How many years had it been since he'd found this place, The sun was still out but the park area still seemed slightly busy. Not that much though. A human there a human here. One sat next to him on the bench he occupied but seemed not to notice his presence. "Funny... to think they sit so near without fear." The hollow sighed. "If only they knew I were here..." Staring down at his faux illusion of a body, wondered what the humans would think if they could see him. Sure his appearance was mostly human but no matter how he tried he couldn't seem to do away with the oddities. His furry wolf-like ears and equally fluffy wolf tail which seemed to move all too realistically, a dead giveaway that he was something other than human.
The dogs seemed to be able to see him though, he noted with some irritation as the dog belonging to the woman beside him started growling at him, the hairs on its back bristling in fear. "I'm sure you'd be cowering in total fear right now if it weren't for me hiding my presence right now." He snarled at the beast, his owner attempting unsuccessfully to console the creature.
Being unable to calm her dog, the woman got up and left, carrying the small poodle in her arms as it continued to stare with mean eyes at the hollow who remained seated. He enjoyed the views better when the pets didn't take notice of him, choosing to observe from a further, more hidden position up and away from the interactions that went on within the park itself. This park in particular had a soothing effect on the old hollow, as well as doubling as a good place for him to obtain a good hollowlishious snack.
She'd seen it. Had to confirm. No human smelled like this. Kara knelt beneath a bush, arms readied around a branch she'd taken from one of the park's apple trees. The person in question seemed to be conversing with a lady's dog, though she seemed not to pay any mind. Instead she complained to her dog about its rowdiness before getting up with it and walking away.
Kara glanced around. The park was rather silent in this moment. She waited, only a few people passed by in several moments. She'd learned a great deal about human reactions. They didn't much seem to like whenever she went out on her hollow hunts, throwing fits and running around like scared ants. She chalked it up to their being able to see her but not being able to see that which she fought against. Oh well, she had no real interest in holding up appearances if it meant she could sate her uncontrollable hunger for Hollow.
The coast was clear, the person on the bench seemed not to notice her presence. Good. It favored her to get in a surprise attack. The next instant Kara flew from the bush as fast as her legs could take her, branch loaded with apples raised high and ready to strike.
Their unbridled hunger pulled weaker, instinctual, Hollow to the Human's realm. Whether wounded or ripe with strength they remained ever persistent. Naruki posed an excellent hunting ground for strong and weak Hollow alike. With dark streets towering constructs and old buildings there were many places to seclude oneself. However, one couldn't completely erase their presence. Predatory senses aided Gabby in tracking Hollow, while avoiding stronger ones and Soul Reapers when possible. Having been downwind, she, along with Kara, carefully followed the scent. Hollow were creatures who also had enhanced senses, although that depended on their type. Though unsure what type she was tracking, there was a beastly scent but couldn't place what kind. Hollow always smelled strange.
An overhead building hidden from lights gave Gabby a good vantage point. She laid down, keeping only the bare tip of her head and eyes peeked out. The Hollow was nearby but where? Dogs across the street growled, obviously upset by the youth sitting next to the elder. Though she couldn't readily make out the ears and tail the Hollow was definitely in that direction, and a nearby Kara was ready to pounce. Having spent a long time with Kara Gabby already knew how she prowled when on the hunt, and had an idea on her precise location based on hearing and scent.
Nadezhda jumped. Not out of surprise or concern for his own safety, but rather to swiftly and efficiently duck behind the bench as the tree branch came crashing down where he'd been sitting. "Keh- Meddlesome little..." Nadezhda's currently female tones escaped his mouth, watching as the pink-haired girl came crashing into the bench with a branch? Was this girl dumb? Did she think he hadn't seen her hiding in the bushes waiting for an opportunity to pounce? Still, he didn't sense anything inherently Hollow about her, nor did she seem to belong to Soul Society. No her energies were different, she didn't even smell human. Nadezhda gave her no chance to dip around the bench for a second attack, instead he jumped back, opting to retreat into the bushes behind the bench before launching himself up into a nearby tree. "What's your deal girl! I've no quarrel with you." He projected, Sitting on a sturdy branch while grasping another with a hand to steady his position. He could feel his form slipping. Even if she wasn't strong by comparison, any distractions intended to provoke a rise out of him tended to interfere with the illusion he constantly maintained. For now he managed to retain his feminine form, though he kind of wondered how brave these girls would be once the illusion faded. He shot a glance to one of the nearby buildings and smiled a toothy grin.
Kara's branch came down. She watched what should have been a decisive hit fall harmlessly upon an empty bench. She was fast, fast enough she should have been able to land that blow. But this hollow's reactions seemed to be faster than hers. She grimaced in irritation at her failed surprise attack, ducking behind the bench to land a second blow that would hopefully land this time. No sooner than she'd moved to ready her second attack did the hollow leap up out of the bushes and into one of the trees above.
It spoke? This hollow could speak!? Kara pondered the reasoning behind it for only a moment in surprise before steadying herself upon the bench. She wouldn't let her prey get away, not while it was here and able to be hunted. "I'm hungry. You're food." Kara stated bluntly, not that she needed to explain herself to her food. In fact she was so confident in her capacity to hunt this new target that just the thought of speaking to the hollow didn't make sense. "Food doesn't talk." Kara retorted, ignoring the hollow's words and simultaneously responding to her own thoughts. Raising the branch again, Kara made ready to jump into the tree the hollow sat mocking her from.
Mitsuoki was sitting on a bench next to a gigai that looked exactly like himself, both watching over a park of humans while wasting time during a fetch quest. On the other side of the park, the gigai had spotted a woman sitting on a bench next to a barking dog that looked like it would easily die in the wild with its absurd fur. "Hey, check that out... Chick's got some funky growths." the gigai said, to which Mitsuoki replied "Oh? How curious... I did not know that humans could have such appendages." Of course, Mitsuoki had doubts that they were real. He didn't know anything about cosplayers or the fact that faux ears and tails existed, so his assumption were that the girl was either someone using an illusion, or someone who was honestly half-wolf-half-human. He didn't have enough information to label Nadezhda as a hollow, so he hadn't yet drawn that conclusion.
"You wanna check it out?" the gigai asked with a chewy stick candy half sticking out of his mouth. "To be completely honest, I desire to know how soft that woman's ears are." Mitsuoki admitted. It was one of many things he would never let anyone know... He liked soft and fluffy things. He also liked small and cute things, and the girl was small and cute; but the girl looked human- so he had no inclinations to touch her.
The two had begun combat and even destroyed the park bench that the girl with ears had been sitting on. In the midst of their conversation, Mitsuoki had picked up on the fact that no one else in the park had noticed the girl with ears let him know that she was a spiritual being like himself. They did, however, notice the pink haired one. Mitsuoki's gigai had moved to take a seat on the broken bench and Mitsuoki had stood next to him, both chewing on the linear strawberry flavored candy. Just as the pink haired girl was preparing to jump, Mitsuoki, the soul reaper one, had said "Excuse me, Miss... May I touch your ears? I desire to know if they are real or an illusion of sorts." before sticking another piece of the Zwizzler in his mouth and chewing it. Shortly after, the gigai, being possessed by an abnormal soul candy (more abnormal than the already eccentric ones), said "Yo, pinkette... Should let ya know that ya dun scared a couple humans. Ya kinda look weird since it looks like your attackin' an empty patch of air, ya know? If your hungry, I don't mind sharin' summa my candy." just before shaking the pack of Zwizzlers. The soul candy was inhabiting a gigai that looked exactly like Mitsuoki, except wearing considerably more formal, western style clothes.
Just when he'd decided to lead the girl on a chase and follow up by teaching the foolish Mod Soul a lesson about picking fights she couldn't win, two others decided to butt into the festivities. A quick glance at the robes of one and the old Hollow immediately picked up on the fact he was a Shinigami. The other one? He looked the same as the first but his energies felt similar to that of the pink haired girl...
Nadezhda wasn't sure whether to relieved or disturbed by the Shinigami's interest in touching his ears. "What a peculiar thing for a Shinigami to ask." The hollow's illusion, free of the disturbances caused by Kara's earlier assault, produced a twisted smile to Mitsuoki's words. A sweet but mature feminine voice drifted down from the tree. It was all part of the illusion. One he intended to keep up should the Shinigami continue to be ignorant and fail to realize the one he was speaking to was in fact a hollow. "Sorry, but no. I would much prefer you leave my ears, and my tail alone." He responded to the Shinigami's inquiry, his tail making a large swishing motion as it moved from one side of the tree branch to the other.
Disregarding the illusion he projected, Nadezhda did in fact have a real set of ears and a tail, though it was unlikely the Shinigami would want to pet or touch them when he realized to which kind of creature they truly belonged...
Kara jumped, though the sudden and unexpected voices caused her to flop into the bushes behind the broken bench instead of up and into the tree the hollow had escaped to. "My name is Kara!" The Mod Soul argued once she'd pulled herself back out of the bushes, small bits of the bushes clung to the girl's hair and clothes. The branch became lost within the bushes and Kara didn't care enough to retrieve it. Instead opting to stand in front of the Gigai, holding out her hands to accept the man's handout. All of this the Mod Soul did despite the Shinigami's obvious presence. Though she felt uneasy with him around he hadn't yet made any attempts to capture or kill her. Kara took the lure and accepted the Zwizzlers. She quickly retreated to not less than five meters away and began enjoying her treat, biting into the elastic chewiness of the fruity flavored candy.
"Uwah! Berries!" Kara cooed, the flavor of the candy filling her mouth. She quickly shoved the rest of the candy into her mouth and returned to the Gigai for some more. "Thesh are vewy goof (These are very good)" Kara slurred through a mouthful of candy as her hands eagerly sought out a second helping of handouts.
Mitsuoki had caught on to the fact that the woman had known that he was a soul reaper, as well as the distinct tone in her voice. His request to touch her ears was diclined, which, admittedly, was a disappointment. He looked at the movement of the tail and how natural it seemed to be. If it were an illusion, it was a damn good illusion. At the same time, he had noticed that the pink haired woman had taken the snack from his gigai and immediately backed up to give herself a considerable amount of range, easily out of Mitsuoki's striking range with a great deal of spare room.
The gigai had opened up his mouth while breaking off another two strands of his Zwizzlers and putting them in her hand and asked "So, pinkette-" which is when Mitsuoki interrupted him and said "She said her name was Kara. You must earn the right to assign others nicknames." The mod soul replied "Right... I'll remember that." Mitsuoki turned to the mod soul and looked at her with cold eyes. "You there, Kara." he said, addressing her directly. His tone was every bit as cold as his gaze, but at the same time, it was emotionless. Mitsuoki bowed respectfully to her and said "I am Mitsuoki, this is Thirty Seven. Please refrain from inquiring his choice of nomenclature, I am yet to have a reason provisioned." The gigai gave a gentle 'hello' hand wave and a light smile when his name was said. If Kara was paying attention, she would notice that Mitsuoki used her name, and not addressing her as an object. "I wish to inquire why it is that you engaged this strange woman in combat?"
If Kara had mentioned that Nadezhda was a hollow, Mitsuoki would reach into his kimono and pull out a package of Zwizzlers of his own and pull another piece. He would stick it in his mouth and begin chewing it while holding the rest of the packet, all of it, out to Kara as a means of thanking her. He had eaten the one piece to prove that the contents weren't poisoned, since, no one would logically poison themselves. He'd then turn to the hollow with the same cold expression he had when addressing Kara. "That illusion of yours is impressive, nameless hollow. I am now further intrigued. You have been here long enough to have had many viable targets, and I was hiding my spiritual pressure the entire time. Why is it that you did not attack? Was it that you knew Kara was behind you and did not wish to reveal yourself? Or another reason?" Assuming this situation played out, Nade would be able to notice that Mitsuoki didn't have his hand on his sword at all.
Kara accepted the pieces from thirty seven, quickly adding them to the pile of candy already stuffed into her mouth. She waved a greeting in acknowledgment to the two of them when Mitsuoki announced their names to the distracted Mod Soul. The candy was good, but slow to be chewed. She'd noticed the Shinigami's use of her name but it didn't much matter to her. As long as she could identify that the person who spoke was talking to her and not being rude about it she didn't really care what they called her. "Thirty Seven? what does Thirty Seven stand for?" Kara looked to thirty seven with the question, choosing to ignore the fact that the Shinigami had been the one talking and informing her of the Gigai's name.
Kara's eyes hesitantly shifted to Mitsuoki with the question directly expecting an answer from her. To which Kara turned to point up at Nadezhda bluntly stating; "It's a Hollow. Hollow are food. I was going to eat it and be full."
Kara's eyes shifted back to Mitsuoki when he pulled out the same candies Thirty Seven had, taking a couple strands before offering her the package. Kara stared up at Mitsuoki for a brief moment trying to guess the intentions behind his gesture before snatching the Zwizzlers package and retreating to partake. Unlike the first time, the Mod Soul retreated only about five meters before stuffing most of the package's contents into her mouth.
Nadezhda watched the scene before him with divided interest. His distraction derived from a thought process weighing whether or not this place could still be a decent hunting ground or not. With a Shinigami nearby the chances were that answer would be no. He was about to dip out, leaving the Shinigami, his mod soul and the strange pink haired one to their own devices when he caught the tail-end of her pointing up to him, completely and utterly blowing his cover.
"You little..." Nadezhda growled. He'd managed to trick or hide his presence from the Shinigami but for some annoying reason the pink girl decided it was okay to blow his cover, almost as if she didn't care one way or the other. He hadn't expected her to protect his identity, but the way in which she'd bluntly identified him irritated Nadezhda for some reason.
"Targets?" The old hollow turned his questioning gaze upon Mitsuoki. "What targets? Are you perhaps referring to the countless weak and pathetic humans roaming around here carelessly exposing themselves like lost sheep?" Nadezhda scoffed at Mitsuoki. It figured that all Shinigami thought the same way about him. "Let me tell you something Shinigami" The tones of Nadezhda's feminine voice dimmed as a portion of his true, deeper, darker voice bled through his illusion. "I am a hunter seeking sustenance to maintain myself. Weak fodder such as these humans are merely a means to an end for me. They are the bait which draws in my real quarry. And aside from being lures to a greater feast, I've no interest in these lesser creatures or what it is they do with themselves." Nadezhda held confidence enough to answer the Shinigami, if only for the fact he hadn't yet drawn his weapon.
Naturally, the gigai said nothing about its name, nothing at all. He gave a gentle smile and shrugged at the question. Mitsuoki had received an answer to his question, however, which was that the girl was actually a hollow. The hollow had in turn seemed annoyed that its cover was blown, and Mitsuoki had also gotten an answer to whether the ears were real or an illusion. The hollow lacked a mask in its current form. It could be a strange type of arrancar, but it also lacked a zanpakuto. So, the only remaining answer was that it was an illusion.
When asked about why it didn't attack the humans, the hollow sounded somewhat insulted that he would suggest the humans were worthy of her pallet. The hollow had told him that she was using them as bait to lure in other hollows, which were a 'greater feast' as she put it. "A hollow that comes to the world of the living to feast on other hollows. That is unique, as well as refreshing. I will have to adjust my opinion of your kind. However, this leaves me with yet another query for you. It is to my knowledge that the Menos Forest is full of other hollows, I have verified this in person. If I may be so bold as to ask... Is there a difference between those hollow and the ones who come here, that would make you choose this world to hunt?"
At the same time, thirty seven had turned his attention to Kara. "So, your vessel's adapted to eat hollows? That's pretty cool." he said. He gestured to Mitsuoki with his thumb and said "Mitsu's gigai only takes normal food, so I can't really chomp a hollow. Don't think he'd appreciate me doin it, even if this thing could." After a second or two, he also added in "Hey, just wonderin'... Are you one of those badass fighting mod souls? The ones that were specifically designed to fight hollows?"
"Stay your corrections Shinigami." Nadezhda laughed, retaining the mixed tones of the illusion in his voice. "Much of my brethren would sooner prove to you their pointlessly genocidal tendencies." The words rolled off Nadezhda's voice as if speaking in regards to a deadly poison. Bringing his stabilizing arm down, the Hollow allowed himself to flip backwards out of the tree to the ground below. As the hollow descended to the ground, the illusion barring all eyes from seeing his real form faded.
The image of a furry eared and tailed human girl swiftly replaced itself with that of an unusually large black wolf. From head to foot the beast stood nearly eight feet tall. The fur upon the entirety of it's body, while it appeared to be soft and flowing, was eerily wispy and almost ghostly. Sinews of seemingly glowing blue and purple hues could be seen drifting out from the beast's mouth. Similar hues swirled in ghostly fashion within what could only be described as shapeless eyes. Extending across the entirety of the Hollow's forehead, the distinct mask which all Hollows retained. Strange ancient looking symbols could also be seen engraved into its surfaces.
"While you may be correct in assuming so, I assure you the quarry which I truly seek has long since evacuated the forest of Menos. It is naught but filled with the pathetically weak and mindless souls who's only solace is in that of their hopeless gatherings." Nadezhda's voice, now freed from any illusion, thundered with a deep rolling echo which seemed to pierce and shake the very air around him. "The stirrings of this world have drawn the attentions of more powerful beings of late. It is they whom I seek to dine upon. Perhaps, in time, I will find the quarry to which my demonic hunger may finally come to an end..." Through the seemingly overwhelming aura of the Hollow's vocal capacity there drew a hint of sadness and exhaustion.
If Mitsuoki cared enough to notice, he would observe the bizarre stillness of the beast's opened mouth as he spoke his words out loud.
"Un!" Kara nodded at Thirty Seven's question about her ability to consume hollows. "Normal food tastes really good too but it isn't very filling." The Mod Soul added. She wanted to assure Thirty Seven that feeding her their candy wasn't a complete waste. Stuffing the rest of the Zwizzlers into her mouth, Kara nodded again. This time to Thirty Seven's second question about her fighting capacity. Pointing to Mitsuoki Kara was about to reveal how she'd killed Shinigami like him in the past but thought better of it. This one seemed friendly enough but she didn't want to give him any obvious reasons to capture and seek her destruction. With this thought in mind, Kara's extended pointing finger drifted over to the Hollow instead. "I've fought a lot of those and eaten them." Again, another rather blunt statement from a Mod Soul in possession of a strangely cute looking vessel.
Upon revealing its real form and speaking with Mitsuoki, Kara could finally see the hollow for what she knew it to be. A Hollow. Barring any further intervention, The Mod Soul would run passed Thirty Seven and Mitsuoki in an attempt to recklessly attack the Hollow where he stood. Kara was still hungry, and unfortunately fists would need to do as she did not posses a proper weapon to engage the hollow with.
The reply given was interesting. Nade had told Mitsuoki that any other hollow would readily attack him or any human in the area without restraint. It was something that Mitsuoki fully believed. His opinion of hollows hadn't changed so greatly that he would expect every hollow to be the same as she was. His opinion had simply changed to 'hollows are capable of restraining themselves, sometimes' and nothing greater.
Before his question could be answered, the hollow had let herself fall out of the tree and land on the ground in its true form. It was considerably larger, much older looking, and much less cute than before. It told Mitsuoki that the forest was filled only with the weakest of hollows, and the ones that he... she... it was after had long since left that place. It was during this time that he noticed Kara pointing at him and paused. This signaled Mitsuoki that she was hesitating for some reason, and he had begun half listening to the conversation that she and thirty seven were having. At the same time, he was half listening to the fact that the hollow had told him that this word had drawn in the better, more powerful hollows. There was some sadness in the hollow's tone when he commented that he awaited the say when he would no longer need to feast. Mitsuoki knew that hollows were perpetually hungry, so it didn't surprise him at all that he was awaiting that day.
Thirty seven was about to say how cool Kara was when she ran past him, charging at the hollow. Mitsuoki would say "Kyomon." and the air a few feet in front of Nadezhda would shimmer before an invisible wall was formed between the mod soul and soul reaper. "Kara, you had pointed to me first. I am to assume that you were originally going to admit to having killed soul reapers before." His eyes had been cold while addressing both of them, and they had remained that way. It made him unpredictable, and his unchanging tone didn't do him any justice. "However, I hold no issues with that." Thirty seven had looked at Mitsuoki with a confused expression, surprised that he didn't care about a mod soul that killed her creators. "I have read into your creation. Not you, specifically, but your kind in general. You were made to be inserted into human corpses, to reanimate them, to fight hollows like that one. When the research and development bureau finally grew a conscience, they ordered all of you to be destroyed, rather than simply ceasing production and having the existing ones fight hollows with gigai. Those soul reapers you killed were either attempting genocide, or attempting to capture you to continue the genocide. They reaped that which they have sown."
Mitsuoki had then turned his gaze to the hollow. "I find you to be intriguing, hollow. You are different from the ones that I have met, and are not consumed so greatly by your hunger that you would attack everything in sight. You are the exception to my list of beings that I wish to kill. This will be the first time I ask this to a hollow, without having already drawn my blade... What is your name?" Regardless of his answer, Mitsuoki would say "Kara, I formally request that you await the arrival of a different hollow. This one has the potential to become something greater, something that cannot even be called a hollow at all. The next hollow that shows up will undoubtedly be of the standard variety, feel free to have at that one. Just know that this one will also be going after it, most likely." Thirty seven was looking at Mitsuoki as though he were insane. He knew that he was a different flavor of soul reaper, but he didn't think that even Mitsuoki would refuse to strike down a hollow. Mitsuoki turned back to Nadezhda and said "Just so I am informed... Are you male or female? Your past and current form are very conflicting."
The first thing Kara noticed when she collided with Mitsuoki's Kyomon ability was the fact that she had in fact, for some reason, collided with what she could only perceive as an invisible wall. The Mod Soul rebounded off the wall, her hands shooting up to rub her face from the pain of where it'd collided. Since the wall didn't seem to be of the Hollow's doing she quickly turned to Mitsuoki to complain and argue about why he'd blocked her from attacking the hollow. This had been her intent but she stopped short, her mouth opened to form the first word when Mitsuoki turned cold eyes on her. The words of the Shinigami that followed, filled Kara with a sense of danger she hadn't felt in a long time. He knew! He knew what she was and what she'd done! Her mind quickly reverted to its baser fight or flight mode but this too became quelled with the Shinigami's next words. Words that assured the Mod Soul he had no interest in her dealings. He went as far as to judge the Shinigami in Kara's past as deserving of the effects of their own karma.
Kara was still on edge about Mitsuoki's discovering her, but as he made no further attempts to stall or apprehend her, she allowed herself to relax just a little bit. "I survived the murders. I am free now. I won't answer to those Reapers anymore!" Kara took a bold stance and asserted herself. She didn't apologize to Mitsuoki for the killing of Shinigami or for actively denying and fighting against the threat of her own destruction. She didn't feel like she needed to apologize for having killed in order to retain the life and freedom she now embraced. It was something she strongly felt was rightfully deserved.
"As I too toward you Shinigami. I have never once met a member of your kind so willing to talk, let alone bar another from attacking one such as I" Nadezhda chuckled, the deep echoing in his voice continuing to roll out into the air. He'd seen many things in his long life but to see a Shinigami force another to stay its hand against him, even though it was a creation of their own design which they'd formerly rejected... Very unusual. The old Hollow sighed. "Whether it may be considered an intelligent decision or not, I avoided the land of the living for many centuries. During the time in my past I was very much the same as these hollow you hate and continue to kill without questioning. Had we met then, I am certain your behavior towards me would have been no different than the others. Know this Shinigami, that the hunger we must face is an undeniable curse that afflicts us all. And while you are correct in assuming that I have control, it is but a temporary reprieve from the fear and insanity which still drives me to this day. It is the reason for which I must continue to play the role of hunter in this life."
"I have long since forgotten the name by which my master once addressed me." Nadezhda's voice seemed saddened and distant, as if the creature had taken an extended period of time to actually try and remember his own name. "What of you Shinigami. What would be your name that I might remember it." The hollow asked, the sadness and distance in his voice replaced by the simplest of curiosity.
Nadezhda watched the Mod Soul as she shied away. She seemed resistant to the Shinigami's suggestion of finding another Hollow. Resistant but hesitantly accepting of the Shinigami's reasonings.
"The image of my illusion is but a reflection of the memories I have retained in remembering the master to whom I once served." These and only these words did Nadezhda speak in response to the Shinigami's inquiry. A vague reference, one that failed on a fundamental level to answer the Shinigami's actual question.
The standard variety... Such were the words that escaped the Shinigami with whom Nadezhda conversed. How much more wrong could he have possibly been... Nadezhda should have fled back to Hueco Mundo right then and there when the intense and overpowering wave of oppressive spiritual pressure washed over them and the entire surrounding area. He'd even made to, his body reacting neigh automatically, rebounding as if to flee. But the old hollow paused. Though it was faint, vague, and almost distant, there was a sense of familiarity hidden deep within the oppressive aura. "This is..."
Mitsuoki would notice the Hollow leap forward, Heading towards the source of the oppressive aura rather than fleeing as would seemed to have been what the Hollow initially intended to do. Should he choose to follow the old Hollow, Mitsuoki would bear witness to what Nadezhda discovered.
He reached the area. Stood exactly where the owner of the monstrous spiritual pressure itself had been. What the old Hollow observed before himself defied all of his long life's accumulated knowledge. The aura he felt was clearly Hollow in origin. But the destruction before him looked to be as if from but a single attack that far exceeded anything a Hollow should be capable of...
He stood upon the threshold of one street. Not more than five meters ahead of him the clear-cut destruction of a powerful Cero beam began. It had etched its mark into the road and every single building on the block. Nadezhda could not fathom the grand scale of the destruction but if he'd been able to he would have said it was akin to an Arrancar's Gran Rey Cero... Unlike the Cero the hollow himself used or was familiar with, it seemed as if everything that this particular Cero had made contact with had been reduced to a molten mass of cinders. Even standing five meters away from the nearest points of destruction he could still feel the heat radiating from the attack.
One portion of a nearby building had continued to melt to the point that its metal frame finally gave way, causing a large chunk of stone and metal to break off, crashing into the road with a sickening thud before the heat of the road caused it to mold with it.
"What... is this..." Nadezhda stared down the devastated street in disbelief. The reasoning behind the form and manner of this destruction completely eluding him as he opted to sit on his hind quarters. Regardless of whatever familiarity he'd sensed, the old Hollow was gratefully relieved that, whoever the perpetrator was, they hadn't stuck around.
The hollow had no name. More specifically, it had forgotten what its name was, which was a disappointment. He had asked for Mitsuoki's name, to which the soul reaper said "I am Kumagai, Mitsuoki." while also thinking about how it would feel if he had forgotten that, along with everything else. The nameless hollow's response to Mitsuoki's other question left him with a blank expression, also thinking 'So this is how Shiro feels when I give her empty answers.'
Suddenly, their conversation had been interrupted with a ridiculously powerful spiritual pressure raining over the surrounding area. Mitsuoki had looked up casually, not showing any signs of being alarmed by the sudden interruption at all. The hollow said something before darting off after it, which had caused him to in turn dart off after the hollow to try and tell him that whatever the source of that pressure was, it was in a completely different league from him. When he caught up to him, they were looking at a red hot, smouldering, strip of land that was completely void of life or un-life. Back at the park, thirty seven had turned to Kara and said "Dammit Mitsu... You know I can't use shunpo... Screw it, I'm hanging back here." he then turned to Kara and asked "You goin after em?" If she said she wasn't going to, or admitted to also not having access to flash step, he'd ask "Sooo... What you wanna do? Stay here and wait for another hollow, or go hang out somewhere?"
Back at the crater, Mitsuoki had moved ahead of Nadezhda and kneeled down next to the glowing zone, opening his palm over it and closing his eyes. "One would have to be blind or green to not know this was a cero..." He began feeling the spiritual pressure left behind by the attack, focusing in one it. "This reiatsu is far beyond your own, it dwarfs that of any hollow I have come across... However, it does not feel the same as an arrancar. It is more feral, less 'together' than that of an arrancar." He began thinking for a second before saying "Spiritual pressure that is beyond that of a captain... This is either an abnormally powerful and insane arrancar, or it is a Vasto Lordes. Or, it is both."
Mitsuoki let out a breath of air and stood up, looking at Nadezhda with a focused expression. "I will tell you this about me, hollow. I do not hate your kind. I do not hate quincies. I do not hate bounts. I do not hate mod souls. I am not blinded by the lies and dogma of the soul society, nor do I care for any order that contradicts my honor. I kill hollows because they are in pain, and they cannot be reasoned with. After such a large burst of spiritual pressure and this level of destruction, the soul society will dispatch a unit to investigate and assess the damage." Mitsuoki paused and gave a sigh "Furthermore, I am now obligated to report it since they know I was nearby. Unless you wish to be present when my less individualized coworkers arrive, I would advise vacating back to the park, or hueco mundo. But, before you do anything, you may address me as Mitsuoki. Since you lack a name, I will assign you the name 'Tikana' to substitute. That name is a northern american tribal name I came across in my readings that translates to 'Wolf,' which seems appropriate. If you ever remember your name, I wish to know it." Mitsuoki pulled out his cellphone and said "This is Kumagai, kidoshu member. I am currently on retrieval task of a lost object and am reporting a potential Vasto Lordes in the area. Please dispatch the appropriate strength of force to investigate damage to Naruki City, as well as deal with the threat."
"Kumagai, Mitsuoki. I shall remember your name." This, before Nadezhda dashed off to investigate the source of the overpowering spiritual pressure.
"I fear to believe this presence is something familiar... But if memory still serves me correctly..." Nadezhda looked over to where Mitsuoki knelt down to survey the damages. "The master I once served in life was a kind and caring woman. One who's decisions caused her to become shunned and hated by the people she cared for. She may have come to hate them in her final days, but the master I know in my memories would not hold the capacity for this form of senseless destruction based solely on their transgressions against her."
Nadezhda stood and walked over to Mitsuoki, Looking out over the destruction as he listened to the Shinigami's explanation and indicated need for him as a hollow to vacate the area. "It is understood, though allow me to be so bold as to make a request, as ridiculous as it sounds from one Hollow to a Shinigami. It is clear to me she has not retained her life's memories in her hollowfied state. This destruction before us is testament to that fact. I fear that what she has regained of those memories lost is but a fragment of her true self; The evil acts of those who tortured and snuffed out her life. In her heart she will likely seek to take vengeance upon those who wronged her. But this rage is blind and more than a Millennia old." Nadezhda's voice was cold and heavy with sadness as he turned his head to catch Mitsuoki's eyes directly in his own. "Do what you must to minimize the damages my master's rage may cause. I ask only that in return, you permit me the chance to confront her for myself when the time is right." Nadezhda would wait just long enough to receive a response to his request before the beast vanished into the desolate confines of Hueco Mundo... "If it is by your decree with which you grant me the name Tikana, I shall permit it. Until the day I remember the one once given to me by my master. Farewell Kumagai, Mitsuoki"
Kara didn't give chase. She was not so foolish as to attempt to face off with whatever force had produced that terrifying presence. Instead she checked the area she'd previously attempted to pass in which she'd met with an unfavorable invisible wall. Whatever it was the Shinigami had done, it was now gone.
Kara shook her head in response to Thirty Seven's question. Both Shinigami and Hollow had taken off at a pace far greater than she was capable of... "Why do you serve him?" the Mod Soul asked, turning her gaze over to him. "They made us as tools to serve them but then they discarded us without a care or a reason, going so far as to destroy everyone without even giving us a chance to continue living for ourselves." Kara shuddered to think what would have happened were she to have ended up as one of the unlucky ones... "It isn't fair! Why do they get to decide our future for us!? Why don't we get to decide what happens?" The angered Mod Soul raged, jabbing her finger in the direction that Mitsuoki and Nadezhda had darted off to. She struggled to hold back tears. Her eyes felt hot and her vision became blurry. Why did her vessel have the ability to produce such a pointless thing and at a time like this!?
