughly a foot long and reminiscent of an octopus tentacle save that it had fifty or so spider like legs where it would connect to the octopus. Chandre put her right arm forward and the creature wrapped around her arm, the ‘mouth’ with the spider legs came to just under her wrist and began moving the legs as if trying to knit something. Within a few moments, a fully formed French fencing sabre had been constructed, all made of the same strange threads. The whole display was just that though, a display. The creature and blade were as much as part of Chandre as her fingers and toes, not the device and weapon that she hoped to make. The nail of an Arrancar for instance is made of what I suspect to be some form of hyper-dense Keratin, a protein string found in hair, nails and skin. I would imagine that your rietsu is also a part of the equation, which will unfortunately mean that whatever I can make would likely be weaker than what you produce naturally, but if my calculations are correct, still strong enough to go toe to toe with a zanpactou. She was hoping that the explanation was succinct enough, she had a hard time not rambling when talking about her ‘art’ and she didn’t want to bore the man. A skin sample would be excellent to analyse for a more… flexible defense measure. The sword and creature that spawned it melded seamlessly back into her body before she cupped her hands again, this time a creature about the size and shape of a basketball came into existence. A small pair of feathered wings sprouted from what could be presumed to be the ‘back’ before it lifted itself into the air, revealing it to have a mouth that nearly cut the thing in half and over a dozen eyes dotting it all over. It opened its mouth to a cavernous five foot opening, as if begging for a treat of some kind, which Chandre obliged by shooting a little gout of flame into the things mouth. The creature eagerly snapped it up and came to a landing on Chandre’s shoulder like a very bulbous parrot. This would be my way of keeping away from their magical attacks, but I need something more flexible, like skin, but just as durable if not more so than the blade. She explained as the round creature also was subsumed by her body. I would only need a sample though, just enough to examine under a microscope and analyze the structure. I can use that to mimic it or grow a culture for when I actually make my art. Chandre was really hoping that Theocelese wouldn’t be too squeamish about giving her the samples, though she could understand that it may have been a bit on the odd side as to give something like this to who was more of less a stranger.
Name: Ahueque llamas (Hollow Flames) Class: Hollow Techniques Type: Offensive Range: 50 Meters Tier: III Description: Gathering reiatsu to either their mouths or palms, the user is able to set out reiatsu flames, in a way equally to a flame thrower that are able to cause burns on the target.
It was...a lot of scientific speak that he understood to a certain degree. However, the case of applying the things Chandre said was a completely different matter. Theocelese would not call himself a man of science, or too great at math. He could fix up an old beater car with time and the proper parts, but anything involving a microscope and petri dishes happened to be out of his preferred league. The things suggested by Chandre to do could be done with some time and practice, but that was just a preference for the Arrancar to do something as opposed to sit and study and create. Is limitations of creation for the purposes of combat, were simply just that of weapons of melee and ranged variety, as well as armor. For the sake of humoring the Adjuchas, he lifted up the shield and held it up. Without so much as a thought or concern, his other arm pressed into the sharpened outer-edge and moved down. Theocelese literally peeled off a small layer of skin, just big enough to hold a few strands of arm hair to it. There was a little bit of blood, some skin, and hair all in one. As for the tiny chunk taken out of his arm..Well, that could be regenerated no problem. A faint, purple outline surrounded him briefly, the focus, more or less was concentrated on the self-inflicted wound. By the time the outline around his body faded away, it appeared his previous action never occurred. With the small bit on his index finger, Theocelese reached out and held the desired samples out for her.
“Here. Your troubles are known to me, and you seem like a good enough person that if I aid you, you will return the favor some day,” He began, his face shifting from relaxed to a bit more serious. “Hopefully, that day will be in about a week from now. I'll be talking to a friend of mine in a day or so. I've mentioned him already, Seran, and I've already made mention of you two coming together. You see, the particular Shinigami who once enslaved me, left behind a considerably large dwelling for us Hollow and Arrancar. In that dwelling...laboratories that I once inherited and could make very little use of.
Seran makes use of them, but one being can only do so much. With help, and your area of expertise, I would guess the things sitting dormant there could be put to use. Not to mention, no one will bother you while you work.”
The arrancar seemed to get the gist of what Chandre was trying to explain, though the strained look on his face showed he was having a hard time grasping the ‘how’ of turning skin and hair into a shield and sword. However, even as the lady hollow was trying to brainstorm how to explain herself further Theocelese made the point of it moot by cutting out what she had asked for. It was an impressive little display of pain tolerance as he carved out a tiny square of flesh without a peep. Chandre also thought briefly how he would likely have a pretty decent career in medicine with steady hands like that. He did functionally just cut out a small square of skin with a shield which Chandre equated to trying to paint with a car tire as your brush. Still, the wound he had inflicted was gone even as he outstretched his finger to hand over the little bit of himsef.
Chandre formed a small pair of tweezers in her fingers as well as a similarly dimensioned plastic baggy in the other. With care, she picked up the little sample and moved it into the bag, which sealed itself before removing all of the air from the bag by her mental command. At the end of it, she had a little square of arrancar skin and hair, vacuum sealed in a little bag that she pocketed excitedly. The skin and hair should be more than enough for me to start up my cultures. Hmm, I’m going to need to get some more supplies, I wasn’t expecting to have these things so soon. She pondered, as her mind started wondering as it did to other questions. How do arrancar shave it their hair is tough enough to take zanpactou strikes? For that matter, how many arrancar bothered with shaving? Would their hair just regenerate within moment if they tried?
That odd train of thought was derailed with Theocelese made mention of her ‘paying him back’ in a week or so. Chandre was actually a bit blindsided by the mention of repayment, she hadn’t even considered that he may want something in return. That was partly due to the fact that he had made no mention of it before hand as a condition, and that Chandre had NO idea what she could possibly do for an arracar of this amount of power. He also made mention of a lab and his ‘dwelling’ that he had inherited from the Shinigami that turned him into an arrancar. From what Theocelese had described, not to mention the startling lack of housing in Heuco Mundo, she figured he was talking about Los Noches. Was he inviting her to stay in the one real landmark in the vast desert?
Well, I have to say that usually I get a second date in before a man invites me over to his place. She said coyly, though with a bit of a chuckle. But I am excited at the prospect nonetheless. Where would we be meeting up? She wondered, curious if he had a plan to meet in the human world, or at the gates of the vast city sized castle itself.
Theocelese grinned at her verbal response, followed by a laugh that served to further relax him mentally. “I've been told I'm charming enough to not need a second one,” He shot back, the laugh descending into a soft chuckle of his own. “We would meet there, in the laboratories of the facility. We will be going ahead a few days to clear of potential dissenters, squatters, or former factions of Aizen who saw my absence as a means to take back the place they once were driven out of.” Thinking back on that bloody event, Theocelese once found himself regretting the actions taken that day. But now...with this new mentality gained, he saw it was the only fitting route to take. Mercy was granted to all and a peaceful divide was an option those clutching to the belief Aizen was the one who would lead them greatness. Some took that divide, others did not. And those others were not around to tell that tale. Why did he let so many potential future enemies go? That question bounced around the inside his head, and he made a mental note that those Arrancar should be taken out.
“I can assure you as powerful as I am, power means nothings when it serves no purpose. My role as a leader has been to protect others. Specifically, our kind, sometimes from each other but mostly against Shinigami. Though sometimes, they were run-a-ways who needed a home and a purpose of their own. You are one who is particularly gifted, and I see that gift as something that needs protection from outside sources of hostility. Call it curiosity to see what you are capable of making, call it wanting to try and understand something outside of my comprehension, call it what you will, but a place like Las Noches needs people like you and I. To protect it and make it great. I am not saying you are to stay there for all times, I honestly don't care if you use the facilities for your own personal interests. What I do care about, is that you know there is a place for you to go and be safe, to do as you wish and create what you will.
This is important to me, as you can tell. While you were free from Aizen's clutches, you may not be from further forces with similar intentions. That is my end goal, Chandre. To make it known we aren't just mindless monsters to put a leash on and command to blindly mush forward.”
He was a charmer hmm? She wondered to herself, trying to imagine him wooing young arrancar in Los Noches however long ago. The image of him in a half buttoned suit with a disheveled tie with a single rose in hand came to mind, which she found a little comical. She wondered if he would try to woo her, or if he had ‘grown out’ of the whole charming people phase. A little part of her hoped not…
He mentioned going to Los Noches a little beforehand to clear it out of squatters and miscreants, which made sense. It was best to clean up the house before having company over. It was also best to make sure that it was in fact your house as well, but Theocelese seemed quite certain he would be able to make a legitimate claim. When it came to her species a legitimate claim usually meant you could punch a hole through the opposing party’s throat, and from the looks of him he was probably right. She also had to wonder who else was going to be joining him on this little extermination outing. He had mentioned ‘we’ would be clearing the place, so she imagined that the few that Theocelese had mentioned Chandre should meet would be among the cadre.
I have to admit, it would be nice to have a good and safe lab to work in. She said, remembering the many times where Shinigami had set her back weeks if not months in her work simply because they figured she needed to die. It was very frustrating. I may have to meet you at the door however, since I don’t exactly know my way around the place. She mentioned, remembering the few times she had laid eyes on the massive castle. It was so large, she didn’t honestly know how people got around inside of it unless there was some sort of interior rail system. That would actually make a bit of a sense, if there wasn’t one, maybe she could install something to help out with getting from point a to point b.
Now, I don’t want you to think I’m ungrateful or disinterested, but I really should be going, the snails I picked up are getting restless. She said with a tap to her tummy. She really did need them to remain fresh and alive, and the water she had placed them in wasn’t meant to keep them going long term. So, unless there was anything else you wanted to let me know, I will eagerly look forward to meeting you in a week. She said as she stood up, her weather appropriate clothing shifting from bikini to red evening dress and jewellery.
“This little sit-down was coincidental and sporadic. You have things to do, and I have things I need to go over. No wrong in that. I'll meet you outside the walls then, take care until then.” Theocelese waved a goodbye for now, then went to promptly gathering his things. The large brownie was carefully wrapped up, as to make sure no sand would find its way inside the foil wrapping. He would watch as Chandre left to go about her experiments with the gathered snails. He thought she would make a good addition to the people of Las Noches, regardless of her evolutionary status or physical form. There was, in his mind, no doubt those who took more of a liking to a fight than research and develop were a dime a dozen in their homeworld. He also took a fairly large guess that Seran would fancy having someone to work with someone who didn't just carry boxes and haul equipment around.
As for himself, he would try to be there as long as he could. It was not as though he had planned to leave the two as soon as they met, but the situation more or less revolved around if the two were to go into researcher mode, spitting out scientific jargon and phrases he needed a book to look up. Though there was the issue of knowing that he would be called away, this time on better terms than the last. He owed the old ones his life, so no doubt they would beckon him to some task or another. With these thoughts on his mind, Theocelese picked up each one of his personal items and took to the sky to repeat the process of randomly finding a new location to mull on the interaction that transpired. Time, it seemed, would bring many good things to him once again.
She gave a brief curtsey in goodbye before turning and walking away towards the tree line, a garganta opening at her touch. She stepped through, letting the conversation she had just enjoyed meander through her head, quite happy that the chance meeting had gone so well. She stepped out in Heuco Mundo, a quick stop there before opening another garganta that would eventually lead her to the lab she had on Earth.
When she stepped onto the familiar soft carpet of her lab underneath the Karakura university, she was still humming with excitement. One of her wax work creations meandered over and Chandre gave the little creature the snails she had collected so that he may deposit them in a tank for future experimentation. She put the hair and skin sample from Theoceles into a little Petri dish and put it in her fridge to preserve it, eager to get started but knowing she had a bit more preparation to do for that particular experiment. She held her hand up as wax bubbled from her palm, morphing and taking the shape of the man she had just departed company from. The little figure of Theocelese moved around, testing different poses before Chandre settled on a sort of ‘brooding’ look with both hands on his shield out in front of him. She removed the little figure from her hand and put it on a shelf alongside a few other figures that she had found interesting over the years.
Hmm, retour au travail… She said with a bit of a sigh, walking over to her work bench to get on with her experiments. She briefly wondered if she could replicate one of those brownies Theocelese had made, but decided to leave it as another reason to meet up with him again.
