Botanical gardens always seemed to be nice places filled with plants bent on the pure idea of conservation and collection. Most also intertwined modern and classic sculptural works for visitors to admire among brightly blooming blossoms. Daylight hours found gates wide open and welcoming to all while the nights were reserved for the elite of cities social gatherings, and fund raising for the garden's upkeep. This night was such as this.
..... of a Midsummer's Night, had been a city hit even with it's unoriginal name. Guests would pay high dollar to dress up in themed attire and stroll through the garden's many night blooming flower exhibits, watching what ever theater troupe the garden's hired that year put on the famous Shakespearean play the event was named after. This year would be Children of a Midsummer's Night. Mixing a gothic 'children of the night' and punk theme into the faier fantastical elements of decoration, costumes and food. The city would have been buzzing for this event for months. Radio stations would drop dates and time and how exclusive the tickets were. All in all everything a company could do to make a dollar off the city's rich and wealthy patronage. Good food good laughs at the ever so comical friendly and honest Puck....and most importantly....free booze. It was no wonder it was the Garden's most popular event.
As cheese cake and corny as the event was it didn't mean any less planning went into it. Guests would start at the early night bloomers and follow the play all the way through from sundown to midnight when it's crowned jewel of a night bloom could be watched blooming. Some rare flower that only bloomed at night once a year. Insert 'Presto' hands here folks and you get where I am going.
This was all fun, dandy, full of suckers with big wallets and by invite only.
Question was though who invited Kiku....and more importantly how the hell did they know him by name?
Sure enough the bount not only have received an invitation, but one with his name mysteriously scrawled onto it.
To attend, or not to attend, THAT would be the OTHER question.
[attr="class","bsbody"]Pale lips opened slowly before releasing a bit of a yawn. A sound echoed from the front of the shop as the owner of the pale complexion rolled off to the side of the bed. His hand darting under his pillow to grab what seemed to have been a pale porcine mask. The sound was that of a bell that chimed into the back areas and his living sections when a package or mail was dropped off. ”Time to get up Gott..” He mumbled ever so lightly as he slumped out of his bed.
”Sleep well Kiku?” Hummed off from the mask in his hand.
”You know better than to ask that.” He soon retorted as he soon made his way towards the closet. He quickly dressed himself with his normal attire. A white tank top over his ink covered pale skin with a black jacket over it. He slipped on his shorts before his sandels.
He headed back to the front shop, his eyes flicking across the Broken Dreams banner that was paint above the door. His lips turned into a bit of a smile for a moment before a female voice slipped through his head quickly. ”Remember when we used to break peoples dreams?” ”Shut up Gott” Followed as usual. “I’m feeling lazy today, so we’re checking the mail, and heading back t-” He started to say before his voice was caught in his throat. He eyed the basket that his mail fell into. A single letter was in there. This didn’t seem like any else in there.
He’d soon retrieved it to skim his eyes over the envelope. It was fancy, and had weight to it. The black paper had just his name, and that was it. ”Open it Kiku. Someone is calling us out.” He heard whispering from the mask on his side. Gott wasn’t lying. That is exactly what he thought it was too. Could it be Alexander again? ”Fuck it all to hell. This means my damn name is on a list somewhere. Might as well.” He had muttered after he’d opened it up and read the content.
Timeskip the time of the event
It was lucky for him that the gothic themed. He fit in well in terms of attire. However something bugged him, so he pushed his punk side a bit more, or his bount side. There wasn’t a risk he was taking. Gottes Faust was secured to his face, his red eyes being the only thing visible through the slots in the mask.
As he arrived, he handed the greeter his invitation. ”Sir, your invitation says you reserved a plus one. Is your companion on the way?” He froze for a moment before smirking below the mask. ”No ma’am. They couldn’t make it.” He said with a light tone, though loud enough to be heard over the noise of the event. The blond quickly bowed her head, and let him through. He passed through the area, quickly moving over to a section of tables near that flower that the event was all about. If they knew his name, then they would surely find him soon.
Ah Soon. A word that meant speedily, promptly, early, instantly and quickly too. A word that did not and would not apply to Kiku nor his mask in finding. It would be well after the first act in fact. After being ushered through row after row of dusk blooming buds as the play went on the word Kiku would find more apt to his finding would be words like later, slowly but not quiet so bad as never.
It fact it would be at the beginning of Act II, after Kiku had been offered yet another glass of wine, that whose ever plan this was on him and his being here would unfold.
"How now, spirit! whither wander you?" The actor playing mowack clad Puck said in over animate fashion after chasing a mechanical butterfly wing clad actress through some flowers in front of the guests.
It would be then Kiku would see fireflies flickering over by a darkened corner of the botanical garden pathway. They flickered and darkened in blue tones that fireflies were not supposed to be, near and around an obsidian statue of a woman drapped in black robes. More so though it would seem non of the other guest noticed either.
"Over hill, over dale," Child like voices said in unison from the corner.
"Over hill, over dale," The fairy actress said in falsetto.
"Thorough bush, thorough brier, Over park, over pale, Thorough flood, thorough fire, I do wander everywhere, Swifter than the moon's sphere; And I serve the fairy queen," The voices said like they'd had heard this play once too many times as the actress spoke the words too.
"Really you'd think if they changed the clothes they could change the words...." One of the impish voices didn't sound so pleased.
"Shhh...that one can hear us."
"Arn't we looking for two?"
The voices unheard by anyone but Kiku and his doll began to hold a conversation with each other on if Kiku was the one they were waiting for or not.
If he'd approach or begin to approach they'd eek and retreat into the safety of the botanical garden's foliage, deep past the pathways and into the barely tamed brush. They'd never let him get to close before moving forward again, as if doing so would stop the lighted path only he could see.
They would take him down areas of the garden mortals usually didn't go. Dark places filled with brambles that seemed ill tended and vines that were given their will to grow in what ways they pleased. He'd be led up a moss covered stony hill and as he got closer to the top a small shrine to that black clad figure would be at the top. No more than knee high and only a single statue of what looked to be black goldstone with blue flecks that glittered like the night sky in the little lights soft glows.
"Oh I do think it's him..." One light said zipping around the head of the statue. Then before he got too close all of those fireflies zoomed over the apex of the hill, leaving it's ridge back-lit in a blue glow, giving the statue an eerie silhouette.
If he chose to read the marker it would say.
"Behold, Nyx, Goddess of the night, Mother of Death, and feared by Zeus." The plaque would then go on to explain how the little shrine statue had been acquired and when and by whom and other pips about the goddess in old Greek lore. But that all wasn't too important. What was important was what laid behind the hill.
When and if Kiku decided to do so, the moment he decided to brave pass the vines and bramble and over the hill's crest, the blue light died and there lay the most curious of sights. A small field of evening primroses, open full golden bloom, lit by the moon above causing them to glow in gold, speckled with dark drops of blood. In the middle of the macabre scene lay a woman, broken and bloodied though breathing and yet oddly sound asleep.
The woman's gold hair looked to be glowing like the flowers and at once looked to have been up in twin french braids though now was partly down and very dishevel. Her jeans, white shirt and what little remained of a black leather jacket were tattered, torn and speckled with that same stain as the flowers. Her left arm looked to be burned from finger tip all the way up to her shoulder and her other arm held shards of white bone peaking out through skin. Her left leg looked to be in about the same shape as her right arm. What ever had happened to this woman, had happened with a deathly purpose.
Bizarrely enough though, there was nothing on her face that revealed any pain. If anything she seemed to be having a pleasant dream.
[attr="class","bsbody"]Kiku lounged back into his chair the moment that they play had started, and it was quite curious that it started a mere moment after he situated himself in his chair. His lips opened just slightly to release a Germanic whisper for Gott’s to hear only. ”Keep your eyes open, and stay focused. I don’t like this...” He said as his nostrils flared. Each person in the area minus a few were human by their smells. A Quincy or two in the mix. However they seemed captivated by the show before him.
His hand came down, and rapped against the table that he was at. He sat, listening and watching the show that was given to him. Time and time again, drinks were brought to his table along with appetizers. As appetizing as the servers were themselves he didn’t feel like taking off his mask for the current moment.
Needless to say as the second act begun he was getting ready to leave. A glass of wine had been brought to his table as he’d begun to stand. He waved the woman off again ”Here is a tip sweetie for wasting you time.” He said with a light smile before depositing a few bills onto her tray as she went to leave. Her face went red face as his voice held the German accent, heavy as he’d been using it the entire time to speak with Gott, who giggled at the sight.
”If you see her again, you should ‘taste her’. I’m sure she’d taste good.” Which was a suggestion that Kiku decided to refuse to acknowledge.
He began to turn to leave as the voices in the crowd reached his ears. The word configurations were entirely to specific for them to be random conversation. He soon sucked his bottom lip into his mouth, and caught the flesh with his sharp canine for a moment before almost deciding to solidify his decision.
”To your right. Fireflies blinking blue.” It was quickly, and likely one of the few useful things Gott had said that night. Kiku swerved his head over, noticing them and how they moved in a path. ”What in the hell is Alexander doing today?” He had said under his breath as he began to move through the crowd towards the fireflies. Little did he realize, the ones he’d heard speaking just earlier were down the path. Again he heard the odd voices speaking again. The moment they spoke of two, his anger tilted.
His reiatsu gathered, and dissipated. His hand lifted to his mask as it began to hum with excitement. ”It’s time! It’s time!” Gott yelled for only Kiku to hear. His own lips opened as his eyes widened. His sharp teeth that would harden the idea of him being a vampiric creature exposed to the air before his voice lifted. “Open for me, Ziege Dich” His hand fell from his mask as strands of reishi began to release from the edges of it. The mask he wore soon had an accompanying hood, and red trench coat like jacket that hung over his body. Three moving claw like appendages came off the fabric, and floated around him.
In his head Kiku would imagine himself sitting in a chair behind a screen. Behind him a young woman with red hair stood behind him with her arms draped his neck. Her hair spilling down over her arms and onto his chest. On the screen before him there was darkness as the new level of power engulfed him. On the outside Kiku’s eyes were shut as the power took over him, and as he opened his eyes the world was taken to a blue hue. Things without heat bore a simply line of black around them, while those with heat were bright red and orange. It was time for a hunt.
He picked up his speed now out of the eyes of those who were mortal. The brambles that filled the path were soon pushed away by the hovering arms, allowing his own to be free. The voices hadn’t stopped, but there was something he could see. Tiny orange specks appeared each time he heard it, and it soon vanished. He was concerned? As he reached the statue, he knelt down to read what seemed to be a marker. The words echoed through his mind, and the name Zeus bothered him. It had always bothered. He wasn’t no novice to the lore of the Greek, but he just held an ire for the thunder lord, and he couldn’t put a finger on it. Oddly enough it was like his stomach turned.
He soon moved on beyond the hill, curious of the lights. When he was greeted with the sight of clear garden, but there was more. His mask picked up on the heat signature though fading in the middle of it. The woman that was in the middle drew his attention. His anger faded for concern as he rushed down the hill. “...If this is another one that Alex roughed up, and left for us to clean up can I castrate him? Anyways, I’m sure she’ll be tas-” Echoed through his head as he reached the girl. It was obvious she would need serious help, and not anything he could provide here. “Shut up Gott. I’m taking control for now.” He barked out. It was a rare moment that of all things, Gott went silent. She relinquish control of her arms to his subconscious commands. He moved to the side of the woman, and carefully lifted her up. Ensuring not to move her too much once she was sitting in the massive palms of his doll’s form. The claw like fingers came together to form a snug cage around the woman, ensuring she wasn’t going to fall. She was small, and seemingly frail.
He soon turned, and took off out of the area. Ensuring to avoid any sort of area that would leave any human to see him. Part of him though felt as though some eyes were upon him. He wasn’t sure how, but it was quite alarming.
He arrived back at the shop, and took to using the roof entrance. It lead straight into the back section of his shop where he laid the girl out onto a table that he often used for a work place. He was rather neat about things, so it was already bare. He used the third arm that wasn’t holding the girl to position a pillow below where her head would be.
The arms pulled together before he began to focus on her body. The secondary ability of his sight took effect to actually figure out what was wrong with her besides the burns. That was when he noticed the broken bones and how bad they were. How was the girl so solemnly asleep? ”...Kiku we need to work fast. If she moves wrong, blood-loss will become a thing” There wasn’t another word shared between them. Kiku hadn’t really needed to say anything else as Gott had already started to grab materials with her arms after setting the girl down.
The first thing that was grabbed was a series of palms that were soon spread across the girl’s burn right arm. Leaving that tack to Kiku, something requiring careful hands and not claws. It was applied over the burn if anything to sooth it.
While he was doing this, Gott was waiting for order. The bones were difficult to deal with. The only thing he could think of would hurt her, and it was only something he’d practiced once in the past. Healing His hands came down, and first hovered over the fracture at her left leg. Gott soon came down with her claws, and gripped the woman’s leg at the caff and the other held her hip in a manner that the sharp points wouldn’t cut her. Her sleep would likely be soon disturbed as she began to pull them apart to cause the bone to go back into the skin. Kiku on the other hand began to work on what he remembered from the old days. The days when he was the one they tested this on. ”Please work!” He yelled as his spiritual energies left his body, engulfing the area of the break. He used a concept he’d only heard about. His energies stimulated the damaged areas of the woman. Nurturing the cells with pure energy to force rapid cellular regeneration. His eyes behind the mask watched as the bone in her arm would’ve soon joint back enough to be straight. There was still tearing, but she could heal on her own for that. He moved to the other side of her body, having Gott’s tug on her arm a similar way, and mending it together.
To him, the major panic was over with. However, he would have to immobilize each limb, at least the broken ones. He took pieces of wood in his shop, 2 of them. One as long as her leg, and the other her arm. The one for her arm was carefully slipped up under her before secured with a set of canvas like bandages across the arm. He soon did the same thing to her leg. He took a deep breath before looking across her damaged body once more. Was he done?
His hand came up to his face, and drew off his mask for the first time since he’d arrived at the party earlier. His face covered in sweat. However his nostrils flared and something shook him, he’d just helped a shinigami.
Through it all the woman didn't seem to waken. Like the sleep that held her was beyond what normal would be like. No one or nothing should be able to sleep through such things. Though it would probably be for Kiku's benefit. If she had awoke to some stranger pulling fractured bones back and forth she wouldn't have been such a good little patient.
Her brow would furrow a bit at certain points like she was trying to wake up but couldn't quiet breach the waves of consciousness. Breathing would fight into an awakened state only to be once again smooth and slumbering. She....she was fighting something fierce. Either that be to stay alive or to become awake well that was yet to be seen. Her body too oddly enough didn't fight the bount's energy flowing through it. In fact it seemed more than happy to take the help where ever it came from.
"You...arn't exactly who or what I expected to find out here..." A voice in the darker corner of the room said. It was sharp and terse and full of distrust. "A bount that helps a shinigami...these are strange and dark days." It was a woman...well sort of? A zanpakuto spirit to be more accurate....and one that looked almost as bad as her owner had.
Large claws had left deep marks over teal woad covered skin. The spirits gunmetal hair and wings were caked in what looked to be her own blood and perhaps others. Though what seemed more strange was the fact she seemed to be holding a cracked sheath. Teal iris' locked onto red ones and Kiku would find he ad at least one thing in common with the spirit the sclera of this zanpakuto was black. "We do not know you stranger....but we are thankful." The strange furry brought to life said stumbling toward her master with much effort. The spirit would seem to come to a controlled collapse near the table the shinigami was on, then as if she could not spare any more energy to manifest....returned to her blade form once again, clattering like a cymbal to the ground. If Kiku had known the normal temperance of that blade he'd probably would have been shocked to hear a thanks from it. As it were though, if the spirit truly reflected it's wielder. He would not have much to fear from this particular shinigami.
The blonde woman's breathing began to indicate that what ever she was fighting was about to loose against her. Her brow pinched together and furrowed as if that would help her open her eyes. "H-how..." a cracked and tiered voice would come from the broken body he'd just put to mending. It sounded very much surprised to be alive. Blonde lashes would flit open with effort revealing grey-green eyes that were doing their best to focus on the ceiling.
The shinigami's breath caught in her chest at the very real amount of pain wracking her body that because crystal clear to her waking mind. "I-I'm alive?" The way she croaked it out it would make Kiku wonder if healing her had actually been a good deed. Those grey-green hues would seem to focus finally on Kiku. "I...I don't...understand?" Pain mixed with confusion of waking up in a new place with a new face.
The shinigami's face twisted into worry. "You...you aren't hurt are you?"
As if Kiku's day couldn't get any more bizarre. Not only did he heal a shinigami but healed one that while even broke on his table seemed more concerned about his state than her own. Apparently what had ever shattered her she wasn't aware it had gone and left her in a nice pile of flowers. The blonde swallowed hard then made a motion to try and sit up on her own. To her credit she got almost all the way up with the burnt arm only to have that limb remind her brain that it nor she was in any position to try and be a badass. She was awake....and alive...that alone should be enough.
"Son of a bitch..." The woman managed to say clearly as the pain managed to wisk away all crackyness in her voice even though she'd managed to land right back on her back.
Kiku could probably tell she'd be no threat to him, even if she wasn't sitting broken across his table. Grey green eyes too seem to clear with the pain that trying to prop herself up had caused. It'd take a few startled and ragged breaths though for them to focus back over at him. "Wh-where am I?" She'd ask the bount and as her eyes focused on Kiku thoughts became more clearer and confused at the same time. "Wh-who ....wh-what...are you?" While the zanpakuto seemed to know what Kiku was, this shinigami did not at all seem to understand what he was. She could tell what he was NOT but as to what he was well...she was a young shinigami and bounts were not exactly taught at the academy.
Her brow would pinch again as if someone had suddenly lectured her in her own mind "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be rude...I just...." The shinigami would take a very large breath in trying to collect what semblance of thoughts she could. "Think I've had a really bad dream...."
Boy was that wasn't much of an excuse and really didn't explain anything but...it was the best she had for what had happened to her.
"They...said you...saved us?" The girl asked the bount apparently hearing her soul sword filling her in on some information. "Thank you. I'm...." Oh she was loosing consciousness again... "I'm...Ain" If Kiku hadn't been listening closely he'd not caught her name before she slip back into the land of nod. Though this time it seemed more of a natural sleep caused by the shock her body had taken than that peaceful and unnatural sleep he'd found her in. And it would appear she was still trying her best to wake up.
[attr="class","bsbody"]There is only so much shit a guy can go through before wanting to bash his head in, and if it wasn’t for the fact of his fault regeneration, Kiku would be doing so. ’Must not tell Got-’ His internal note about not telling Gott what she was looking at was soon ended with the materialization of the spirit. He felt the mask that was in his hand vibrate with the knowledge that was soon made obvious. ”I’m never going to hear the end of this.” He said as his brow obviously twitched. He continued to listen to the spirit though, ignoring the twisted being in his hand.
He watched the sword, and as the woman’s voice picked up he simply watched her. He could tell she was straining herself, so he let her be her till she went back to sleep. He waited till she was atleast somewhat asleep. He reached down to the ground, and lifted the girl’s soul slayer with his free hand. His lips turned down into a frown as he thought back on his past involving those that used these weapons. Part of him wanted to hide this blade, and never let her see it again. He couldn’t do that however. No, it’d be wrong. That’d be like taking Gott from him. He moved across the room, across from the table she rested upon, and sat it up for her to be able to see if she woke again.
He slipped out of the room, and into the front of the bar. ”So, we have a shinigami in there... ”I’m very aware of what we have back there. What bothers me is how we found her. I felt like I was targeted and drawn. That area, something didn’t fit right.” ”Leave it be? Perhaps it was just Alex, and he didn’t want people to connect you two for something.”
The conversation passed quickly between the two beings as Kiku leaned over the bar, his eyes skimming across the bottles, debating on a drink. He would likely need it.
The smell of evening primroses would seem to pass between Gott and Kiku as their conversation went on and with that smell a very strange presence would also begin to be felt. Like they were being watched, watched and thought upon.
It would feel like a benevolent coolness would have seeped into the room. Not like a winter's night, but like the cool that comes just before dawn, the kind that created dew and fog right as the sun rose. But dawn was hours upon hours away so that couldn't be quite right could it. The lingering considerations would creep up one arm, along the back of his neck and down to Gott as if a curious yet unseen soul wanted to know exactly what it was dealing with.
What ever it found there, in Gott and in Kiku, it seemed at peace with. Like it didn't care the bount ate souls to live. Like it had seen the depths of his character as a person and found it viable and interesting. Then it would seem to move, dewy calmness leaving him and Gott and moving toward the room the sleeping Shinigami woman was in.
Ain meanwhile would still be fighting for an awakened state. But when that strange presence settled into the room....so too again did that unnatural state of slumbering Kiku had found the woman in. Ain was purposefully being kept unnaturally at rest it would seem. As the Shinigami's fight failed to wake up due to a renewal of unnatural power...the unseen fogginess would branch out and circle around Kiku's place. A dome of that near unsettling calmness forming as if to say. "Nothing important lays with in this area. Nothing to see. Nothing to feel. Nothing interesting. Just a little corner of the world that is completely mundane in every way and there aren't any injured shinigami with in...or bounts."
It was all very sureal to anybody who could sense the presence. Like a dome of protection and concealing power had raised not only to keep the Shinigami asleep but to ward any further damage to her being done.
"His name is Hypno." Kiku would hear a woman's voice from another corner of the room he'd be in now. Not the zanpakuto this time though. No this...this was something completely different.
Golden eyes glinted at Kiku from the shadows of his own home in a calm and curious yet partly furious way. "I am happy and more than a little surprised to see that there are yet still bounts in this world."
The woman's voice was a mix between a pur and a lullaby. Like she was purpousfully trying not to startle the bount. "And I must say, I've never known one to heal....let a lone heal a shinigami. I must thank you for that. I'm afraid that girl is quiet important to up coming events and has proven herself quiet the handful."
A raven haired figure moved slowly forward out of the shadow it had been in and there was no denying it something about her was....off putting yet awe inspiring at the same time. It wasn't the fact that she'd show up out of nowhere...nor that she was taller than most women, or the fact that her hair seemed to move like a mix between smoke and silk underwater, or the fact that the hem of her dark gown seemed to be made up of the twinkling of the night sky. No...what would really affect the bount was that she'd feel like no other creature he'd ever been privy to meeting.
"Hullo children of darkness...I do belive we've met before...well...some what...I suppose I looked more like this..." She say cooly to the bount and his doll. Then as if her though was her will...she'd move. It was like a wisp of smoke or a wraith of dark, flitting from her current form, and swirling, compressing down into a very familar statue. The very one he'd seen right before finding the shinigami woman.
The moment Kiku would put two and two together Nyx would giggle and return back to the golden eyed goddess that she was. "I'm afraid I owe you a few debts of gratitude fair bount...one helping someone by all rights you didn't have to help...." She'd nod to the room Ain was sleeping in. "and one for letting me know that even I can still be surprised..."
Yes Nyx had been surprised. She'd not felt a bount in years and she sure as the river styx was wide couldn't ever remember one with the ability to heal. "Tell me child, why DID you help that girl? After what the shinigami had done to the bounts I'd wager it wasn't exactly your first thought for her."
[attr="class","bsbody"]As the smell of the flowers reached his nose he didn’t even flinch. Gott didn’t even make a reference. She knew what Kiku would’ve said, and it was for the best in the coming situation that he had his sip first. Before the coolness had set in, he was behind the bar pulling out a bottle of sake sitting in a mini boiler that was stashed for the tenders to use. He took a small sip as the wave hit him. His brow twitched. He didn’t smell anything else around them at the moment other than the girl in the back. Then whatever it was touched him. He was very less than pleased with the situation. ”I feel violated Kiku.” He felt a bit better about the situation.
He was careful as his fingers skimmed across Gott’s mask, in a way reassuring her but also being ready incase something were to happen. Then the voice finally came. The voice first spoke of a being named Hypno. A being of greek lore that stood over the realms of dreams. The voice, there was no one else here that he could detect. Then there were the eyes, the golden ones. Partially he was concerned he’d found a hollow or something that could slip past him before she spoke again. Her voice, had an edge to it, and it just made it worse. Worse enough as he brought the bottle of sake to his lips once more. He took a good bit into his mouth, and swallowed. ”I’m a prototype of sorts. I failed to have the ability to regenerate, so I gained the heal myself and others through other methods.” He’d begun to say before setting down his bottle, and motioning to the seat across the bar from him.
”Why did I help her? I’m drawn to pain. I was labeled Kindred Kummers when I was being designed. My purpose i- was to kill. I do so now to survive and protect. She was hurt, and I felt the need to help.” He said before looking up at the woman. There was something he did though, not as a threat but a habit. Since there was someone about to be sitting at his bar, he quickly replaced Gott on his face. So to limit his own drinking, and to keep his ritual.
Nyx's fluid form sat at the bar across from him. "Failed you say?" She'd ask in that lullaby purr. "I do not see failure in you child. Blinding purpose maybe...but not failure." It would seem that that small flaw would be the very thing that interested the night goddess in this particular bount. "Interesting strength gained from a perceived weakness..." She'd seem to be mulling that thought over out loud, like it might pertain to something else as well.
The flowing haired woman would listen as he spoke again however and give him a bemused smile. "It is not so much the act of killing but the who of it that designates us from others." She'd say not at all bothered by the fact the bount did what he must to live. She'd quirk a brow as the mask went up.
"An you little doll? What do you think of your master's need to help?" Yes she'd seem to know that that mask was more than it seemed. The goddess' hand raised as if to touch Kiku and Gott.
"M-Mother...." The lord of dreams tried to murmur a warning.
"Keep your hands off them you morbid bitch..."Ain's voice interrupted from the doorway in a near snarl. Seemed she'd broken through the sandman's spell and was none too happy to see this particular goddess. The blonde was propping herself up by her shoulder in the door frame, burn't palmed hand on her zanpakuto.
Nyx's brows shot up in surprise for the second time that night, the surprised looked turned into one of complete delight. "My my...I'm beginning to see why Athena likes you so. You do have a tendency to keep defying all logic dear Odysseus..."
"MY. NAME. IS. AIN." The blonde shinigami said through clinched teeth like this was a normal debate the two had held before.
Nyx would turn back to Kiku and give him a golden eyed wink. "Yes...yes...Odysseus...that is your name now but..." Kiku would get the instant feeling the wispy haired one was trying to get under the shinigami's skin on purpose.
"No buts you psychopath...."Ain snapped. "Ain. Not Odysseus, not king of Ithaca....AIN." She'd give Kiku a look that clearly said 'don't let the crazy powerful thing touch you because you might catch her crazy'. Buuuut to be fair that was a complete and logical reaction to someone telling you they were a greek goddess....
"Do you even know who you are trying to protect?" Nyx sad wryly at the shinigami woman then looked over at Kiku. "I think it'd be interesting if she knew what you really are..." There was that purring lullaby tone once again. "Buuuuut I'll leave that small mystery up to you to reveal. I think I'll be going now... That one doesn't like me so well as of yet..." She'd mention over to Ain.
"YOU FUCKING KIDNAPPED ME OF COURSE I DON'T LIKE YOU!" Ain protested from her spot.
"You'll thank me for it later..." Nyx said with a yawn. "Oh and sir bount...some...other children of mine might be swinging by to say hello...Make sure to charge them handsomely for their drinks...." Nyx would give the bount another wink and then would poof from the bar leaving that dome of power, but taking Hypno with her.
"HEY!" Ain would say then try to go after her only to fall flat on her face into the bar room. Some differently language cussing could be heard as the fall took a bit of wind out of her. Sever moments of seething later well... she was still pissed...but she'd managed to turn onto her back and glare up at the ceiling. A few moments and a sigh later she'd turn to look at the person who'd helped her. "You probably are the most unluckiest of people around to have found me...Why is she interested in you do you know?" She'd ask the man in the mask.
[attr="class","bsbody"]Kiku listened to the words of the woman. He tuned her out the moment she’d began talking about how he described himself, as he’d taken to clean some scuffs off the bar top. They were annoying. He’d found one that was quite annoying to remove. It was off to her side. He’d retrieved a bottle of stain remover in the time it took her to get to the point where she reached over the bar to try touching Kiku and Gott. A very bad habit kicked in, something that comes from not liking people touching his face, he rose the bottle of strain remover up and attempted to spray her in the face. Sadly, it would seem that the moment he attempted to do this the Ain woman barged from the back onto the floor of the bar.
”Kiku don’t do it. ”But, she’s injured?” ”Bedside manners? ”She has two broken limbs and a serious burn?” ”You win this time”
The quick conversation went on while Ain was arguing with the woman who was apparently a kidnapper. His ears picked up a few things while he went back to cleaning his bar. Like how apperently this powerful figure kept calling Ain Odysseus, and then there were more words tossed. The mark finally came up right as she mentioned what he was. He slipped so causing him to loosing his balance and collapse somewhat onto the bar before catching himself barely.
He stared at Ain through the holes in his mask before blinking slowly. His expression quickly changed from confused to annoyed. ”You’re lucky I consider myself somewhat a doctor, or I’d make you lay there without an help for the paid.” He said as he slipped from behind the bar with a bottle of whiskey in hand. He set the bottle next to her head, within reach of the burnt arm. The salve by this time should’ve allowed it to heal enough for it to be usable. ”Now dear~ Resonated from the mask with a feminine purr before Kiku’s voice followed in a half serious tone. I haven’t the faintest why she’s interested in me. However I’m curious who you really are. Are you Odysseus with boobs, or are you this shinigami sitting on my floor that I found half dead?” He released a light sigh. "First it was a marker talking about Nyx and Zeus. Now Odysseus? What's next, going to tell me Achilles is real?"
The world between worlds Caesar had opened for him and Theocolese to enter seemed to stretch on for eons as the arrancar spun his tale for the vizard. Man oh man was it a long one, had he not seen the apparition only moments ago the baker might well have been inclined to think Theocolese himself was mad. One thing remained on the vizard’s mind, fresher than any batch of dough he would ever cook, that being the look of emptiness on the arrancar’s face when he grabbed him. It was the only reason the vizard had set him down when had so, he of all people recognized that look more than anything else. It was the look of a man with nothing to lose, a man who’d seemingly lost everything that was dear to him only to be teased over and over again with the thought of reclaiming it. There was no mistaking it, Theocolese was on the verge of madness, it would only take one more straw he was certain and the strong and sturdy camel’s back would be broken.
You should listen to yourself talk, the vizard interjected, goddess or otherwise I will see her bleed if necessary, even if I have to die to do it. It was brash and naive, almost unbecoming of the vizard’s many years, but he was still pissed, his entire world was turned upside down once more and even now, flashbacks of the fire that killed his parents seemed to flicker in and out of his conssciousness. Theo continued his tale, his words anchoring the vizard to their current situation even as the pair of them would walk the vast expanse of the spiritual realm towards Naruki City. The arrancar’s tale did not disappoint either, by it’s end Caesar felt that he’d known more about the arrancar than he was comfortable with. Still, listening to it had washed away any traces of anger he’d held, in its stead there was only. . . .empathy for his friend. He was a victim of circumstance, perhaps that was what they shared in common above all else, the pillar of their friendship even.
One that was quickly forgotten when Theo told him he would have to stay in Hueco Mundo with Ain, the vizard shot the arrancar a look of incredulous disbelief. THE FUCK I WILL THEOCOLESE, he almost shouted using the arrancar’s full name, YOU WANT ME TO HIDE IN THE FACE OF DANGER LIKE A COWARD? DONT FUCKING INSULT ME
In truth Cae didn’t want to leave the bakery, he didn’t want to just up and abandon the place. That would mean he’d lost again, that he really was a pawn in teh scheme of life. . . . that he had absolutely no control. In the back of his mind he cursed Ain for having wormed her way into his heart, he cursed himself for letting her do so and he cursed Theocolese for seemingly appearing out of nowhere to add an even heavier pile of shit on the entire situation. An eerie stillness permeated thereafter and the vizard immediately regretted having allowed such thoughts to enter his mind. But the words had already been spoken and if anything he would stick by them.
I’m not running again, he said, more tame this time. I’ve done that before, turns out its not an effective strategy, problems end up catching you anyway. The vizard’s eyes remained locked forward this time, he would not be reasoned with by any stretch of the determination, you and I, we fight for the same thing. . . . .the ability to face whatever comes at you head on with all your might regardless of the odds. . . . .to die on our own terms.
It was only then that the vizard would turn to face his friend, why would you take that away from me? the words would be spoken spftly, meant to provoke deep thought rather than raw emotion. As he spoke the senkaimon doors would appear before them once more, the city lights of naruki glowing just beyond as they parted before them.
You let me worry about Ain once we’ve found her, his voice calm and determined as he would step out, I’m gonna kill woman if that’s the last thing I do. Those words, whilst an exaggeration, would not be far from the truth.
"Indeed, we do my brother." Theocelese said just as softly, cigarette resting between his lips. He gazed back at Caesar in a similar fashion."I would take that away from you, just as you have taken away a beautiful death for me." The statement was nothing short of the truth, though it did leave the question lingering in the air that perhaps...maybe all of what Caesar saw earlier reflected the possibility that the Arrancar was looking to die in a blaze of glory that would redeem him from all the countless innocents who had been harmed or killed in his name. To assume that Theocelese saw death in combat as nothing short of what he'd always wanted, but this time, it was different. Whatever rope he clung to from losing himself and becoming the thing that both men feared was growing more thin by each rise and fall of the moon. In this perspective, it was clear that Theocelese's intentions were to just let go when he stormed the castle, so to speak.
"I'm not asking you to run, Caesar...I'm asking you to not take any chances. Humor me, call me crazy, say what you will, but just humor me. Let me leave knowing I have seen you in Hueco Mundo with my own eyes, give me that modicum of comfort and then you may return here once I depart for whatever cursed Sun Realm." Theocelese's voice remained low, but oh how the thrumming in his mind grew even worse from the aggression still palpable in the air. He ignored it the best he could, and resorted to a slow, but constant cracking of his knuckles to keep his hands from being idle for too long. "You still have yet to fulfill my request to watch over Shiro. When she is not in attendance at school, that is when I have been training her. In Hueco Mundo, and she resides within Las Noches.
And if you do not wish to do this for me...then believe my benefactor. If Apollo really has an eye for Ain, and...I think I now know why, then it is imperative he remains free from his clutches. If I'm right...she's no longer just important to you...you know who I am now. You know if that is my oldest of friends...if I lose it and your strength is not enough to contain me, his...her, words may do just that. It would not be the first time." Theocelese let that possibility hang there. It looked tough for the Arrancar to openly admit to Caesaer what the man already knew, but he did it. He reached an elbow out and gave the Vizard a nod. "...Besides...you never said Ain couldn't make me bread..." He shot a challenging grin to his brother, and took another deep pull from his cigarette, left eye slightly more closed than the right and his teeth slowly grinding at the filter of his smoke.
Ain's head was reeling. Even from the ground she still felt she was spinning. This ... this had to fucking be a dream right? She was still dreaming. Or was this another fucked up test of that woman's? Nah not a test. This place felt different that where she'd been before. Saorise had given her at least that much information before going silent to rest. No they were out of that hellscape and in the human world with something the zanpakuto spirit had called a bount. Whatever the hell that was.
Green eyes cut over to Kiku as he spoke. He had a mask and for a moment Ain began to wonder if she'd yet again stumbled across another vizard. Now THAT seemed to be her luck if anything was. "Sorry for all the trouble." Wait...had she said that already? Ugh. Pain, anger and the lack of ability to do anything about either made for one hell of a cocktail for a headache.
Kiku would reveal he too had no clue why the woman was interested in him. Well fantastic at least she wasn't alone in that fact. She'd close her eyes as she listened to his footsteps move closer. It'd be the chink of glass on wood floor that'd have her eyes open again. Was...that...pft... at that moment Ain didn't give a rats ass who Nyx thought this man to be. He could be an arrancar for all she cared if that bottle of amber colored liquid was for her.
The flaxen haired woman moved again to sit up, using the burnt arm over the broken one. "No..." She grumble at being asked if she was Odysseus again. "I'm Ain. Ain Cordare. Shinigami of the 11th division. Rations Officer of the 11th division...I'm no king of Ithaca..." She'd rambled off like she'd apparently been telling someone those very facts over and over and over.
Swimmingly, she'd get herself into a seated position bringing the one good leg up and under the bad one to give it a little support. The way she'd move, even in her current state, would reveal to someone of Kiku's age that this wouldn't have been the first time she'd had broken bones to work around, she moved like it was something she'd had practice at doing.
"Pretty sure I was near all dead right before I blacked out..." Ain wasn't about to lighten her condition for a moment. "Thank you for that if I haven't said so already..." She'd rub her temple like she had the world's worst migraine. She really wanted to down that bottle next to her but...caution was something she was known for. Even if she wasn't in a bar with a complete stranger by herself...and not feeling like maybe she'd not be getting a headache...there was still the fact she didn't trust that dark spirit to come back.
A pained expression crossed her face at the mention of more Greek...myths.. "If he is real...I'm pretty sure from this angle I can get to his heel..." She'd did the only thing her throbbing temples could think to do at the moment, make the best plan it could to survive if that very soul should step through the doors.
If she'd only knew the truth then she probably would have drank the entire bottle of whiskey then and there consequences be damned.
"Where'd you find me exactly?" She'd turn, green eyes meeting ....he....had very unusual eyes...this ...bount was it? Mm. Now her brain was swimming with curiosity and questions on top of pain and anger. Lovely.
As if this night could get any worse.
Oh but worse it got...
Ain blinked once, then again, then again, at the feeling of something very ...no...two somethings very powerful heading for them. Two powerful's she very much recognized. "Oh....I am so very very dead..." She'd say eyes going from Kiku to the door of the bar. The tone wasn't that of a literal sense mind you but of a child who just got caught out at night past curfew.
Ain audibly gulped as those two very powerfuls became visible pas the bar's windows. Welp! The burnt hand reached for that bottle of whiskey, undid the top with one smooth motion of her thumb, brought the bottle to her lips and tilted it back letting the burning liquid past through them and down her throat. If this was her new reality she was most certainly going to need that drink before the who's came through the door.
"I'm just going to go ahead an apologize now..." She'd once again be addressing Kiku like she'd gotten him into a heap of trouble he didn't deserve. She'd take another very large swig and hand the bottle back to it's barkeep just as the hinges to the door announced someone entering.
[attr="class","bsbody"]He’d done the bad thing again, tuning her out while allowing him to walk over to a table, and drag a chair over to them. Gott had taken to listening, making note of everything that the girl was saying. ”11th? Isn’t that the squad the last one was from?” She’d giggled into Kiku’s ear. He took to plopping into the chair next to her, and took off the mask to let it sit in his lap. His pale face looking forward towards the door. His mouth opened for a moment before he released a yawn.
”Tonight has been a cluster fuck. From the invite to this. I’m project name Kindred Kummers, or Kiku for short. I’m a bount, so that’s the reason you can’t actually sense me.” He said with a chuckle. ”Ignore the mask also. If it talks to you, pretend you heard nothing.” He said as the said mask vibrated in his lap, less than pleased about his words. Gott was still upset about the whole being nearly touched by the woman Nyx. ”I found you in the strangest fucking place. In the middle of a garden, with all your injuries you were sleeping peacefully. Given it was likely from the guy named Hypno keeping you asleep. I was sent an invitation with my name on it to the event where I found you after.” He said, also filling in any little detail he might’ve missed.
He was about to say something else before she spoke about being dead, then apologizing. His hand had already slipped his mask back upon his face, his body’s stance having changed. Part of him wondered if he’d locked the door before leaving. Knowing him, he likely forgot. ”You did” ”Fuck” This passed between them as his nostrils began to flare. His senses went on high alert as traces of hollow reiatsu filled his nose, and strong sources at that. ”Fuck everything.
The vizard would shoot his hollow companion a deadpan stare, as empty as the desert of hueco mundo itself, as he made the comment about Ain baking bread for him. A small grin forming mere seconds after, as much as he wanted to, and by all means he did, it was hard to stay angry at the man after a comment like that. A defeated sigh wafted from the baker’s lips as he shook his head.
Pretty sure you don’t want to do that, he chuckled, last time Ain tried to bake I had to get myself an entirely new bakery. The chuckle would grow into a hearty laugh at the expense of his subordinate’s clumsiness. But in his mind the conversation with Theo was still as fresh as ever and, as much as he hated it, he was a man of his word. He had indeed promised to look after flat chest in his stead and that was something he was quite looking forward too, the issue with Ain would complicate things further in the sense that he would have two disciples rather than the one. Perhaps the competition may serve both of them some good, but one thing was for certain. Ain was too weak to let out of his sight again.
I didn’t forget my promise, he continued as he closed the senkaimon behind them, but I will also have to train Ain as well. Sheathing his blade the vizard would scan their surroundings, Naruki was by far a bigger city than Karakura could ever be, in his visits the baker had only come here a handful of times altogether, yet each and every time the city lights and heights never failed to disappoint. Their location this time was some sort of gardens, the residue of Ain’s reiatsu lingered strongly in the area but was fading somewhat quickly .
Until both of them are strong enough to leave on their own, you have my word to stay in Hueco Mundo, he finished, pausing momentarily to see if he wanted to add anything else, barring . . . .extrenuating circumstances. That would be his line and he was sure that the Arrancar would accept that, if only to give him peace of mind. Allowing his reiatsu to spread out over the vast expanse, Caesar would try to hone in on Ain’s reiatsu, this time tapping into his more hollow nature, the scent glands of a natural hunter laying dormant within him rarely failed when it came to stalking prey.
And come through it did as Eac’s senses honed in on a waxing an waning source of reiatsu within their immediate vicinity, Caesar immediately turning in its direction. This way, he would motion to Theocolese to follow him as they would make their way through the gardens and towards what seemed like a late night bar of sorts. From behind its doors the vizard would guess, was someone who’d seen or knew Ain, at least enough to give them some more information as to where she was. Before approaching the door the vizard would move to hide his weapon from view, motioning to Theocolese to do the same.
I don’t need to tell you that this situation is sensitive, he spoke calmly, meaning, whatever’s inside, we don’t draw on anyone unless absolutely necessary. Between him and Theo, both would have the necessary firepower to level the entire city alone, the last thing they needed was unwanted attention, especially since it might cost them Ain, having communicated his point across, the vizard would raise his unhollowfied hand to rap sharply on the door.
He hoped there was someone home, breaking in was not his forte.
Theocelese had snapped a sudden and very much human, terrified look at Caesar at the mentioning of how poorly Ain's baking was. There was a humorous glint in his eyes, suggesting that it was all for show and for play, but....he really did want some damn bread. "I suppose I'll have to go back to my hometown to get something of worth then. Not like I need an airplane or anything these days." There was no way in Hell he would ever go get store-bought loaves or anything baked in some factory...Even the other local bakeries paled in comparison. He'd find a way to weasel out at least a couple pans from the Vizard and from there....Very careful rationing. Maybe. Probably not.
Theocelese never found Naruki City to be anything worth while. He'd come here to knock off mob bosses to keep his human identity insanely rich, muscling them into nothing short of good, upstanding citizens. Careful investments from those stolen funds took care of the rest. He followed Caesar's lead, not keeping his pace behind the Vizard but instead, as always, walked side by side. The conversation would switch back to a more serious note, one that wouldn't have tempers flaring on either end--and that was for the better, as far as Theocelese found himself concerned. "Thank you, my brother. I won't be gone long...a day at most. Maybe two. I plan to end this quickly...and I'm sure Seran will be glad to see you again." Of all the names that could be said or spoken, it was that final one. The last member of The Alliance, to Theocelese knowledge, that existed. From them, maybe they could find others who lurked in the looming shadow of this war with no side or home. And when it was all said and done...it could be like the old days again. Sparring together, drinking together...Hell...maybe Caesar and Theocelese would find themselves changing diapers and having dad nights in due time. All they needed was some girl naive enough to fall for the Vizard's ugly mug.
Once at the door, the Arrancar scratched the top of his head, both hands going behind them to untie the red, silky, fabric, only to re-tie it once again so it fit nice and snug. "Really? You're to knock? What happened to no time to spare..." The mock was more in jest than anything else, but still. REALLY? A knock? As far as anyone knew, the two were....well, not everyone could see them because of the whole being ghosts thing. Theocelese wanted to step in front and just barge in...but the thought of the place being trapped came to his mind. What if the building blew, or there was someone or something inside ready to take shots as soon as the door opened? The notion of this possibility did cause the Arrancar to step forward, and it didn't take much for a glimmer of the old days for Caesar to understand what the Grecian was getting at. There was no hostile force that would meet the Arrancar head on and so much as even threaten the Vizard behind him. Rather than be a stone statue meant to intimidate, Theocelese played the true act off by knocking several more times and sticking his face against opening to try and peer inside.
""Uhhhh Heellloo...Thirsty customers outside....if you can hear us then open up for about fifteen more minutes and I'll pay triple the tab.""
Ain blinked at the mask giggling. Maybe she hit her head harder than she thought....
"Cluster fuck feels very much the appropriate term..." Ain agreed to the....bount...what the hell was a bount. Her mind seemed to be trying to turn out any past memory of hearing that term and just ... well...couldn't....which was really really wired considering that her memory was something she sure as hell knew wasn't a dull skill. Probably something to do with that giant massive ginkgo of a zanpakuto spirit in her brain.
A single brow quirked at the instructions to ignore the mask moving in the bount's lap. Ok....yeah that wasn't ever likely to happen. She'd been told too many stories on how ignoring something that shouldn't be talking, talking, was bad for the person doing the ignoring. She opened her mouth and was about to ask a slew of questions when the information about the where of where she was found was revealed to her.
"You get an invite to a strange party that you think is a trap and you just....go...." She'd say to Kiku like maybe that hadn't been the best of ideas to do. "Not saying I'm not grateful just think maybe you might want to reevaluate your decision making strategies is all..." She'd give a short laugh after that.
"Though I'm not the one to apparently be giving advice on that considering I guess." She'd admit rubing at her temples like maybe the information overload was giving her a headache.
She was relieved that what ever bounts were...they seemed to know trouble when it approached. Or at least she thought Kiku donning the mask back on meant he could sense the two outside the front door.
"Don't worry so much..." Ain said to Kiku and Gott. "They arn't here to chew your asses...pretty sure that'll be reserved for me...." The way she said it well heck even Ain wasn't sure if she was happy to feel the two power houses outside or not.
She thought she'd escaped on hell of shit and here she was jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. Though admittedly...Cae had never ACTUALLY tried to kill her...So maybe she'd actually jumped out of the fire and into the frying pan...The weird thought of she hoped he'd brought something to eat hit her and she shook her head causing herself to become dizzy from the motion. The fuck everything got another chuckle from her. She couldn't say she didn't agree.
"Yeah...that seems..." She was about to agree with the bount again when....the baker knocked. Not bust through the doors and start chewing her out....but knocked. What...the fucking...."Youhavegottobefuckingkiddingme...." Ain near growled out in one breath. If this was another of his fucking mind games....she was going to be pissed...well to be fair she was already pissed.
She'd not literally her way out of hell only to be prodded at mentally by the baker. She was just about to get into that fuck it all mentality herself and sling a few curse words out Cae's way when Theo's face became visible against the glass asking for a drink for a overly fair trade of money.
Green eyes went round in surprise at how comical this arrancar was for how powerful he was. Like he couldn't just slam open the door and take what he wanted from the bar. He looked like a fricken child looking into a candy store. Oh but she knew enough to know he was pretending to be something he wasn't...Another sharp pain in her temple had Ain closing her eyes and craning her neck in attempt to rid herself of the odd painful sensation.
SHe wasn't sure how exactly having a headache was fair of her body to throw at her considering all the other crap that was wrong with it at the moment.
"Yeah yeah..." Ain found her thoughts becoming words as she locked eyes with Theo. "Like you're really here for a drink..." She'd call back at him. "Especially when you and I both know you have a buddy with his own private stash of good booze." Hell she couldn't remember the other vizard's name at the moment but she did remember he had a nice array to pick from.
"Don't tell me all this pomp and circumstance is for me is it?" She'd actually find herself smirking at the Arrancar. "Because...well...I mean kinda over kill to save a little nobody like myself..." She instantly winced at that joke. Ok so she was more refering to a low level shinigami rather than who that crazy shadow lady kept trying to make her out to be but still. "Not to mention...you're a little LATE on the uptake!" She'd say that last part a little louder just to make sure the baker heard.
She wasn't sure how long she'd been gone to be honest. There wasn't exactly a ca lender or hell even a day and night rotation where she'd been. BUT she was sure that the not showing up to work was going to get her into it with the baker...being kidnapped or not.
There was a bit of a ritual with his actions that soon followed. He greatly disliked showing his face in public as such when the knock came upon the door soon after the knock Gott was once upon upon his face. His focus on the door before him as he sat in the midist of the bar with the crippled woman next to him. He had simply ignored her words about his choices, but it wasn’t her place to question those things.
He was readying to release when a few words made their way into the air. ’triple the tab’
He let Ain speak before standing from his chair. His eyes slid down to her, and shrugged some. She was on her own if she wanted to speak with them like that, but however he wanted to make money. Needed to pay for the work he had put into her. ”Kiku….” His apparel gave him in a warning tone. He shrugged it off before coming to the door, and easily opening it. He was still in his dress apparel from the party. He looked to the two before him, and tilted his head. His voice came out soft. ”Welcome to Broken Dreams~ I’ll make note of the triple tab for everything you buy. However, I do hold a policy of no horseplay and no hollow words.” These words slipped out, emphasizing on the hollow bit before turning to head back in.
He made his way past the girl on the floor before scooping up the chair that he’d sat next to her, leaving her the bottle of whiskey for her to suck down. He would’ve glanced back just for a moment to check on her, but he was sure she’d be okay to a degree. His destination which was soon reached as he sat the chair back down infront of the bar, and jumped over the top to land behind it. ”If you can lock the door behind you!”
The look upon the vizard’s face as Theocolese banged upon the door before peering in was one of blank incredulity. As if to simply say ‘are you fucking kidding me right now’, well there went any potential tact and finesse the vizard was trying to employ. In truth it wasn’t all that bad but in his mind the vizard still very much anticipated the worst, they were, after all, in strange territory at the whim of another.
It wasn’t until he heard Ain’s voice that the vizard would immediately relax, entering into the bar without so much as acknowledging the mysterious person, of which oddly had no reiatsu to speak of, that welcomed them in. Marching straight towards the location of Ain’s reiatsu the baker would find his assistant strewn out like one who’d had too many drinks. The vizard wasn’t sure whether to be relieved at her safety or annoyed that she still had the strength to even sass him at this point in time.
As he approached the shinigami the vizard would take her face in one hand, gently craning from one side to the other as if inspecting a personal slave for any defects. Any protest or cutting remarks made by his subordinate would be met with a sharp silence as the vizard made his observations. For the most part any wounds she had had been tended to and she seemed pretty stable, but moving her would not be in their best interests at least for the time being. With a huff the baker would release her from his grip and take a step back before smiling almost grimly.
You’re lucky you’re in that state, he goaded, I was going to cut you to ribbons for making me and my training regimen look bad. Of course it was in jest, but the given how he’d loved to toy with Ain so she would not immediately recognize it as such which added to the fun, in truth this was teh baker’s way of reprimanding his subordinate for getting herself into this situation. With a sigh he’d pull up a chair next to the blonde and gently take her hand in his.
You’re more trouble than you’re worth you know that? next time you make me worry I swear to god i’ll just let you die, he chuckled as he let out another breath. At least she was alive, he’d much rather this as the worst case scenario than anything else.
It was then that the vizard would remember common courtesy, Caesar, he would say turning towards Theo and the reiatsuless one, thet’s Theocolese, a good friend of mine. This little runt over here is my subordinate, he would gesture to the blonde momentarily. You have our thanks for tending to her and rest assured Theocolese will pay you in full for every expense. Before the arrancar could object the vizard would shoot him another look as if to say ’you dragged us into this so of course you’re gonna pay’.
I know she is still recovering, but then can we possibly think about taking her back home with us?
At last they entered. Cae first, unfortunately, but hey if there was a bomb that was about to go off then it was the guy's own fault for not letting someone capable of laughing at an IED step in before anyone else. He followed behind Caesar, letting the Vizard go do what he needed to do to square things away the now no longer missing woman. The comments she made irked him, not enough to get any rise out of his poor temperment, but they bugged him none-the-less. So determined to find the missing piece of the puzzle, the 'nobody' comment cemented his suppositions as to who the blonde was. Funny, how after all Odysseus' exploits and true loyalty to his wife, there were so many he shared a bed with. Once her...or his....or whatever's noggin' got to joggin', Theocelese was going to poke fun at the current form his old friend was reborn into. The mention of Matrium, however, undid whatever jovial mood he was in, and part of him knew the woman hadn't known what happened. He couldn't be mad at her, but he also didn't have the heart to say anything about that particular subject just yet.
While Caesar and Ain were re-united, Theocelese followed the man behind the bar. THAT guy's comment, however, would cost him. "Thank you for taking care of Ain. You have my gratitude for that, and yes, I am a man of my word and you will be compensated greatly for your services." He said this as he approached whatever section held the wine. From there, he browsed the selection to see if...and to his surprise, Theocelese found a good import selection from Greece. He remembered Odysseus was fond of sweet, red wines. Such a bottle was now put on the counter, but he turned back to the rest of the alcohol. "You, sir. I sense nothing from you. I've never met a human that could hide his presence to such an extent. This is intriguing..." The Arrancar mused, picking up another bottle of wine. Another red, but this one far less sweet, and more fitting for his palate. "If it were not for your aid here, I'd ask you to decide which you value more, your hands or your tongue. So for your comment about my...being...I'll be appropriating these particular bottle free of charge, no apologies needed my friend, and I think...Yes. You do have them." Three more bottles of import were taken, one the same type as the first bottle he took, and two more dry, white wines. The latter two were from Crete, and were the same brand Sophia liked. "I think these will do. Now then..." He spoke mostly to himself during this time, though appeared to not care if the owner heard him.
With the wine situation taken care of, Theocelese plucked out a bottle of whiskey and a double-shot glass. He poured a drink, downed it, then repeated the process four more times. "Good stuff, my man. You know quality." The compliment was genuine. The Arrancar withdrew his wallet, and from it he pulled out enough notes to equal to about a thousand in American currency. The wallet disappeared back into his pocket, and with the grace of a cat, he hopped back over the bar counter and snatched the bottle intended for the OdyssiAin.
"We have her now, Caesar. My apologies but I have to get through to the memories in her soul. I cannot delay, the sooner I am able to breach whatever Apollo calls a defense for his realm, the sooner my wife is no longer a prisoner." Theocelese glared at Ain now as he uncorked the bottle of wine and held it out to her. "Drink. Remember home. Remember the years you suffered on the sea, at the whims of Poseidon. And..." Now the little twig that he showed Caesar made another appearance. "Do you remember who you gave this to?"
