The sad truth is, Heuco Mundo was never this quiet. Not since Baraggan Louisenbairn was declared king, and it damn sure wasn't this quiet after the famous Sōsuke Aizen of legend came through and usurped Baraggan. Shit. Wasn't there like a century long gap in between that? In Hueco Mundo a couple of weeks was like a got damn decade, and Tahliah had lived through it all. Hell, she had lived through the day Baraggan was proclaimed king. It was just like tonight ... well how it is everyday in this endless sandy beach. The moon held high overhead and the wind near nonexistent, with a endless sea of white sand that could make someone want to kill themselves just looking at it; the only difference between now and then was that the Hollow community was in an uproar cause the idea of having a king was downright silly. Even so, decade after decade she managed to keep her evolution growing steady, with her chances of living another decade extending just a little longer. And how? It was all about survival of the fittest. The whole Darwin Theory of Evolution, y'know? Ya had to be the strongest with the best set of skills and genes to last a lifetime. Thankfully, Tahliah had adapted and she had learned, and on the rare occasion she even made it a note to team up with a couple of Hollow for a bigger cause. But that shit never lasted long, she was too much of a lone wolf type of gal. Perched up on the top of a rock with sitting on all fours like a curious kitten as she looked down at the endless sea, staring out into its vastness imagining the world beyond this wretched place. She wondered what that looked like. Maybe she'd have friends there. Maybe she wouldn't? Maybe she'd be human again. God. She'd love that. Something tells me that our poor Hollow was in for a treat today and, though she didn't know it, some of her thoughts were going to become a reality.
Hueco Mundo was indeed a god damn quiet place, and if it wasn't for his many watches, clocks and animal themed calenders, Theocelese wouldn't know what god damn day or time it was. It was the biggest thing that irked him, being here, living here, not able to live in the Human World on a nice beach in the middle of the ocean. As much as he was cursed by Apollo's reign of day, there was nothing like a warm, sunny day on the beach. Hueco Mundo did have its positives, though. Apart from the permanent night, he needn't worry about the time of day should things prove dangerous on his end. Unlike the Human World, he also didn't have to worry too much about others bothering him. He could do what he wanted, when he wanted, and no one would stop him. Granted, that didn't involve going a killing spree...sometimes, and only to those deserving of it, but other Hollow would feel his presence and decide to get the hell out of Dodge before they weren't able to do so. Today's project, one of many projects the Arrancar often took up, was one that was less involved in the art of war and more so in the arts of finer things. While traveling in the Human World, he could literally get anything he wanted and as such, decided to get himself a few hundred 10x10 marble statues. He was going to try his hand at making something out of this, obviously it was meant to be nothing but decoration. So for a few hours, Theocelese took one of his pillars, a satchel full of tools and some sketches and started getting to work. Was an odd thing for many an Arrancar to do, but Theocelese wasn't the typical Arrancar and he wasn't exactly one to fit the mold on how most people saw his kind.

Now this is a weird observation, an Arrancar doing a building project? Well, strap a belt on him and call em Bob the Builder. He can fix anything. He was carving the pillar with such finesse that you would've thought he had been doing it since birth, the idea of it all made the Hollow cock her head to the side and raised her nonexistent brow with her tail swishing behind her, giving her the appearance of the famous Sphynx cat. It was strange too, watching him from afar when she finally caught wind of that reiatsu. Her own was already at work simmering down all the while struggling to withstand the force of the former. This was the first time she had actually felt true intimidation. There wasn't a doubt in her mind that if she approached the situation without a careful thoughtful analysis, she would surely be killed. Good thing, Tahliah had evolved past recklessness and learned to never approach a situation without analyzed the situation. Leaping down from her perch, the grey mass moved on all fours towards the pillar, her tail curled up behind her and her body on high alert. Ya never knew what people would do, and in Hueco Mundo you had to be prepared for anything.
The closer she got, the more she began to realize that this guy was giving her that Aizen type of vibe, and that wasn't a compliment either. She understood the delusions of grandeur that these men lived in once they had a little taste of power. Sure there was something intoxicating about knowing that you're a cut above the rest but geez, tone it down a little. Strange thing. There's gotta be something in the water. Tahliah's slender paws dug into sand with her rear extending to the clouds as she stretched one last time as she was finally within a good 15 feet of the stranger. Huh? He looked a lot different up close and personal, not a single Hollow feature as far as the eye could see. Strange thing. Weren't Arrancar supposed to still resemble the kin they once hailed from? Oh well, there was no time to dwell on the question for too much longer as she had probably caught his attention by now ... y'know being a feline stretching in front of him and all.
In his experience and time when it came to dealing with feline, or in this case, feline like creatures, Theocelese knew these types were going to do what they were going to do. That was why when Tahliah come upon a closer proximity in the manner she did, Theocelese paused a moment in his work, then continued chiseling away the marble. The Hollow asked him a very simple question, to which he figured he should have some proper manners and answer. From his breast pocket, Theocelese pulled out a cigarette and a rusted, old looking zippo and lit on up. After a few puffs and clouds of grey-blue smoke, he held up a hand as if he was wondering how to answer. Tahliah's movements were...well, it was easy to say Theocelese looked like he was just about ready to walk on over and give the Hollow a good petting. Affinity for cats, not that he didn't like dogs, its just he admired how independent a cat could be, and how they flaunted such a feat. Sure they loved attention, but on their terms and when they wanted it.
“Stone. Wanted to try my hand at crafting something, get out of that big empty dome for a little while. I'm sure you understand wanting a little peace and quiet.” The Arrancar shot the Adjuchas a grin, the cherry of his smoke lighting up his face as he took another drag. He didn't mean to imply that the Hollow should be going away, though after thinking about it for a moment that was exactly how it came out. “What I mean is, it is nice to come outside and just...not be surrounded by walls. I like to be out in the open with the breeze and the moonlight. There is only so much flourescent lighting one can take before either closing the lights, or leaving home altogether. So, here I am, but what are you doing here? Most would be scared to come this close to me.”

What was this thing humans called paper? A thin material produced by pressing together moist fibres of cellulose pulp derived from wood, rags or grasses, and drying them into flexible sheets. It had several different uses but it's main purposes was for writing, correct? And he was smoking it with a brown stuffing. Truly disturbing. She hadn't retained much information from her time as a Human but her memory recalled that paper was used for writing not for smoking. Something in her social memory bank told her that there was something off about this man; it was kind of like buying a car, and a general assessment tests told her that there was always something wrong with the car now she had to find out what this one's was.
"Peace and quiet is a necessity, a rarity for someone in our respective situations, yes?"
Tahliah paused briefly as the smell of the smoke filled her nostrils, she flared her nostrils that released the second hand smoke from her nose causing her ears to drop down in the process. She hated the way the smoked smelled, even more so than she hated the heavily implications that not only did he want her to go away, but also that he was from Los Noches; her anger probably being more towards the latter. She had only ever so often encountered the former men and women of Los Noches and all of them were the same believing that through evolutions and serving under a Shinigami they were better than their own kin. Time after time she'd seen Hollows being dismissed for trying to associate with Arrancar. They thought them to be scum and Tahliah found them to be an embarrassment to their people.
As the conversation drew on he spoke with such a nostalgia that Tahliah couldn't help but cock her head to the side at the idea that maybe this Arrancar missed his time as a Hollow. This was truly the surprise of the century. In her centuries of existence, and nearly a decade of being an Adjuchas she had learned that many of her evolved kin preferred Aizen's stuffy palace over the sweet calming sands of their homeland. He was truly an oddity among men, his attempt at carrying on a conversation with her only planted the idea deeper into her mind.
"I'm here for the same reason every other Hollow is here, either we stay here, live and hunt each other or we go to the Human world and get hunted there. Personally I prefer the former, wouldn't you? I am not most people, I am an individual, what is it the Humans say? One of a kind." Tahliah spoke calmly at this point. Weird considering that through many of her conversations always ended with a brawl during the second conversation. But she wasn't lying, though. She was quiet the oddity as well among her people as they enjoyed fighting and she enjoyed philosophies. They were mindless and she had a knack for solving complex problems. Her feet planted in the ground she couldn't help but wonder if maybe she and this Arrancar had much more in common that she thought.
Upon the realization the Adjuchas wasn't too fond of the cigarette, Theocelese took one last drag and blew the smoke off behind him. He flicked the butt and the rest of the lit tobacco off in the same direction before moving to sit on the untouched marble. No need to work on anything now that he was in a conversation, doing so would have been rude. He thought over the questions briefly, deciding that like always, he would just speak what was on his mind. “Sometimes peace and quiet are the only things to cure a troubled mind. You and I are lucky, perhaps more so myself, but if I want these things all I need do is take off in any direction I desire. Humans and Shinigami are not as lucky as we, they have laws and rules of society to adhere to. There are so many of them condensed in specific areas. Our world is virtually infinite, and there are pockets of emptiness we may seek out when needed.” As he finished his words, he gave the marble a few pats, as if to suggest Tahliah should come and sit by him. Truth be told, he still wanted to pet the Adjuchas.
“My time as a Hollow, I do not remember very well. Until I became Adjuchas, all I remember is hunger and the need to cause violence. I do know that I did not go to the human world during that time, as a friend of mine prevented me from doing so. Personally, the thrill of the hunt is only as good as the prey you seek. If your prey cannot fight back, or does not prove to be anything resembling a challenge, what is the sport in that? As far as us Hollow are concerned, souls are souls. If we feast upon humans, it is just like opening a can. Simple and easy, but through hunting each other, we can gain knowledge and experience from our battles. There may not always be Shinigami around to protect the humans, but every Hollow will fight to his or her dying breath.”
“I HEAR THE BIRDS ON THE SUMMER BREEZE, I DRIVE FAST, I AM ALONE IN MIDNIGHT. BEEN TRYING HARD NOT TO GET IN TROUBLE, BUT I, I'VE GOT A WAR IN MY MIND. I JUST RIDE, I JUST RIDE, I JUST RIDE, I JUST RIDE. I'M TIRED OF FEELING LIKE I'M FUCKING CRAZY. I'M TIRED OF DRIVING 'TIL I SEE STARS IN MY EYES.

Was that not the truth? Arrancar could run off in any direction without the constant fear of looking over their shoulders. Hollows could do the same but the death by a shinigami's blade would soon come to follow. Humans couldn't run from their problems, no matter what happened they had to abide by their manmade society to get even a taste of the sweet life they so craved. The Shinigami? They were so wound up in purging the world of Hollows and adhering to the rules of the Gotei 13 that running would only make them an enemy of the society they once faithfully served. Tahliah longed for the day that she could become something other than just a beast running into the void pockets of Hueco Mundo while still counting her lucky stars in fear of being swallowed up by its infinite grains of sands. This world wasn't virtually infinite it just seemed that way because they were too dumb to accept the reality that no matter how far they ran, they would be found and they would be killed. Though before Tahliah allowed her face to show her displeasure at the entire concept she trotted over to the marble, eyeing it curiously, before finding her a place beside it and sitting in the typical feline at attention position.
Previous statement ignored by her own accord, or rather her lack of interest in the matter, she cocked her head to the side as he spoke about his time as an Adjuchas. It seemed that the more evolved had been given a wakeup call on the matter of prey, and it seemed the lessers needed a similar memo. As Theocelse finished his statement, Tahliah yawned her ears dropping to the side as she blinked inquisitively.
"It's about survival. While the thrill of the hunt and the prey may be exciting, in this world it's about survival. Sometimes you must devour the lesser and the easy to keep yourself afloat. The longer you survive the more experience you gain, correct? If it's not through battle you learn to hunt, to sneak, to attack when the moment is right and such knowledge can be used when going on par with someone of a larger stature. Each prey is about unsuspecting as the other. Humans don't think you exist and stronger Hollow think you're too scared to attack. I've eaten so many Humans that now attack Hollows is a simple feat and adding in that experience with the experience of attack humans and shinigami respectively, you can become powerful you can evolve ... is that not a theory some Hollow possess?"
So this one was more of a thinker than a wild monster. He was getting the feeling Tahliah was more on the conniving by the feline postures and stances. Most he met with those qualities were evolved in such a way that hunger did not totally dictate their mind. Not all Adjuchas evolved equally, and true to this land of Darwin, Tahliah would prove to probably be one of the most dangerous Hollow if she continued to survive. A part of Theocelese saw this and understood this, and would make sure to the best of his ability she would stay around. The other part was his heart strings being tugged at by, well, the feline nature. If there were two beings who could almost instantly win him over, it were felines and canines. Even monstrous creatures such as Hollow possessing traits and qualities from either or held a power over him no one else could wield. It was a personal weakness still retained from his time as a human, growing up on a farm he named many cats and dogs that called his family's property their home. Theocelese's mind went blank for a moment, and without thinking about it, he raised an arm and gently caressed the Adjuchas on the top of her head before lighting scratching the backside of her ears. It was just a reflex, and he couldn't help it. Honest.
“Everyone has their own theories, though I do agree with you. An individual or army is only as good as the experience it yields from combat, whether that experience is a victory or a loss. Victory means you've predicted the enemy correctly and were able to overcome them in many ways. A Defeat means you underestimated your enemy and your predictions were wrong. You may have won in some areas, but ultimately did not succeed in crushing your opposition. The opposite is true, where you may lose in some areas, you did in fact succeed where the enemy failed.” Theocelese crossed his legs and let them rise so he was sitting bow-legged. His arm retracted from Tahliah and he slouched forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees and allowing his jaw to rest in the palms of his hands. “Everyone can experience different things, though you and I are on the bright side of this coin. We've lived and learned, though I haven't been a Hollow for more than...half a decade or so? When I died, I was strong enough to combat a Shinigami Lieutenant and win. When I became a Hollow, the power gained was enough to be a threat to their Captains. Some of them, not all, though. It is by the gods' will that I was able to grow and be what I am.” He left it at that, and now shifted his eyes over to Tahliah.
“What is your name? People around these parts call me Theocelese. Theo, if you would like.”

Now what in fresh hell was this? As Theocelese unconsciously touched the back of Tahliah's head, she flinched for a second of course before simmering down and allowing him to scratch the backside of her ears. No matter intentional or unintentional, the Hollow couldn't help but admit that she was rather enjoying the sensation of having something, other than her own paws, touch the back of her ears. To an outsider she would appear as a common house cat as she purred ever so slightly, but to the person the action was being performed on, it was much more than that. It was a sign of acceptance. It meant that she trusted the Arrancar enough to allow him a degree of closeness that wasn't acceptable by the standards of her fellow Hollow; even outside of her Hollowkin should a Shinigami or Human reach out to touch her she would already be ready to snap back and devour their flesh as a warning that any further and their life would be nestled within her intestines. She wondered how he managed to stomach touching something that looked like ... well ... her. It was absolutely enthralling to find that someone was bold enough to touch someone that looked like a cross between an alien and a feline. There were times when Tahliah even had a hard time looking at her own reflection in the puddles of water. The idea of Theo's acceptance was engrossing, and it left Tahliah with a confused expression that was complimented by the sheer look of glee, causing her to look downright silly if Theo payed enough attention to her.
"An army is only as good as their weakest link, yes? Even the weak can strive for greatness and can prove to be the most useful pawn as what the weak lacks in strength they make up for in intelligence. That's how I learned to survive. A weak Hollow among the strong, striving to be just as great as the ones I followed behind like a fool. And then I found they were fools, and I alas was not, and that was when I learned victory is not about brute strength but rather how intelligent you are with the ability to weave together each and every possibility and examine these outcomes and determine the more plausible choice of action. I've been a Hollow for quiet sometime, my life as a human is far behind me. I've learned how to survive, how to live."
She paused, her tail swishing behind her as she lied down on her stomach while still looking up at the moon. Had she truly lived? Her life was a common cycle. Wake up, eat, rest, eat, kill some more, eat some more, hide, sleep just to do the same thing the next day. Was she lying to herself? Or was this how she had come to believe what life truly was?
"Once in the Human World I heard a Human quote something. "Beware for I am fearless; therefore I am powerful." Isn't that the truth? The fearless are powerful as they fear nothing, and therefore they can battle anything. This is how we Hollow should be. Fearless and powerful, that is how we would become a threat to the Shinigami. By being fearless enough to face them, and powerful enough to strike fear into them."
She could feel him staring down at her, and like a curious kitten to a ball of yarn she looked up at him with her face still emotionless.
Theocelese couldn't help but to give the Adjuchas some more scratches to her ears. Though he was quiet, he was thinking of the words she spoke and just how different the two were. Theocelese wasn't exactly someone who was gifted in the booksmarts department, but throw him into a scrap and he'd find any means to come out on top. Rather than plan out every single move and prepare for any situation that came from that one move alone, he knew of several "tricks" to get the upperhand someone else. "That is where you and I differ, Tahliah. I'm more of a...meet things head on to get them done. I always had a knack for taking a beating, and if you just didn't tire yourself outright from fighting me, you let me get too close. From either of our standpoints, we could consider one another a weak link. Buuut..." He paused to give her forehead a tap with his index finger. "If you and I were pitted against some Shinigami that posed a threat to us in our combined strength, were we to use your intelligence and my endurance properly, we would surely overcome them.
I do disagree with fearlessness. There is a time and a place for it, but there were many people in history that had that going for them and it put them in the grave. From soldiers bravely taking on enemies better trained and equiped, to slingers of six-shooters with britches too big for them, going around in life with the notion there is nothing to be afraid of is a foolish thing indeed. I'd suggest tapping into at appropriate times, but never living by that motto. I've been there, and it put me away. It's one of the few reasons I'm sitting here beside you as the being I am." The Arrancar let a little grin come across his face as he looked skyward. "Military greatness is just one way to bring fear to the Shinigami, Tahliah. When the enemy thinks you're just a savage monstrosity and you present them with civility, you present with the notion there are others just like you. When there are others just like you, you and them tend to stick together...that alone will make some of them unable to sleep at night. Just how many of us can come together? Five? Ten? A hundred? A thousand? All of the same mindset, and working towards that one goal we all have in common: To drive our blades deep in some Shinigami's gullet." Just as he finished speaking, a loud ringing noise came from his satchel. The Arrancar put up a hand to excuse himself and moved to dig for his phone. With a few muttered curses, Theocelese managed to open the thing up and answer it. The conversation itself consisted of a few words on his end, and when he was finished, he placed the device in his lap.
"Something has come up that requires my attention, Tahliah. I'd love to have another conversation with you again, if you'd feel inclined to as well. I know you did not seem fond of Las Noches, but I can assure you it is not what it once was. It is in need of some work, but it is my home none the less, and I would love to have your company again."
When their conversation finally ended with formal goodbye's and of course, another quick scratch of the ears, Theocelese would head back to his home.
