Stark differences, yet Mitsuoki wouldn't go into any real detail about it. She couldn't tell if he was just trying to avoid delving into a conversation that would end up making her ask even more questions, of if it was actually some part of his duty to keep quiet about these things. Whatever the goal of his intentions, the lack of available information was only making her more curious in wanting to know the answers.
Shiro accepted Mitsuoki's thanks with a nod and the topic quickly turned to one about a fox loose in the store. So that's what the creature skittering about was? More interesting to Shiro however was how fast Mitsuoki seemed to gain an interest in the creature's whereabouts. For someone who was too duty-bound to answer questions about Soul Society, he was becoming unusually involved with matters that didn't seem to be part of his assigned jurisdiction.
"Um, sure I guess..." Shiro agreed with uncertainty, looking over Mitsuoki's shoulder to the store employee. They both appeared to be interested in catching this fox they were talking about. Shiro sighed. Why was it Mitsuoki looked more adamant about wanting to help a small wild animal, yet when it came to helping his own brethren he seemed disinterested and unwilling to get involved? She'd yield, for now. Mitsuoki couldn't be the only one. She'd have plenty of other opportunities to find ways into Soul Society. For now she would go on a baby fox catching hunt.
It was decided that the three would capture the baby fox, again. The worker had finished ringing them up before going to lock the doors and switch the sign to say that the place was temporarily closed. The worker had gone to the break room and returned with a few strips of chicken from her salad, which would serve as bait. A ladder was also provided so they could tie a string from the roof to the bag that, when pulled, would close the trap and keep the small creature inside. Mitsuoki had taken a spot that was reasonably far out of the way and the cashier had gone with him. Shiro was given the string to pull and reminded by the cashier that it might take a while for it to take the bait, if it takes it at all.
With the lights off and everyone waiting for the fox to go in the trap, skittering could be heard from time to time. Mitsuoki continued peeking over the counter to keep an eye on the bag, waiting for the tiny thing to enter it. Once it was in and Shiro had pulled the string, Mitsuoki would vault over the counter and make his way over to the bag to look inside. "This is a fox?" he would ask while looking down at the extremely tiny, furry and cute animal. As expected, it would be extremely scared and having Mitsuoki, who was considerably larger than it was, peeking over it just after it was capture wasn't helping anything. "It is quite cute... We should make haste to reunite it with its family." he said shortly after.

Sure she hadn't expected the thing to immediately take their bait but... nearly forty-five minutes later the stubborn baby fox finally took the bait, entering the bag to munch on the goodies inside. Shiro drew the string and the critter started crying and struggling inside the closed up bag.
The store employee flipped the lights back on and the two approached Mitsuoki, first to leap out, and was already holding onto and opening the bag to peer inside at the terrified critter. "Wait, you seriously didn't know what a fox was?" Shiro had assumed the Shinigami had been joking when he'd said it initially. Just how rarely did Mitsuoki actually frequent the human world if he didn't even know what a fox was?
"I wonder if it has a family." Shiro blurted out the words before thinking about the heavy atmosphere those words might bring with them. "I mean... why is it seeking out this place if it's just a baby? Doesn't really feel right..." Shiro attempted a recovery of her prior statement, not wanting to look like the negative one out of the three people present. Peering into the bag over Mitsuoki, Shiro couldn't help but be taken aback by how cute the thing actually looked. It's so cute! She thought to herself, though an odd girly sigh of appreciation for the animal inside the bag still escaped from her. "We should see if we can find it's family." Shiro earnestly suggested. She was interested in helping it reunite now that she'd seen it cowering inside the bag.
After thanking the employee for allowing them to help, Shiro took the purchases and proceeded to push Mitsuoki outside. She could have sworn Mitsuoki was being mind controlled by the thing. In all honesty Shiro wasn't even sure where to begin looking for the fox's family at. They were presently in the middle of town and as far as she could guess, animals like this one didn't typically loiter around the area. "Let's try the park."
The park served no better in locating the critter's parents. Looking in all the places she could find, Shiro could not find anything that would suggest a group of foxes lived here. Sitting down on one of the park's many benches, Shiro let out a long breath. "We're probably far enough from the shop. Do you think maybe it can find it's family if we let it go free?" She wasn't sure why she was even asking the question. Mitsuoki didn't actually know anything about the creatures or their habbits in the first place.
Mitsuoki had blinked a couple times while looking at Shiro with somewhat inquisitive eyes when she had asked if he truly didn't know what vixens were. She had quickly switched focus to the fox, questioning if it had a family at all. Her logic had been explained, as she saw an issue with the fact that there was a random baby animal, inside a human store, seeking shelter. The two had agreed on the notion that they should at least try and find its family, and Shiro had gone to thank the clerk and grab their items. "Shiro, if I may, I believe it would be best to leave our items here for the time being." He looked to the clerk and said "If it is not too great an inconvenience." The clerk had offered to store their items in the back room, where only she was able to gain access to. Mitsuoki had opted to leave his blankets in there and would not judge Shiro at all if she decided to keep her clothes on hand.
Mitsuoki was quite insistent on holding the bag with the fox in it and carried it from the bottom, like a box. Occasionally while walking, he would look down to see the small animal trying its best to keep its balance. While Mitsuoki had virtually no expression on the outside, one could easily draw a smiley face on him and it would not be that far from the reality of the situation. "I did not wish to say this in the store, Shiro; but, I do not know much of the fauna of your world. I am well acquainted with commonplace animals such as cats, dogs, avians, and certain rodent sub species... but I do not actively take time to learn all of what there is- not even in the soul society." he said.
When they arrived at the park, Shiro had helped Mitsuoki in searching nearby locations for signs of foxes. Mitsuoki was looking for anything that looked like it belonged to an animal, that he could use to begin tracking it down. Neither had found any signs of appropriate life and Shiro had taken a seat at a bench. Mitsuoki had taken a seat next to her, giving her a reasonably amount of room so as to not invade her personal space. She had asked if he thought the fox would be okay if we let it go, to which Mitsuoki said "I do not wish to do that." He looked in the bag and his eyes had softened greatly while staring at the fox that was looking back up at him. "I can understand if you wish to leave, Shiro. I will linger and continue searching." he said in a much less cold tone than usual.
Mitsuoki put his hand in the bag and heard a distinct growling that was adorably high pitched and completely non threatening. Suddenly, he felt something latch onto his finger and when he pulled his hand out the bag with a curious expression, the fox pup was attached. The fox let go and began choking on how bad the gigai's skin tasted, or rather, that it didn't taste how it had expected. It was likely expecting a fleshy taste, but instead, got a very synthetic one. "I apologize, little creature. I did not expect to be made into a snack, so I did not get the model with flavored flesh." Mitsuoki said, naturally joking about such a gigai existing. The fox made its way to a nearby faucet that people commonly used for their pets to get a quick drink and children to wash their hands, and began licking the end of the tap. Mitsuoki gently pushed it back a bit and turned the faucet on, holding it there to let the animal wash its mouth. The fox had growled at him before hesitantly sticking its snout in the water and letting it run over its teeth and tongue to get the distinctly terrible flavor out of its mouth.
Mitsuoki let it finish before grabbing it by the scruff of its neck and lifting it, growling and ruffling its tail. He held his other hand out and took a seat again, next to Shiro if she was still there. "You are a noisy one, are you not?" he said while looking at it. The fox was so incredibly small that it could fit perfectly on his hand, but was old enough to know how to defend itself, though, lacked the jaw strength to do so effectively. It was clearly the runt of the litter, which was a concept that Mitsuoki didn't know about when it came to other animals. "You are alone... where are your parents, tiny one?" he asked in rhetoric. Mitsuoki raised his free hand over the animal's head, ignoring the warning growl it was giving, and began running two of his fingers across the top of its head. Slowly, the growling was replaced by silence and the fox's ears had lowered and it looked down at Mitsuoki's palm sadly. "Do not be concerned. I will aid you, if it is within my capabilities." It was as though the fox actually understood him. Its ears slightly perked up, but not by much, and its tail had made a single swishing motion while it looked at him with a fearful expression. "Alright, let us begin again." he said and stood up, beginning to head back towards the store they just left. If Shiro was present, he would say "I, too find it strange that this one was inside a store, and not the streets. It is possible that its parents were taking shelter in the back alley. If that is so, she may be able to track them from there."

Shiro agreed to leaving their things at the store. It simply wasn't practical to take everything with them while carrying the fox around.
"I guess that makes sense." Mitsuoki's explanation of his lacking knowledge about the human world made sense. At least from the point of view that he was here mostly as a means to perform his duties.
Shiro frowned at Mitsuoki's disinterest in letting the creature go and find its family on its own. Despite the obvious space the Shinigami had given her, Shiro scooched right up next to him and put her face over the bag to look at the fox just as he did. "If you're staying, I'm staying. Besides I think the little guy deserves to be reunited with his family." A heavier than intended air filtered through Shiro's words as she spoke. Unlike Shiro, this little critter still had a family it could go to and be with at night. In some ways she envied the poor thing.
"Ah! What are you doing!?" Shiro protested upon noticing Mitsuoki reaching into the bag. Even she knew better than to aggravate a wild animal when it was lost, scared, and hopelessly separated from others of its kind. Momentarily forgetting that Mitsuoki was using a borrowed body, she hadn't realized that it could in fact be a true and honest fake. A construction designed to hold his spirit?
The aggressiveness of the animal didn't seem to bother Mitsuoki much, and he even took it over to wash its mouth out... was the taste of human flesh really that bad?
"Ah! Why didn't I think of that!" Shiro jumped up from the bench to follow Mitsuoki and the fox. "If they've been living in the city then maybe the alley is where they get most of their food from." Still, it seemed a bit sad that a family of foxes would choose to live in a place filled with trash cans. Food might be readily available by that means in the city but she couldn't picture herself sifting through garbage in order to obtain her meals...
Mitsuoki and Shiro had went to the back alley with the fox being held in his hand. When they arrived, the fox's ears stood up and it began sniffing the air. "It seems that she recognizes the area." Mitsuoki said before lowering his hand to the ground to let the fox move around and get a better lock on the proper scent. She moved around, sniffing things here and there before moving to new spots. Meanwhile, Mitsuoki had questioned if he should ask her about her activities in Hueco Mundo. He slowly followed behind the fox while pondering the idea. She was acquainted with Theoclese, but he was unsure of the nature of their relationship; and, more importantly, he and Theoclese were nothing more than acquaintances at the most. He didn't trust Theoclese, but at the same time he didn't have any reasons to distrust him to the point of hostility. He was wary of the arrancar, but also respected him and treated the man the same as he treated the other kidoshu members. So, he couldn't really bring it up and claim to be his friend as a way of starting a conversation about it...
The fox had exited the alley and went out to the sidewalk with Mitsuoki following closely behind, keeping an eye on her. Luckily, there weren't many people around as of yet. Around the corner, over a fence and through someone's backyard, to some place a kilometer away she went. Mitsuoki had no issues with following, the thorn bush behind the fence was a bit of an inconvenience, but he was able to push off the fence to get past that.
The fox had lead them to a woodland area with a great deal of bushes, shade, and places for foxes to make their dens that were well hidden. The baby fox had ran into a hole under a tree and immediately ran out, yelping at another fox that was snapping at it. Two more foxes came out that were noticeably bigger than her, each growling at her. She backed up and lowered her ears before slowly approaching the much larger, female one. It grabbed her by the back of her neck with its teeth and moved her further back, dropping her ungracefully before turning her back and going back in the hole. The fox had laid down with its ears flat and began whimpering, and Mitsuoki looked at it with a soft expression. "You were too weak to be accepted... and so, you were cast out." he said in a disheartened tone. He knew that pain. There was only two people who accepted him when he was weak, and even now that he's stronger, that weakness he had is his legacy, so many still reject him. "I understand now why you were in that store; but, it will lead to your death. Many humans are cruel, and the city is the easiest place to find them. Do all you can to survive, young fox." Mitsuoki looked to Shiro and said that they should return to the store to grab their stuff, and that there was nothing more they could do.

"You think so?" Sure enough, Shiro observed the creature from a position behind Mitsuoki. She could see that the little fox was indeed sniffing and looking around to some degree of familiarity.
When the creature took off, Shiro and Mitsuoki both took off following it. "I think he figured out where his family is!" Shiro whispered excitedly in Mitsuoki's ear, keeping pace with the Shinigami as they tailed the little beast. What seemed to be a longer trip than should have been, especially for such a small critter, they finally ended up within a wooded area, beyond the confines of someone's backyard that they'd needed to bypass in their continued efforts of keeping up with the baby fox. "So this is where his family is?" She'd expected a place outside the city and that seemed to be exactly what it was. Shiro looked around the forested outskirts of town they were now within. It did seem like an ideal location where a family of foxes would take up residence. So then why had the little guy ended up so far inside of town she wondered.
Her questioning thoughts were answered when the fox entered a hole but was quickly booted out by two others. The scene before her and Mitsuoki's words to the fox touched a nerve with Shiro. She could feel her heart twisting, hurting. That the unreasonable struggle this fox child was being forced to deal with should even be possible made Shiro unexpectedly feel for the creature. His circumstances were not the same as hers... She'd had and lost a caring family, one she loved deeply. While this poor fella had been outright rejected by his own family simply because he had been born smaller, weaker than the rest.
Mitsuoki's goal of reuniting the fox with its family now finished, suggested they leave and return to the store. Shiro couldn't understand why but... She felt for a moment that, what she perceived as the Shinigami's sudden switch towards heartlessness, wasn't right. "Is that it then...? We just leave him here and hope he doesn't kill himself by continuing to enter the city?" Sure his rescue of the little fox had seemed out of character to Shiro, but to suddenly switch it off and just return? Maybe she should have let it be and allowed nature to run its course. But being able to survive or die trying was an unfortunate truth of the world she lived in. One that most inhabitants, sometimes even humans, would never be able to avoid no matter how hard they tried.
Despite her feelings, adopting a wild animal would not be a thing society would permit. There were laws in place that barred people from doing such things. There was honestly no way Shiro could help the thing either. With how barren and desolate, not to mention dangerous, Hueco Mundo was... There was no way she could bring herself to subject the creature to that sort of environment, even if it were within the confines of the more hospitable fortress of Las Noches...
With a sullen expression, Mitsuoki said "I assure you, I am not trying to be cruel." Mitsuoki turned away from the fox and said "I know how she feels. I am among the weakest of my peers. An adjective constantly used to describe me is 'useless' and 'out of place' because I'm not nearly as good at kido as the others. In any other unit, not being good with kido is fine. But my "squad" is the Kido Corps, it's our specialization. I have no other squad to go to. None of them have use for me because of my current reputation; so, I am stuck. But I cannot help her any further. There are times where we must abandon our--"
Mitsuoki stopped talking when he felt the fox standing on his foot before taking a seat and looking up at him with large, blue eyes. He looked down with his eyebrow twitching. "I cannot help you, little, cute thing." he forced himself to say. The fox's ears were lowered and it continued looking at him. His eye began twitching along with his eyebrow and it was clear that he was having a moral struggle.
Akatsuki: "You should take it in." Tasogare: "No, you should- Did you just say something I would tell him to do?" Akatsuki: "It's adorable Ta-chaaan! I can't tell him to kill thaaat!!!" Both Spirits: "Take the fox in."
Mitsuoki was trying to battle the fact that his mind and both of his spirits, for the first time in history, were all on the same page. However, there were many moral issues with taking a living creature and spiritualizing it just for the sake of making it a pet. There were issues with soul reapers owning pets. There were issues with his roommates all being snitches. Mitsuoki bent over and picked up the fox, holding it against his chest with one arm. "I will think more on how to proceed while we venture to retrieve our belongings." he said in a slightly annoyed tone. The source of his annoyance was the fact that he and his spirits were in agreeance, and for once, he was honestly contemplating going with the clearly wrong choice. "While I'm thinking about it... Shiro, you addressed her as a male several times. This fox is female. " he said. If Shiro had asked if he was sure, he would inform her that the fox was clearly a mammal, and was lacking two very important reproduction growths on her lower anterior section, between her thighs.

Mitsuoki proceeded to explain himself to Shiro, detailing how he and the fox were similar, while simultaneously referring to how he was unable to do anything further for the creature. That was until the thing approached him and he either consciously, or without realizing it, picked the baby fox up. It didn't seem to retain its earlier aversions as it allowed Mitsuoki to pick it up without so much as a growl. What confused Shiro however was the difference in the Shinigami's actions and the tone of his voice. His body seemed willing to further help the fox, but for some reason his speech sounded annoyed by it.
"No way that can't be right! How can you even be certain?" Shiro argued to Mitsuoki's claim that the fox pup was female. She'd been absolutely sure the thing was a boy with how daring it had been to enter a store. And then to Bite Mitsuoki the way it had... there was no way, right?
Shiro's face flushed a deep shade of red when Mitsuoki explained, and then showed Shiro the fox's lack of associative assets. "I-I knew that! Don't show me stuff like that! Jeez!" Shiro lied, covering her face with her hands. The creature may have been a fox but the girl couldn't help but feel a deep sense of shame wash over her at Mitsuoki's unwitting reveal of the creature's private area. She'd never owned a pet nor handled animals on a regular basis before. She'd simply run with an assumption of the critter's gender solely based on the fact that, to her, everything was male if it hadn't first been identified upon their initial meeting. It was a common gender association mistake most humans tended to make when first encountering a new animal.
Mitsuoki binked a couple times with a slightly confused look in his eyes while Shiro had acted as though seeing the animal's identifier location. He didn't really understand why it was an issue, much the way he didn't understand why his roommates turned red while looking at pictures of undressed women-- he lacked the emotional and mental capacity to process lewdness, mostly the emotional capacity.
While walking back to the store, Mitsuoki had held the fox up, turned around so he could look at its face while pouting. "Hmmmm..." he said, looking it in the eyes. The fox's ears were lowered and it nervously avoided meeting his gaze. "You are clearly afraid of me, but are willing to set that aside for the sake of potential survival." he commented after analyzing the reaction. He began mumbling under his breath "I suppose you are small enough to be easily concealed... but you will inevitably grow." as though honestly contemplating ignoring rules. "Living amongst humans, you have likely been eating similar food to what they consume. I could share my meals..." he continued. "But how to transport you..." he questioned while looking at it with a puzzled look. The fox looked at him for a brief second before looking away again and giving its tail a gentle flicker. "I suppose 'he' could help. He's commonly circumventing rules, so I do not think he would mind doing it once more. Though, I suppose I could use a modified version of my spell to do the same thing..." Mitsuoki naturally switched the man's name for his gender identifying adverb.
By the time they had arrived at the store, Mitsuoki had mumbled enough things to be able to accurately say that he had created an entire plot with three contingencies and a "plan E, F, and G" just in case he needed it. When they walked in with the fox, the clerk had looked confused and said "You didn't find her family?" to which Mitsuoki said "Her family disowned her, so I will take her in." The worker hadn't questioned it since Mitsuoki looked like he wouldn't accept any rational argument.
In the back room, Mitsuoki had set the fox down on a table where she sat and continuously looked at Mitsuoki before looking at the table and repeating. The reaper had picked up the briefcase from earlier and said "Shiro, this is for you." calmly. "Where you are going can be quite cold at times, you will need this." He set the briefcase down in front of Shiro and gave a small bow. "It is my way of thanking you for your help today. Oh, and please give my regards to Theoclese." he said calmly. He took his bags and held his hand out for the fox to get on it, which she did, and he left the room.

"It's probably because you show off her private places without an ounce of shame." Shiro retorted to Mitsuoki's concern of the fox's fear, still blushing from the incident. "Women are not objects to be ogled, you should show some respect." Though Mitsuoki seemed to be genuinely distracted, Shiro still crossed her arms to scold the Shinigami. The girl let out a sigh of frustration, her arms falling back to her sides as she hung her head. Mitsuoki's focus was so much in tune with the fox, she highly doubted her words of reprimand were reaching him at this point.
"He?" Shiro muttered to herself at Mitsuoki's words. Apparently the only he in their group right now was him... unless he was referring to someone else? Shiro didn't ask. Mitsuoki's business was his own. It wasn't her place to pry, at least that seemed to be the way Mitsuoki played it with his denial of otherwise readily available information.
Shiro waved to the employee as they made their way to the backroom to retrieve their things. "Take her in? how exactly do you plan on doing that when you can't take anything with you without killing it?" The girl asked before Mitsuoki offered her his briefcase. "Where I'm going...? But it's not cold outside..." What did he mean by that? There was no way he could know her place of residence was cold unless... Shiro's face flushed in horrified realization. Did this mean he'd actually observed her coming through to the human world earlier? "Thank you." Shiro bowed, graciously accepting the briefcase. For now she would play at ignorance. Or rather she wanted to but the name Mitsuoki spouted shattered any intentions she had of pretending not to know as to what Mitsuoki was referring.
"...Might I ask as to how you came to know that... name?" Shiro asked, slowly, quietly returning to a standing position. Shiro couldn't recall Mr. Rose having mentioned anything about being enemies of Soul Society, but she did know he'd warned her about using the name Theocelese out and in the open like this. If he proved to be an enemy of Theocelese she wouldn't hesitate to dispatch him here and now.
In the doorway with fox and bags in hand, Mitsuoki paused at the sound of her words. They were slower than normal and contained a degree of caution. It would seem that Theoclese hadn't told Shiro of his activities outside of Hueco Mundo. Mitsuoki could also tell from her degree of caution that he had obviously told her to avoid showing connections to the world of hollows, or something similar, since she had tried to play coy when Mitsuoki commented on it. It would seem that his next choice of words would determine whether the store would become a battleground or he would be able to leave peacefully. That is, they would if he didn't take time to create a very specific set of kido. "You can relax, Shiro." he said calmly, with not a single drop of fear in his tone. "I knew where you came from and who you are acquainted with because of the spirit energy still on your clothes from being around them so much... That, and I saw your arrival. Were he and I on negative terms with each other, we would not be here. Regardless, it seems I have worn out my welcome. Begone from here, and extinguish my flame-" just like that, Mitsuoki, the fox, and the bags had all disappeared entirely in a puff of light blue spirit particles. In his room, Mitsuoki appeared saying "Bakido twenty, Twenty One- Vanish and Mass Vanish." to complete the casting of the two spells.

Shiro blinked, dumbstruck surprise playing over her face. Mitsuoki's rushed explanation hung in the air even as his physical body, the assortment of colorful frilly sheets, and even the baby fox vanished into thin air. The door was closed, He couldn't have stepped his way out of the backroom... So some form of teleportation then? "He... ran away..." Shiro uttered in disbelief, trying to comprehend the Shinigami's reaction. If he really was an acquaintance of Theo's and they were on speaking terms, why then had he felt the need to flee?
Without even leaving the store, Shiro made her way back to the entrance of Las Noches via the same method she'd arrived in the Human world with. She felt a little sorry for the store's employee who would come to check on Shiro, Mitsuoki, and the fox in the backroom a bit later when they didn't return. He would likely be very confused and panic when he found no one there.
All together Shiro believed the day had been eventful. She'd hold off asking Theocelese about Mitsuoki. If he was there in the human world regularly on duty, the girl would likely have another chance to encounter him. Maybe then she could confront him about why he'd been willing and able to take the fox but not her.
